Vortex Tube 성능 개선을 위한 절두체의 형상 매개변수에 대한 연구 (A PARAMETRIC STUDY OF CONICAL FRUSTUM GEOMETRY FOR IMPROVEMENT OF COOLING PERFORMANCE OF VORTEX TUBE)

  • Vortex tube is a thermal static device that separates compressed air into hot and cold streams. In general, the cooling efficiency of vortex tubes is lower than that of traditional air conditioning equipment and vortex tubes are mainly used for industrial spot cooling applications because of their quick responses. In this study, conical frustums are employed in the nozzle chamber to improve the cooling performance. Conical frustums can be used to decrease the ineffective mass fraction that directly passes through the cold exit without energy separation. The shape optimization of conical frustums has been performed using full factorial design. It is found that the height of frustums has the largest main effects on the cooling performance. Computational results show that the cooling performance can be increased by about 10% within the considered range of the design parameters. This is because the ineffective mass fraction toward the cold exit is decreased by about 20%.

보조변수법과 복소변수를 연동한 설계 민감도 해석 연구 (Adjoint Variable Method Combined with Complex Variable for Structural Design Sensitivity)

  • The adjoint variable method can reduce computation time and save computer resources because it can selectively provide the sensitivity information for the positions that designers wish to measure. However, the adjoint variable method commonly employs exact analytical differentiation with respect to the design variables. It can be cumbersome to precisely differentiate every given type of finite element. This trouble can be overcome only if the numerical differentiation scheme can replace this exact manner of differentiation. But, the numerical differentiation scheme causes of severe inaccuracy due to the perturbation size dilemma. For assuring the accurate sensitivity without any dependency of perturbation size, this paper employs a complex variable that has been mainly used for computational fluid dynamics problems. The adjoint variable method combined with complex variables is applied to obtain the shape and size sensitivity for structural optimization. Numerical examples demonstrate that the proposed method can predict stable sensitivity results and that its accuracy is remarkably superior to traditional sensitivity evaluation methods.

열간압연 공정에서 롤 프로파일 예측모델 향상 (Improvement of Roll Profile Prediction Model in Hot Strip Rolling)

  • In hot strip rolling, the work roll profile is one of the main factors in predicting and correcting the strip profile. Various studies concerning the wear profile and the thermal crown of work roll have been performed, and the results of these studies have shown that the work roll profile must be predicted accurately so as to efficiently control the strip qualities such as thickness, crown, flatness, and camber. Therefore, a precise prediction model of roll profile is called for in a perfect shape control system. In this paper, a genetic algorithm was applied to improve on the roll profile prediction model in hot strip rolling. In this approach, the optimal design problem is formulated on the basis of a numerical model so as to cover the diverse design variables and objective functions. A genetic algorithm was adopted for conducting design iteration for optimization to determine the coefficient of the numerical model for minimization of errors in the result of the calculated value and the measured data. A comparative analysis showed a satisfactory conformity between them.

Engineering of Guangzhou International Finance Centre

  • The Guangzhou International Finance Centre (IFC) is a landmark building that symbolizes the emerging international strength of Guangzhou, China's third largest city. It is also one of the dual iconic towers along the main axis of Guangzhou Zhujiang New Town. Arup adopted a total engineering approach in embracing sustainability and aiming at high efficiency solutions based on performance-based design principles covering structures, building services, fire engineering, vertical transportation, and façade performance to constitute an efficient and cost-effective overall building design. Through dynamic integration of architectural and engineering principles, Guangzhou IFC represents a pioneering supertall building in China. It adopts a diagrid exoskeleton structural form that is clearly expressed through the building's façade and gives the building its distinctive character. The aerodynamic shape of the building not only presents the aesthetic quality of elegant simplicity, but also reduces the effects of wind, thereby reducing the size and weight of the structure. State-of-the-art advanced engineering methods, such as optimization techniques and nonlinear finite element modelling, were applied in parallel with large-scale experimental programs to achieve an efficient and high-performance design taking into account the constructability and cost-effectiveness for a project of this scale.

산업용 볼밸브의 구조 해석 및 토크 저감 설계 (Structure Analysis and Torque Reduction Design of Industrial Ball Valve)

  • Ball valves are used as a key element in the process industries. The industrial development of valves has increased steadily, but continued improvement requires high design reliability and long service life. Currently, the development of high performance valves is not easy because of the lack of relevant technology in Korea. Valves are being imported at a level of up to 58 percent of the domestic market, which represents a value of almost 7 million US dollars. Therefore, in this work, the improvement of the design and performance of industrial valves has been studied in an attempt to achieve valves that will have longer service life and better output during operation. The structural stability was evaluated using the ANSYS FSI (Fluid-Structural Interaction) module. Moreover, to obtain maximum product reliability, torque analysis simulation was performed to compare and experimental results. The simulation results were used to predict the change in torque by changes in shape, thereby reducing the time and cost of manufacturing a number of prototypes for experimental validation.

