  • In this Paper, the mechanical behavior of two reかangular plates spot-welded under free vibration is investigated in detail. The focus of the analysis is to evaluate the effect of thickness of reinforced plates with equivalent thickness. The results of this the investigation are compared with detailed finite element analysis end experiments of the plates spot-welded for various parameters, such as aspect ratio, arm ratio, and distance ratio of spot-welding Points. The conclusion obtained are as followed. 1. The effect thickness due to spot-weld is very large, such as 55% in comparison with area ratio of spot-welding joint is just 4.52%. 2 The effect of thickness with respect to the distance ratio is maximized when the distance ratio is 0.4.

  • Leidenfrost drops with ellipsoidal shaping can control the bouncing height by adjusting the aspect ratio(AR) of the shape at the moment of impact. In this work, we focus on the effect of the AR and the impact Weber number(We) on the non-axisymmetrical spreading dynamics of the drop, which plays an important role in the control of bouncing. To understand the impact dynamics, the numerical simulation is conducted for the ellipsoidal drop impact upon the perfect non-wetting solid surface by using volume of fluid method, which shows the characteristics of the spreading behavior in each principal axis. As the AR increases, the drop has a high degree of the alignment into one principal axis, which leads to the consequent suppression of bouncing height with shape oscillation. As the We increases, the maximum spreading diameters in the principal axes both increase whereas the contact time on the solid surface rarely depends on the impact velocity at the same AR. The comprehensive understanding of the ellipsoidal drop impact upon non-wetting surface will provide the way to control of drop deposition in applications, such as surface cleaning and spray cooling.

  • In this paper an energy method is presented for the linear buckling analysis of first order shear deformable plates. The displacement fields are defined in terms of the shape functions, which correspond to a set of predefined points and are composed of significantly high order polynomials. The locations of these points are found by mapping the geometry using the naturalized coordinates and bilinear shape functions. In order to evaluate the method, fully clamped and simply supported rectangular plates subjected to uniform uniaxial compressive loading on two opposite edges of the plate are investigated thoroughly and the results are compared with the exact solution given in the monograph of Timoshenko and Gere (1961). The method is extended to the analysis of perforated plates, wherein the negative stiffness computed over the opening area from in-plane and out-of-plane deformation modes is superimposed to the stiffness of the full plate. Numerical results are then favorably compared with those obtained by finite element methods. Other cases such as; rectangular plates with eccentrically located openings of different shapes are studied and reported in this paper with regards to the effect of aspect ratio, hole size, and hole position on the buckling. For a square plate with a large circular opening at the center, diameter being 80 percent of the length, the present method yields buckling coefficient 12.5 percent higher than the one from the FEM.

  • In the machining process of micros shape by using high-precision machining system and micro end-mill, it is important for machining characters of tools to be grasped in order to stably use tools of micro end-mill. In this study. we carried out an analytical experiment of basic machining features by using end-mill tools for the purpose of damage prevention and manufacture of high quality when the tools of micro end-mill are used. This experiment used a micro machining system with high precision and a variety of end-mill tools commercialized from tens to hundreds microns in diameter. To establish an optimal machining condition without tool damage, cutting force was analyzed according to the changes of tool diameter and cutting conditions such as cutting speed. feed rate, depth of cut. And an examination was performed for the shape and surface illumination of machining surface according to the changes of machining conditions. Based on these micro machining conditions, micro square pillar, cylinder shaft. thin wall with high aspect ratio, and micro 3-D structures such as micro gear and fan were manufactured.

  • Four different hydroxyapatites (HAP) were prepared by a solvothermal method under different pHs and solvent species. The synthesized hydroxyapatites were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Four HAPs exhibited similar XRD patterns regardless of synthetic conditions. However, the morphology of hydroxyapatites was dependent of pH and solvent species under synthetic condition. The HAP prepared in pH 12 showed an elongated shape along the [001] direction compared to that prepared in pH 8. Also, the morphology of the HAPs synthesized in the presence of methanol and ethanol exhibited the more elongated hexagonal rod shape along the [001] direction with the high aspect ratio.

  • Fatigue behavior of before-and-after penetration was examined experimentally using surface pre-cracked specimens of aluminium alloy 5083-0. The fatigue crack shape before penetration is almost semicircular, and the measured aspect ratio is larger than the value obtained by calculation using K values proposed by Newman-Raju. It is found that the crack growth behavior on the back side after penetration is unique and can be divided into three stages. By using a crack propagation rule in case of long surface crack, the change in crack shape after penetration can be evaluated quantitatively.

  • In this study, relevant to impact extrusion process of the rectangular batter case for electric vehicles, numerical and experimental analyses were conducted to reduce the earring defects induced in the unevenness of metal flow. Since the earring is caused by the non-uniform metal flow induced in the friction and aspect ratio in the bottom section. As a way to reduce the earring, variable land die concept was applied. In order to analyze numerically the complex metal flow by using commercial finite element package, DEFORM 3D, impact extrusion process was simplified in upsetting mode at bottom section and extrusion mode at land section. The impact extrusion experiments were conducted to verify the assessment of process parameter for impact extrusion. As results, variable land die which has longer longitudinal section makes reduce earring defects. In addition, it was confirmed that the effect that slug shape like dog-bone also can reduce the earring. This study is expected to be able to present the useful design guidelines for manufacturing the battery case.

  • The characteristics and morphology of precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) particles produced by carbonation process with various experimental conditions are investigated in this study. The crystal structures of PCC formed by carbonation process are calcite and aragonite. The crystal structure of PCC particles synthesized without adipic acid additive is calcite only, regardless of the reaction temperature. Needle-like shape aragonite phase started to form at reactor temperature of 80℃ with the adipic acid additive. Particle size of the single phase calcite PCC synthesized without adipic acid additive is about 1 ~ 3 ㎛, with homogenous distribution. The aragonite PCC also shows uniform size distribution. The reaction temperature and concentration of adipic acid additive do not show any significant effects on the particle size distribution. Aragonite phase grown to a large aspect ratio of needle-like shape showed relatively improved whiteness. The measured whiteness value of single calcite phase is about 95.95, while that of the mixture of calcite and aragonite is about 99.11.

  • A two-dimensional shallow-water flow around a cavity driven by a sinusoidally oscillating external flow was studied numerically. A container model of "T" shape was constructed in the numerical computation for comparison with the experimental observation. The numerical computation shows that the aspect ratio of the cavity is not much affecting the overall flow pattern, and for the aspect ratio 2, the deep region of the cavity has a stagnant flow motion. At larger Reynolds number, the flow field is characterized by many small vortices which are not present in the flow visualization. The flow pattern in the external region is in good agreement with the experimentally recorded particle trajectories. It turns out that two large coherent vortices situated in the exterior region of the cavity are responsible for clockwise and counterclockwise drift motions, in large scale, of particles.particles.

  • AAO template having nano scale pores of high aspect ratio has been prepared through anodizing of aluminum foil in sulfuric acid electrolyte. The effect of anodizing parameters on the pore size and distribution was also examined to obtain the proper AAO as a template material of nanowire. The surface of AAO template prepared was observed by SEM to examine the mean size and distribution of pores generated by the anodizing and Fe nanowires obtained by AC electroforming using AAO template were also observed with TEM to determine the length and shape of them. From the results of work, it was found that the mean size or distribution of pores was influenced significantly by the anodizing parameters such as voltage and temperature of electrolyte. Mean length and aspect ratio of Fe nanowires prepared in the work were found to be $10{\mu}m\;and\;300\;to\;1,000$, respectively.
