  • In the multi-pass shape drawing process, the appropriate process design is very important to produce sound products. The reduction ratio, die angle, and the intermediate die shape are very important process variable of the multi-pass shape drawing. The aim of this study is the determination of the reduction ratio, die angle, and the intermediate die shape of the 2 pass shape drawing process for producing steering spline shaft. In this study, FE analysis, Taguchi method, and ANN(artificial neural network) were applied to determine the appropriate reduction ratio, die angle, and intermediate die shape. After the determination of the process variables, FE analysis and drawing experiment were performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the determined process variables. The dimensional accuracy of the final drawn spline shaft was evaluated by using 3D surface profiler and 3D laser digitizing system.

  • In this paper, a study on the development of expert system for Al matrix composite with shape memory alloy fiber is performed to evaluate termomechanical behavior and mechanical properties. Expert system is very useful computer-based analysis system designed to make analysis technique and knowledge conveniently available to a lot of fabricable condition. In the developed system, it is possible to predict termomechanical behavior and mechanical properties for other composite with shape memory alloy fiber. The smartness of the shape memory alloy is given due to the shape memory effect of the TiNi fiber which generates compressive residual stress in the matrix material when heated after being prestrained. For finite element analysis, an analytical model is assumed two dimensional axisymmetric model compared of one fiber and the matrix. To evaluate the strength of composite using FEM, the concept of smart composite was simulated on computer Thus, in this paper, the FEA was carried out at two critical temperature conditions; room temperature and high temperature(363k). The finite element analysis result was compared with the test result for the analysis validity.

  • This study is to help make-up and coordination for image-making after analysis of facial color and shape of elderly women. The data was analyzed 55-75 years old 212 elderly women's face color and pictures by means of SPSS 12.0 statistics package. On the basis of the colorimetric data on face by Minolta CM2500D, this research considered the analysis of facial color, patternization of facial color and its analysis by age group; for the analysis of facial shape, this research patternized facial shape and analyzed its characteristic using both contour-based facial shape analysis and Kamata facial shape analysis. As for facial color, it was found that the lower age bracket has bright and reddish face, looking fine, while the higher age bracket has a conspicuously yellowish face, looking bad. The community of facial color is classified as 3 types and it was found out that the facial color of the subjects belonging to Type 3, whose L value is the largest, looked the brightest; the face of the subjects belonging to Type 2, whose a value is the largest, was much tinged with red, and the face of the subjects belonging to Type 1, whose b value is the largest were tinged with yellow. According to the analysis of facial shape, there appeared oval & long forms in the classification by contour, while there appeared a lot of downward-directed power and inner-directed power in the classification by Kamata, which is believed to reflect the phenomenon that their chin line becomes roundish and the facial length also tend to be longer due to aging.

  • Clothing shape is principally described in seven factors that are composed of clothing design, clothing material, clothing size, pattern design, sewing method and body motion etc.. The aims of this study was to measurement out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with somato type by using the image processing. The subjects for direct anthropometric measurements were 248 female college students aged from 19 to 22. The data were statistically analyzed by principal analysis and cluster analysis. The results were obtained three somato type. Also I made skirts in order to analyzed to the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body. The effect of somato type on the shape of flare skirts was determined by the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body. The out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body was observed between the node number and amplitudes of clothing wave form and node number was determined at the maxim of space-shape amplitude, and the space-shape amplitudes have related with aspect ratio of cross-sectional shape. Results for flare skirts show changes in amplitude and mean with fabrics, somato type. therefore gray-level histogram are correlated with changes out-line space-shape, differences in drape spacing and related fabric properties and their somato type. • The cross sectional shape of intermediate die is one of important parameters to improve dimensional accuracy of final product in shaped drawing process. Until now, it has been designed by the experience or trial and error of the expert. In this study, the cross sectional shape of intermediate die for spline shape is determined by the electric fields analysis and scale factor method. The result of the electric fields analysis and scale factor method have been compared with that of the expert method. The effects of cross sectional shape on the dimensional accuracy were investigated by using FE-simulation. And then the multi-stage shaped drawing experiments were performed to verify the results of FE-simulation. As a result, the cross sectional shape from the electric fields analysis and scale factor method had the good dimensional accuracy. These two methods can be used for the method to obtain the cross sectional shape of intermediate die in shaped drawing process.

  • This paper explores a fundamental study of acquiring the users' KANSEI information regarding the recognition of shape models. Since there are many differences such as background differences and knowledge differences among users, they will produce different evaluations based on their KANSEI even when an identical shape model is presented. Cluster analysis is proved to be available for catching a group tendency and for constructing a mapping relation between a description of the shape model and the HANSEl database. In order to investigate an analogical relation and a mutual influence in our consciousness, first, we made a questionnaire that asked subjects to represent images having different colors and shape cones by using 4 pairs of adjectives (KANSEI words). Next, based on the cluster analysis of the questionnaire using a fuzzy set theory, we proposed a hypothesis showing how the analogical relation and the mutual influence work in our mind while viewing the shape models. Furthermore, how the properties of KANSEI depend on their descriptions was also investigated by virtue of the cluster analysis. This work will be valuable to construct a personal KANSEI database regarding the Shape Model Processing System.

  • The reliability of the data means the overall consistency of the measurement results. Methods for evaluating reliability have been continuously studied because it affects the results of the statistical analysis. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient or intraclass correlation coefficient is used for reliability evaluation; however, these measures cannot be applied to data consisting of three-dimensional coordinates to represent an object. In this study, we propose a measure to evaluate the reliability of three dimensional shapes based on statistical shape analysis that is made possible by extracting the shape information from the measured three dimensional coordinates and decomposing the shape variation.

  • To classify the bodytype at sight of front line of the body, 20 to 59 year-old 484 females were examined. 73 photographic and 16 anthropometric measurements were taken to each subject. The indices were used to obtain the shape factor of the bodytype. The principal component analysis was performed to obtain the shape factor of the front line of body and 6 factors were abstracted. The factor score was better than the measurements as the independent variable in applying the cluster analysis to classify the shape. As the result of the cluster analysis, the shape of the body at sight of the front line was classified in 4 types. It was named X, Y, A, H type. Considering the sizes, Y type was obese and H type was lean characteristically.

  • The mechanical behavior of a granular material is governed by the applying effective stresses and its skeletal structure which is considered to be the packing of particles giving overall density and degree of anisotropic. Factors that affect soil packing are the particle size, size distribution and shape, and the arrangement of grain contact. Soil particle size and shape are the most important factor, but difficult to quantify. In this study, 2D Fourier analysis is applied to quantify the shape of granular particles. Jumunjin sand was used in the experiment and particle images are captured using an optical microscope. The results showed that three lower order Fourier descriptor are closely related with roundness, sphericity of the granular particle. Also statistical approach is used to determine roundness, form factor, elongation ratio, roughness of Jumunjin sand.

  • In this study, the flow control system with shape memory alloy in jet engine inlet was suggested to adjust the shock boundary layer interact~on for supersonic flight system. It consisted of the flap with shape memory alloy, spar with steel, and fixing device with aluminum alloy. The advantages of itself are a simple configuration, a passive air circulation by using the flap deflection due to pressure difference, and no need to be required the auxiliary devices. Finite element analysis was conducted to predict the thenno-mechanical behavlor of the flap system with shape memory alloy. The user-defined subroutine UMAT was implemented with ABAQUS to accon~modate the thermo-mechanical constitutive relation of shape memory alloy.