Al5052-O 판재의 최적 점진성형 연구 (Optimization of Single Point Incremental Forming of Al5052-O Sheet)

  • 점진 판재 성형은 금형을 제작하지 않고 판재를 가공하는 방법으로써 빠른 시제품 제작과 소량 생산에 적합한 성형법이다. 이러한 점진 판재 성형의 공정 변수로 공구 직경, 매 스탭당 z-방향 깊이, 공구 이송속도, 공구 회전 속도 등은 성형품의 품질에 크게 영향을 미친다. 본 연구에서는 Al5052-O(0.8mm) 판재를 사용하여 Varying Wall Angle Conical Frustum 모델의 점진성형을 실시하였으며, 각각의 변수들의 조합에서 성형성을 판단하였다. 다구찌 기법을 사용하여 점진성형 변수들의 조합을 찾아내고, 그레이 관계형 최적화를 통하여 최적 성형 변수 값의 조합을 찾아 내였다. 최종 성형물의 품질은 성형성, 스프링 백, 두께 감소량을 측정하여 판단하였다. 본 연구의 실험 조건에서의 최적의 변수 조합은 공구직경 6 mm, 회전속도 60rpm, 매 스탭당 z-방향 깊이 0.3 mm, 이송속도 500 mm/min으로 판단되었다.

KCS용 벌브형 비대칭 타의 최적화에 대한 수치적 성능 연구 (Numerical Study on Optimization of Bulb Type Twisted Rudder for KCS)

  • Recently, in an effort to reduce the energy efficiency design index (EEDI), studies on energy saving devices (ESDs) have been conducted. In this study, we designed a post-device suitable for a KRISO container ship (KCS) using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). In order to increase the efficiency of the post-device, a twisted rudder was used, which has a proven performance (showing a 1.34% reduction in DHP compared to the bare hull at 24 knots) in previous research at Pusan National University. In addition, an increase in efficiency was expected by the use of a rudder bulb, including the discontinuous section of the twisted rudder and a divergent propeller cap to prevent the contraction of the wake. The optimization criterion was the case where the delivery power was the least compared with the bare hull. We analyzed the cause of the efficiency increase through an analysis of the self-propulsion factor. The case study for optimization was divided into 4 types (1. clearance of the bulb and cap, 2. shape of the bulb, 3. size of the bulb and cap, and 4. asymmetric bulb). Finally, with a clearance of 50 mm from the ship, a spherical bulb with the cap having an angle of $5^{\circ}$, and an asymmetric rudder bulb with a bulb diameter of 1.2HH/1.4H (horizontal/vertical) showed a 2.05% reduction in DHP compared to the bare hull at 24 knots. We will fabricate a post-device that will be optimized in the future and verify the performance of the post-device through model tests.

  • 본 논문에서는 아이소-지오메트릭 해석 방법을 사용하여 응력 제한 조건이 있는 형상 최적설계 문제를 다룬다. 아이소-지오메트릭 해석 방법은 해석에 사용되는 기저 함수와 기하 모델을 구성하는 함수가 일치하여 기하학적으로 정확하기 때문에 설계민감도 해석 및 형상 최적설계에 있어서 강점이 있다. 많은 최적화 문제에서 최대 강성을 확보하는 방향으로 최적화가 진행되고 있는데 이때 응력 조건을 고려하지 않는 경우가 대부분이다. 응력 제한조건이 있는 구조물에서 아이소-지오메트릭 형상 최적설계를 적용시켜 봄으로써 그 효용성을 확인하였다.

냉각탑용 축류팬 형상 정밀도 측정 시스템 (Surface Profile Measuring System for Axial Fan of Cooling Towers)

  • An important component of a cooling tower is an axial fan, and there happens distortion in its shape which brings significant loss of efficiency. In this paper, a surface profile measuring system for large size axial fan of cooling towers is developed. A laser sensor is used as a measuring device and aluminum profiles and stepping motors are engaged into the system as frame structure and driving devices respectively. The measuring data are compared to the design data to compute the distortion of the axial fans. Two types of errors, axial and twist errors, are used to represent the precision of axial fan distortion. Genetic algorithm is used to solve the optimization problem during computing the precision. Results are displayed three dimensionally in a solid-modeler as well as 2-D drawings to help users find it with ease.

카운터샤프트 기어의 스플라인 치형 정밀성형을 위한 열간단조 공정에 관한 연구 (A Study on Hot Precision Forging Processes for Spline Teethof a Counter Shaft Gear)

  • A counter shaft gear is an important part in the transmission system of vehicle. Its shape is relatively complicated and should meets high strength. Traditionally the counter shaft gear has been manufactured as follows; a spline body is firstly machined for teeth and then attached to the main gear body by frictional welding, and finally is finished by grinding. Therefore it is necessary to develop a new manufacturing technology eliminating both frictional welding and grinding processes. In this study, a new hot forging process was proposed and designed so that the spline body with teeth and main gear body are formed as one body. Finite element simulations and experimental works were peformed for design of forging processes to get the quality final precision-forged product. Consequently the most suitable blocker process could be obtained.
