외모의 사회문화적 태도와 신체비만도가 신체이미지와 신체만족도에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of the Sociocultural Attitudes toward Appearance and BMI on Body Image and Body Satisfaction)

  • This study was designed to find out how the sociocultural attitudes toward appearance, BMI(Body Mass Index) of adult women affect their body image and body satisfaction. A questionnaire was prepared in the survey and a total of 456 adult women were selected by way of stratified random sampling. The research findings are as follows. The sociocultural attitudes toward appearance were shown in two factors of 'internalization' and 'recognition' The body image was shown in three dimensions of 'care for appearance,' 'concern about weight,' and 'appearance attractiveness'. Internalization, recognition, and BMI affected care for appearance. Concern about weight was affected by internalization, and BMI. Appearance attractiveness was affected only by BMI. Most people were not satisfied with their weight and overall body shape in spite that they in fact had normal or lean figures except 3.3% of the total samples. From the above research findings, adult women's satisfaction with their body was shown high when they were subjectively satisfied with their appearance attractiveness. And the results indicate that adult women are under pressure of socioculturally distorted image of beauty.

과체중과 비만소비자의 건강기능성 식품 소비 행동 결정요인 연구 (Healthy Functional Food Consumption for Overweight and Obese Koreans)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the influencing factors of consumption behavior of healthy functional foods including vitamin/mineral products for overweight and obese Koreans. Overweight and obese Koreans were selected based on the body mass index(BMI) from the KNHANES that was collected in 2007. Probit estimation model was used to find the influencing factors such as age, gender, job, education, income, nutrition education, and cultural capital(parents' education) on consuming the healthy functional foods. Overweight consumers were found to consume vitamin/mineral products and healthy functional foods at 17.5% and 22.7%, respectively. Obese consumers were found to consume vitamin/mineral products and healthy functional foods at 18.2% and 22.8%, respectively. In addition, self decision was found to be a significant factor to consume both products in both groups. Nutritional education and job were significant factors to consume vitamin/mineral products in overweight consumers, while mother's education and job(service) were significant factors in obese consumers. Weight control for body shape, gender, age, and income were significant factors to consume healthy functional foods in overweight consumers, while nutrition label and perceived health status were significant for obese consumers. Therefore, providing consumer information on functional foods might be useful for consumers to consider the healthy functional foods as an available option to purchase. Various influencing factors between two groups might be concerned to develop different strategies for promoting the healthy functional foods consumption including vitamin/mineral products.

Nondestructive damage evaluation of a curved thin beam

  • A vibration-based nondestructive damage evaluation technique for a curved thin beam is introduced. The proposed method is capable of detecting, locating, and sizing structural damage simultaneously by using a few of the lower natural frequencies and their corresponding mode shapes before and after a small damage event. The proposed approach utilizes modal flexibilities reconstructed from measured modal parameters. A rigorous system of equations governing damage and curvature of modal flexibility is derived in the context of elasticity. To solve the resulting system of governing equations, an efficient pseudo-inverse technique is introduced. The direct inspection of the resulting solutions provides the location and severity of damage in a curved thin beam. This study confirms that there is a strong linear relationship between the curvature of modal flexibility and flexural damage in the selected class of structures. Several numerical case studies are provided to justify the performance of the proposed approach. The proposed method introduces a way to avoid the singularity and mode selection problems from earlier attempts.

  • SIME(SIngle Machine Equivalent) method has been recognized as a useful tool to determine transient stability of power systems. In this paper, SIME method is used to develop the KEPCO transient stability assessment (TSA) tool. A new screening algorithm that can be implemented in SIME method is proposed. The salient feature of the proposed screening algorithm is as follows. First, critical generators are identified by a new index in the early stage of the time domain simulation. Thus, computational time required to find OMIB(One Machine Infinite Bus) can be reduced significantly. Second, clustering critical machines can be performed even in very stable cases. It enables to be avoid extra calculation of time trajectory that is needed in SIME for classifying the stable cases. Finally, using power-angle trajectory and subdividing contingency classification have improved the screening capability. This algorithm is applied to the fast TSA of the KEPCO system.

New Target Transfer Functions with No Overshoot

  • To design a controller based on the pole placement method, it is necessary to obtain either a target transfer function or a desired characteristic equation which results in the closed-loop response. Specially, a step response in which no overshoot occurs in highly desirable in many applications. In this paper, we present two new present two new prototypes of Type I target transfer functions whose step responses have an overshoot of less than 0.1%. One prototype is obtained by Taylor's approximation of a Gaussian function. It is, however, observed that the response delays increase with increasing order, while the rise times are nearly constant. The other prototype is a modification of the first prototype, so that their transfer function coefficients have particular values in terms of specific parameters ${\gamma}$i and $\tau$ (see section 2). The second prototype gives very useful properties in which step responses are almost the same shape, irrespective of the order. It, also, has no overshoot. Some other properties of the prototypes and an application example are given.

