  • This study explores the determinants and processes of IT consolidation of Korean conglomerates. Through an extensive analysis of cases, this study identifies the drivers, benefits and critical success factors of IT consolidation, and observes the transition of vision for the IT service subsidiaries in the conglomerates. The results show that most firms in this analysis have completed the organizational, physical, and logical consolidation of their IT resources, and currently some of them are preparing for the next stage of IT consolidation such as rational consolidation and virtualization. It is also found that the strategic factor was one of the most significant determinants in consolidating IT resources which leaded the transition of vision of the IT service firms in the conglomerates from "cost center" to "profit center". The results of this study can provide a fundamental and empirical basis for building a theory of IT consolidation, and be used as a valuable benchmarking model for the organizations which consider starting a project of IT consolidation.

  • The air transport industry is the most important as means of human exchange between the countries. Because the spread effect and the durability by aviation cooperation between the countries are much higher than any other industry, a research about air transport industry is very important to allied industry field as well as national policy about International cooperation and integration. Specially, according to the economic interchange with North Korea becomes active, the role of air transport as related traffic network with North Korea becomes more important. The number of flights is increasing sharply after South-North summit meeting, and two sides established and are using temporary direct route between South-North Korea. When we consider that the number of flights utilizing temporary direct route is increasing every year, It is not desirable to use temporary routes continuously because the current agreement between South and North cant be reliable far the case of unexpected circumstance. In addition, the current agreement is not based on the international standards. The paper is to study the condition to promote the coordination of civil aviation in the whole Korean peninsula. As known, the aviation system in North Korea is mainly operated by military unit. The study will review the current status of air transport system of South and North and the effective way of cooperation of civil aviation between both sides. The cooperation between governments as well as between airlines is studied. The establishment of Air Traffic Service Agreement is going to be handled heavily because the stable air traffic service is the most required base for the operation of air transport. The authors also try to find a way to support the development of infrastructure of aviation industry in North Korea.

  • One type of innovative multimedia platform environments is mobile data services (MDS), exemplified by Nate, Show, and OZ. In the context of MDS, enhancing user's continuance intention is a significant challenge to the continuing growth and long-term viability of MDS. Because the cost of using MDS is borne mainly by users, they are likely to evaluate it based on perceptions of what is received and what is given. This study identifies perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment as the 'get'components, and perceived fee and perceived anxiety as the 'give' components. To understand the role of get and give components in the MDS post-adoption environment, this study incorporates these components into expectation confirmation model. We collected data from 204 users who had direct experiences with MDS within recent 3 months. The data was analyzed by employing PLS (partial least squares). Theoretical and practical implications of our findings are discussed.

  • Relationship Marketing has been dealt with as an effective strategy to sustain customer loyalty in many previous researches. For relationship development, a customer's efforts are necessary as well as an organization's efforts. However, the role of customers for the development of the relationship with an organization has been dealt in few previous researches so far. Furthermore, whereas researchers understand the importance of consumers' motivation in the relationship, few researchers had paid attention. This research is based on the Self-Determination Theory (SDT) to explain the role of customer motivation in the process of relationship development and performance. We started by using SDT to confirm the psychological side of relationship development in customer aspects. Then, this paper verified the relationships among environmental factors(informative communication, perceived personalization), relationship motivation(identified motivation, internal motivation) and relational factors(affective commitment, relationship strength). It suggested that customer's roles in psychological parts be inevitable in developing the relationship and it acquired by such stimulations from service providers. In conclusion, this paper has several marketing implications on customer acquisition and retention. For service providers, they should recognize the fact that a customer's perception of self-determination factors can generate tangible and intangible performance in relationship development.

  • This study conducts to examine the effect of purchase intention on social shopping by connection density and centrality which is a structural characteristic of social network. Furthermore, this study suggests and analyses the difference of social shopping purchase intention between online community which focuses on a group and SNS(social network service) which focuses on an individual. To examine these reason, this study proposes hypotheses that reflects structural characteristic then analyses them. The result of analysis shows that the purchase intention on social shopping seems to be high when the density of connection is high and the purchase intention seems to be high when the centrality is high as well. Moreover, there is difference in the purchase intention on social shopping between online community and SNS and it is found that both cases where the connection density is high in the online community and the connection centrality is high in SNS have significant impact on the purchase intention. Based on these results, this study provides an implication on the importance on network structure in social network and social shopping and to increase the purchase intention of social shopping, this study suggests the implication on the importance and direction which understands the structure of social network type.

