  • A wireless magnetic torque sensor is utilized to measure the torque generated in the rotating shaft in magnetic field without connecting to the shaft by any wire. In this study, a new wireless magnetic torque sensor was introduced. The structure of the sensor was explained detailed as well as its operation principle. Resulting from the torque measurement experiment results, the sensor was proven to measure the generated torque effectively. Compared with traditional contact torque sensor, the wireless one has low cost and good environment adaptation ability. Moreover, the intractable wrapping wires around the shaft are removed in this design. Hence the wireless torque sensor may be expected as a possible sensing device for many applications, such as the electric assisting rotation system in automobiles, the torque sensing system in motors, the arm rotation system in robotics and so on.

  • In designing AMBs (active magnetic bearings) for high-speed spindle system, the shaft is usually assumed as a rigid rotor. For automatic tool change process, there should be a tool clamping system with drawbar using spring or hydraulic force, and the drawbar in the spindle can be in various condition of support during design and manufacturing error. In this paper, the modal characteristics of drawbar in high-speed milling spindle system due to supporting stiffness between drawbar and shaft are analyzed by numerical method. The result shows enough stiff supports must be provided between shaft and drawbar to prevent occurring drawbar vibration lower than the natural frequency of 1$\^$st/ bending mode of spindle.

  • This study suggests a new type shaft generator driven by hydraulic power suitable for small size vessels. Since the shaft generator system is very easy to be affected by disturbances such as speed variation of the main engine and the load variation of the generator, a robust servo control must be performed to obtain stable electric power with constant frequency. So, in this study the robust servo control method is adopted to the controller design. Dynamic characteristics on the frequency variations of the electric power output according to the disturbances are investigated by computer simulations. From the considerations of the computer simulation results, it is ascertained that the shaft generator system proposed in this study had good control performances.

  • This paper presents a study on the analytical prediction of vibration transmission from helical gears to the bearing. The proposed method is based on the application of the three dimensional helical gear behaviors and complete description of shaft by the spectral method. Helical gear system used in this paper consists of the driving element, helical gears, shafts, bearings, couplings and load element. In order to describe all translation and rotation motion of helical gears twelve degree of freedom equations of motion by the transmission error excitation are derived. Using these equations, transfer matrix for the helical gear is derived. For the detail behavior of shaft motion, the $12{\times}12$ transfer matrix for the shaft is derived. Transfer matrix for the bearing, coupling, driving element, and load is also derived. Application of the boundary conditions in the assembled transfer matrix produces the forces and displacements in each element of the helical gear system. The effect of the proposed method is shown by numerical example.

  • A computer program was developed for the analysis of the coupled transverse vibrations of a multi-supported shaft system. The program, based on the theory of Transfer Matrix Method, was written including the system parameters such as the entrained water and gyroscopic effects of the propeller, the rigidity of bearing combined with the oil film effect, and the whirling frequency of the shaft. The program was used to calculate the resonance frequency of the shafting system of the ship Hanbada. The results show good agreement with the measured values. The results are also compared with those of F.E.M. from the comparison, it is found that both results agree well with each other.

  • An immune system has powerful abilities such as memory recognition and learning how to respond to invading antigens, and has been applied to many engineering algorithms in recent year. In this paper, the combined optimization algorithm (Immune-Genetic Algorithm: IGA) is proposed for multi-optimization problems by introduction the capability of the immune system that controls the proliferation of clones to the genetic algorithm. The new combined algorithm is applied to minimize the total weight of the rotor shaft and the transmitted forces at the bearings in order to demonstrate the merit of the combined algorithm. The inner diameter of the shaft and the bearing stiffness are chosen as the design variables. the results show that the combined algorithm can reduce both the weight of the shaft and the transmitted forces at the bearing with dynamic constraints.

  • In this paper. the dynamic characteristics of a super high-speed tilting-pad air bearing(TPGB) used in a turbo expander with high expansion ratio are analyzed. The dynamic behavior and stability of a rotary system supported by two journal air bearings are investigated numerically. The transient response of the shaft is obtained by simultaneously solving the equation of motion of the shaft and the dynamic Reynolds equation. The stiffness and damping coefficients of the bearing are calculated from the loading coefficients of the bearing are calculated from the loading capacity. shaft velocity and displacement by using a curve fitting method. The natural frequencies of the 1st and 2nd rigid modes can be calculated from these coefficients. The theoretical method of a rigid rotor system is verified by experimentsut.

  • In order to enhance high speed stability the composite air spindle system composed of a high modulus carbon fiber composite shaft, powder contained epoxy composite squirrel cage rotor and aluminum tool holder was designed and manufactured. For the optimal design of the composite air spindle system, the stacking sequence and thickness of the composite shaft were selected by considering the fundamental natural frequency and deformation of the system. The analysis gave results that the composite air spindle system had 36% higher natural frequency relative to a conventional air spindle system. The dynamic characteristics of the composite spindle system were compared with those of a conventional steel air spindle system. From the calculated and test results, it was concluded that the composite shaft and the power contained composite rotor were able to enhance the dynamic characteristics of the spindle system effectively due to the low inertia and high speific stiffness of the composite materials.

  • In August 2002, side wall of OO tunnel, at the Bonghwa, Kungbuk province, Korea, was collapsed by abruptly applied heavy soil and water pressure to side wall from a inclined shaft when there was a heavy rain. These days, Inclined shaft is used for the purpose of reducing construction time, using ventilation system, using the out of carrying equipment and mucking when we construct tunnel in the world. Recently constructed tunnel has the source of inclined shafts, but the more time elapse, we lose the source of the inclined shaft such as exact position, condition, and the fact that whether inclined shaft is exist or not. Therefore, this study inspected the interior's appearance, analyzed structure to evaluate the reason of collapsing side wall and this study also performed the repairing work. Finally, we show improving maintenance method to prevent that similar accident that might be happened.

  • In this paper, a systematic design approach for a three shaft hydromechanical transmission(HMT) system is proposed by considering the power characteristics and speed ratio range. Using network analysis, possible configurations of the 3 shaft HMT are analyzed and it is found that the influence of HSU stroke on the power distribution of the HMT can be investigated by the network analysis. In addition, design methods are presented from the viewpoint of (1) power distribution and (2) speed ratio range. From the power distribution and the speed ratio range, a HMT configuration can be constructed, which minimizes the power circulation and provides the desired speed ranges. Based on the 3 shaft HMT analyses and the proposed design approach, a 3 shaft HMT is designed which provides 4 speeds in forward and 1 speed in reverse while keeping the power circulation less than 150% of the input power. It is expected that the design method suggested in this study can be used in a systematic design of the 3 shaft HMT.
