In order to provide real-time data from sensors and instruments at manufacturing processes on web, we proposed a communication service model based on XML(eXtensible Markup Language). HTML(Hyper Text Markup Language) is inadequate for describing real-time data from manufacturing plants while it is suitable for display of non-real-time multimedia data on web. For applying XML-based web service of process data in Intranet environment, real-time performance of communication services was evaluated to provide the system design criteria. XML schema for the data presentation was proposed and its communication performance was evaluated by simulation in terms of transmission delay due to increased message length and processing delay for transformation of raw data into defined format. For transformation of raw data into XML format, we proposed two structures: one is the scheme where transformation is done at an SCC(Supervisory Control Computer) after receiving real-time data from instruments. the other is the scheme where transformation is carried out at instruments before the data are transmitted to the SCC. Performances of two structures were evaluated on a testbed under various conditions such as six packet sizes and offered loads of 20%, 50% and 80%, respectively. Test results show that proposed schemes are applicable to the systems in Ethernet 100BaseT network if total message traffic is less than 7 Mbps.
The on-line games in the past were played by only two persons exchanging data based on one-to-one connections, whereas recent ones (e.g. MMORPG: Massively Multi-player Online Role-playings Game) enable tens of thousands of people to be connected simultaneously. Specifically, Korea has established an excellent network infrastructure that can't be found anywhere in the world. Almost every household has a high-speed Internet access. What made this possible was, in part, high density of population that has accelerated the formation of good Internet infrastructure. However, this rapid increase in the use of on-line games may lead to surging traffics exceeding the limited Internet communication capacity so that the connection to the games is unstable or the server fails. expanding the servers though this measure is very costly could solve this problem. To deal with this problem, the present study proposes the load distribution technology that connects in the form of local clustering the game servers divided by their contents used in each on-line game reduces the loads of specific servers using the load balancer, and enhances performance of sewer for their efficient operation. In this paper, a cluster system is proposed where each Game server in the system has different contents service and loads are distributed efficiently using the game server resource information such as CPU utilization. Game sewers having different contents are mutually connected and managed with a network file system to maintain information consistency required to support resource information updates, deletions, and additions. Simulation studies show that our method performs better than other traditional methods. In terms of response time, our method shows shorter latency than RR (Round Robin) and LC (Least Connection) by about 12%, 10% respectively.

The urban areas have various landuses such as residential, commercial, industrial and official purposes that are highly concerned with human activities. The other landuses are relating to vehicle activities, which are roads, parking lots, bridges, parks etc. The mainly using landuses by human activities are possessing three different areas that are buildings, parking lots/roads and landscapes. Of these areas, the buildings and landscapes can be classified as non-pollution areas. However, the parking lots or roads are classifying as the main pollution areas because of vehicle activities. Therefore, the landuses arising the nonpoint pollution during a storm in urban areas are roads and parking lots. The vehicles are emitting lots of nonpoint pollutants such as metals and particulate matters and it is impacting on water qualities and aqua-ecosystems nearby the city areas. Therefore, this research was conducted for characterizing the pollutant types and determining the EMCs (Event Mean Concentrations) and unit pollutant loads during a storm. The monitoring was performed on 9 locations such as highways, service area, tollgates, parking lot and bridges. All of the landuses selected for monitoring are concerned with transportation. The results can be effectively used to predict the pollutant loading before urban planning and to select the BMPs (Best Management Practices) for reducing the pollution.

The failure of a bolted joint owing to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) has been considered one of the most important structural integrity issues in a nuclear power plant. In this study, the failure possibility of bolting, which is used to support the steam generator of a pressurized water reactor, owing to SCC and brittle fracture was evaluated in accordance with guidelines proposed by the Electric Power Research Institute, which are called the Reference Flaw Factor method. For this evaluation, first, detailed finite element stress analyses were conducted to obtain the actual nominal stresses of bolting in which either service loads or bolt preloads were considered. Based on these nominal stresses, the structural integrity of bolting was addressed from the viewpoints of SCC and toughness. In addition, the accuracy of the EPRI Reference Flaw Factor for assessing bolting failure was investigated using finite element fracture mechanics analyses.

The purpose of this study is increasing ventilation network usability for urban green space planning by enhancing its practicality and detail. A ventilation network feature extraction technique using roughness length($z_0$) was proposed. Continuously surfaced DZoMs generated from $z_0$(cadastral unit) using three interpolations(IDW, Spline, and Kriging) were compared to choose the most suitable interpolation method. Ventilation network features were extracted using the most suitable interpolation technique and studied with land cover and land surface temperature by spatial overlay comparison. Results show Kriging is most suitable for DZoM and feature extraction in comparison with IDW and Spline. Kriging based features are well fit to the land surface temperature(Landsat-7 ETM+) on summer and winter nights. Noteworthy is that the produced ventilation network appears to mitigate urban heat loads at night. The practical use of proposed ventilation network features are highly expected for urban green space planning, though strict validation and enhancement should follow. (1) $z_0$ enhancement, (2) additional ventilation network interpretation and editing, (3) linking disconnected ventilation network features, and (4) associated dataset enhancement with data integrity should technically preceded to enhance the applicability of a ventilation network for green space planning. The study domain will be expanded to the Seoul metropolitan area to apply the proposed ventilation network to green space planning practice.