  • The study examines the effects that non-audit service and firm's ownership structure might have on the value relevance directly or indirectly. This investigation is based on prior research which suggests that the audit firms' non-audit services is likely to adversely affect investors' perceptions of the credibility of financial reporting and that corporate governance are likely to mitigate the adverse this kind of non-audit services effects. The sample consists of non-banking firms listed on the Korea Exchange that reported annual financial statements over the period from 2004 to 2008. In the setting, stock returns as proxy for capital market response, auditor quality(measured as the discretionary accruals) is endogenously determined. This study employs a structural equation model to take into account the endogenous variables under study. The analysis influences through the path analysis that ownership structure suppress the market response through audit quality and also the non-audit service have influence on the market response through audit quality. The results of this study contribute to the literature in the following ways. First, this provides direct evidence that there is a negative association between audit firms' client importance and the value relevance. Second, the findings that the negative association is attenuated for audit quality support the findings of prior studies which present that corporate governance provide higher credibility of financial reports.

  • Although a series of studies shows the fact that a company's reputation could affect its sales rate and stock price, due to the increased use of SNS, the research related to the online measurement method for the corporate reputation has been relatively insufficient. This study explores a design for a method to quantify the corporate reputation value by reconstructing the discussions in literature review. Concretely, this study divides the corporate reputation value into the corporate identity information and the corporate awareness information, which includes the following five sub-categories: (1) the quality of product and service; (2) the employment environment; (3) the corporate vision; (4) the social responsibility; and (5) the business achievement. Additionally, for the corporate identity assessment, this study considers the following six factors: (1) Agreeableness (Goodness), (2)Capability (Ability), (3)Enterprise (Rise), (4)Chic (Class), (5) Ruthlessness (Authority), and (6)Informality. Based on these categories and factors, this study develops a technique quantifying the corporate reputation value by selecting 'word items' for the reputation search, and after conducting a frequency analysis in a survey. Also, to verify the result, this study exemplifies the reputation of three SI companies in Korea which could be utilized by using the commercialized reputation service. This study firstly attempts the corporate reputation measurement by classifying the identity and the awareness (corporate image and communication) upon a company in detail and enables its real applicabilities by proposing a formula to measure the reputation scores which can be utilized by verified word items from a frequency analysis.

  • This study focused on developing strategies of cyber-compact city, combining compact city with information and communications technologies(ICTs), in order to enhance sustainable transportation. The cyber-compact city development is defined as a development that is able to reduce travel by ICTs and encourage people to use transit or non-motorized vehicles such as bicycles for ICT-induced travel (especially, discretionary travel) by compact and mixed land use. It can be achieved with combining cyber and compact strategies with respect to network, node, and area. For example, ICT network may use transit network facility, a transfer station may be a hub of ICTs, and transit influenced zone may work with ICT service area. We proposed three cohesive strategies for the cyber-compact city based on literature review and case studies on cyber and compact cities. The first strategy is a cohesion between public transportation and telecommunication network by centering on the two for national and urban spatial linkage structure. That is, cities or urban centers and its peripheral areas can be connected by rail network, and extra space of railway network can be used for constructing telecommunication network infrastructure. The second strategy is a cohesion between public transportation node and telecommunication node by building up regional and urban telecommunication centers near to or at main railway stations. For this strategy, telework centers and communication service centers should be established mainly at transfer stations. The third strategy is a cohesion between public transportation impact zone and telecommunication impact zone as transit oriented development.

  • Recently, impact investment has attracted attention all over the world. This is intended to effectively solve problems by combining private capital and various financial techniques with social and environmental needs, as it is recognized that it is difficult to solve social and environmental problems. Impact investment means a mixture of financial, social, and environmental aspects. This refers to an investment focused on such a blended value, through which it simultaneously achieves financial and social values such as return on investment. The purpose of this study is to study whether impact investment, which has become a new issue, is actually applicable in Korea. This study first considers the concept and method of impact investment, and a prior study on social enterprises and impact investment that pursue social values. In particular, after analyzing in detail the social performance-related bonds (SIB) and operational cases, we intend to explore the possible applicability of impact investment to Korea. The results and implications of this study are, first, changes in the government's attitude toward impact finance. The government should entrust innovative public works to market-proven service providers to enhance the professionalism and efficiency of public service projects. Second, the legal system must innovate. Impact investment should provide an institutional foundation to pursue social problem solving simultaneously, not maximizing financial performance. Third, when investing in public works in the private sector, impact investment must clearly demand social performance and clarify the evaluation accordingly. The project execution process should create an impact environment that is more free and active.