반원형 단면을 갖는 광도파로의 고유모우드의 벡터해 (Vectorial Solutions of the Eigenmodes of the Waveguide with Semicircular Cross-Section)

  • 도파로의 전자기장을 Bessel함수와 삼각함수로 급수전개하고 코어와 클래드간의 경계면에서 유한한 갯수의 점들을 선택하여 각 점에 전자기장의 경계조건을 적용함으로서 반원형 단면을 갖는 광도파로의 벡터해를 구하였다. 그리고 각 고유모우드들의 전파상수와 에너지 분포를 구하여 그 특성을 토의하였다. -H가 E로 바꾸어지는 것을 제외하고는 odd인 모우드와 거의 같았으며, 코어와 클래드의 굴절률 비가 1로 접근함에 따라서 even과 odd 모우드는 서로 축최됨을 볼 수 있었다.

Circumferential Alignment of Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells in a Cylindrical Microchannel

  • We report the circumferential alignment of human aortic smooth muscle cells (HASMCs) in an orthogonally micropatterned circular microfluidic channel to form an in vivo-like smooth muscle cell layer. To realize a biomimetic smooth muscle cell layer which is aligned perpendicular to the axis of blood vessel, we first fabricated a half-circular polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microchannel by soft lithography using a convex PDMS mold. The orthogonally micro wrinkle patterns were generated inside the half-circular microchannel by stretching-releasing operation under UV irradiation. Upon UV treatment with uniaxial 40 % stretch of a PDMS substrate and releasing process, the microwrinkle patterns perpendicular to the axial direction of the circular microchannel were generated, which could guide the circumferential alignment of HASMCs successfully during cultivation. The analysis of orientation angle, shape index, and contractile protein marker expression indicates that the cultured HASMCs revealed the in vivo-like cell phenotype. Finally, we produced circular microchannels by bonding two half-circular microchannels, and cultured the HASMCs circumferentially with high alignment and viability for 5 days. These results are the first demonstration for constructing an in vivo-like 3D smooth muscle cell layer in the circular microfluidic channel which can provide novel bioassay platforms for in-depth study of HASMC biology and vascular function.

Bending and free vibration analysis of functionally graded beams on elastic foundations with analytical validation

  • The novelty of this paper is the use of a simple higher order shear and normal deformation theory for bending and free vibration analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) beams on two-parameter elastic foundation. To this aim, a new shear strain shape function is considered. Moreover, the proposed theory considers a novel displacement field which includes undetermined integral terms and contains fewer unknowns with taking into account the effects of both transverse shear and thickness stretching. Different patterns of porosity distributions (including even and uneven distribution patterns, and the logarithmic-uneven pattern) are considered. In addition, the effect of different micromechanical models on the bending and free vibration response of these beams is studied. Various micromechanical models are used to evaluate the mechanical characteristics of the FG beams for which properties vary continuously across the thickness according to a simple power law. Hamilton's principle is used to derive the governing equations of motion. Navier type analytical solutions are obtained for the bending and vibration problems. Numerical results are obtained to investigate the effects of power-law index, length-to-thickness ratio, foundation parameter, the volume fraction of porosity and micromechanical models on the displacements, stresses, and frequencies.

Al-Zn-Mg-Cu계 알루미늄 합금의 열간 균열 특성에 미치는 합금조성의 영향 (The Influence of Alloy Composition on the Hot Tear Susceptibility of the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu Alloy System)

  • Hot tearing was the most significant casting defect when the castability evaluation of the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy system was conducted. It was related to the solidification range of the alloy. Therefore, the hot tear susceptibility of the AA7075 alloy, whose solidification range is the widest, was evaluated. The hot tear susceptibility was evaluated by using a mold for a hot tearing test designed to create the condition for the occurrence of hot tear in 8 steps. According to the tearing location and shape, a hot tear susceptibility index (HTS) score was measured. The solidification range of each alloy and hot tear susceptibility was compared and thereafter the microstructure of a near tear defect was observed. As a result, the HTS of the AA7075 alloy was found to be 67. Also, the HTS in relation to a change in Zn, Mg, Cu composition showed a difference of about 6-11% compared to the AA7075 alloy.

청감적 소음 감소를 위한 능동소음제어기 설계 (A Design Method of The Active Noise Controllers for The Perceived Noise Reduction)

  • 본 논문에서는 능동 소음 제어기(Active Noise Controller)의 잔류 소음을 청감적으로 감소시키는 설계법을 제안하였다. 이를 위한 구조로는 FELMS(Filtered-E Least Mean Squares) 알고리즘과 소음 평가 지수인 NC(noise criteria)를 사용하였으며, 능동 소음 제어기의 유효 동작 주파수 대역 내에서 NC 지수를 최소화하는 FELMS에 내장된 노이즈 쉐이핑 필터의 스펙트럼 조건식을 도출하였다. 제안한 조건을 만족하는 필터가 기존에 사용되었던 심리음향 기반의 필터보다 더 향상된 NC값을 나타내는 것을 시뮬레이션을 통해 확인하였다.