According to design specifications for structural safety, a bridge in initial design step has been modelled to have larger self-weight, external loads and less stiffness than those of real one in service. Thereby measured buffeting responses of existing bridge show different distributions from those of the design model in design step. In order to obtain accurate buffeting responses of the in-site bridge, the analysis model needs to be modified by considering the measured natural frequencies. Until now, a Manual Tuning Method (MTM) has been widely used to obtain the Measurement-based Model(MBM) that has equal natural frequencies to the real bridge. However, since state variables can be selected randomly and its result is not apt to converge exact rapidly, MTM takes a lot of effort and elapsed time. This study presents Buffeting Response Correction Method (BRCM) to obtain more exact buffeting response above MTM. The BRCM is based on the idea the commonly used frequency domain buffeting analysis does not need all structural properties except mode shapes, natural frequencies and damping ratio. BRCM is used to improve each modal buffeting responses of the design model by substituting measured natural frequencies. The measured natural frequencies are determined from acceleration time-history in ordinary vibration of the real bridge. As illustrated examples, simple beam is applied to compare the results of BRCM with those of a assumed MBM by numerical simulation. Buffeting responses of BRCM are shown to be appropriate for those of in-site bridge and the difference is less than 3% between the responses of BRCM and MTM. Therefore, BRCM can calculate easily and conveniently the buffeting responses and improve effectively maintenance and management of in-site bridge than MTM.
In building construction, openings of the story-height deep beams are usually required for accessibility and service lines such as air conditioning ducts, drain pipes and electric units. It is known that the main parameters affecting the load bearing capacity of deep beams with web openings are size, shape, location and reinforcements of openings. However, there have been no pertinent theories and national design codes for predicting ultimate shear strength of reinforced concrete deep beams with web openings. In this study, the shear behavior of simply supported reinforced concrete deep beams with web openings subject to concentrated loads has been scrutinized experimentally. A total of 34 specimens, the geometry of openings, its reinforcements and shear span to depth ratio, being taken as the experimental variables, has been cast and tested in the laboratory. The effects of these structural parameters on the shear strength and crack initiation and propagation have been carefully checked and analyzed. From the tests, it has been observed that the failures of all specimens were due to shear mechanism and the ultimate strength of specimens varies according to the location of openings, by which the formation of compression struts between the loading points and supports are deterred. All of the test results of specimens have been compared with the formulas proposed by previous researchers. The results were closely coincident with the formulas given by Ray and Kong's equation except for some X series specimens having a larger dimension of openings beyond the geometric limits of proposed equations.
Sediment abrasion in rivers is caused by the interaction between bedrock channel bed and sediment particles transported through the river. Abrasion rate of sediment particles in rivers is controlled by two major factors; Sediment transport conditions including hydraulic conditions form the erosive forces and physical and chemical strengths of the particles form a resistance force against abrasion and other erosional processes. Physical experiments were performed to find the role of each variable on sediment abrasion process. Total 266 sediment particles were used in this experiment. All sediment particles were divided into 11 independent sediment groups with sediment particle size and sediment loads. Each sediment groups were abraded in tumbling mill for up to 8 hours. Changes in weight were recorded by run and total: 2,128 cases of abrasion rate were recoded. Physical strength of rock particles was measured with point load strength index. It is found that sediment abrasion rate has a negative functional relationship point load strength index ($I_{a(50)}$) ($R^2=0.22$). It was suggested that physical strength of sediment particles set the "maximum possible abrasion rate'. As sediment flux increases, abrasion rates of sediment particles with similar point load strength index were changed. It could be concluded that not only physical characteristics of sediment particles, but also sediment transport conditions control sediment abrasion rates.
The number of channels available to a video server is limited since the number of channels a video server can support is determined by its communication bandwidth. Several approaches such as batching, piggybacking and patching have been proposed to reduce I/O demand on the video server by sharing multicast data. Patching has been shown to be efficient in the matter of the cost for VOD systems. Unlike conventional multicast techniques, patching is a dynamic multicast scheme which enables a new request to join an ongoing multicast. In addition, true VOD can be achieved since a new request can be served immediately without having to wait for the next multicast. In this paper. we propose two types of channel reservation patching algorithm : a fixed channel reservation patching and a variable channel reservation patching. To immediately schedule the requests for popular videos, these algorithms reserve the channels of video server for the fixed number of popular videos or for the variable number of popular videos which is determined dynamically according to the load of video server. The performance of the proposed algorithms is evaluated through simulations, and compared with that of simple patching. Our performance measures are average defection rate, average latency, service fairness and the amount of buffered data according to video server loads. Simulation results show that the proposed channel reservation patching algorithms provide better performance compared to simple patching algorithm.

In this paper, measured and calculated responses are compared in order to give how the static and dynamic responses occurred in steel railway bridges due to train loads could be calculated appropriately. From this, it is investigated how the impact factors are varied by changing the train speed above 100km/h Field measurement is carried out by the steel strain gages and displacement transducers at the main design points, and then the static and dynamic response, fundamental frequencies, damping ratios and impact factors of the bridges are obtained. Static analysis is done using the computer program developed according to three dimensional matrix structural analysis in which the trains and bridges are modelled as 1,2 and 3 dimensions. Dynamic analysis is done according to 2 approaches, the moving force and mass problem. In moving force problem, the solutions are obtained by the modesuperposition-method and in moving mass problem by the direct integration method. From this study, it is known that in order to obtain the static response in the railway bridges, the bridge could be modelled by 1 or 2 dimension as in the highway bridge, however the response ratio(measured/calculaled) is high comparing to the highway bridges. By the way, the dynamic response should be obtained by the moving mass problem. And by comparing the measured and code specified impact factors, it is known that the factors specified in the present railway bridge code are very safe under the present service speed below 100km/h. However, because the factors become very high under the speed above 100km/h, especially in the simple plate girder bridge, it is thought that the code specification on impact factor should be discussed enough under the rapid transit system.
