A New Business Model of the Multi-channel Satellite Webcasting Service (다채널 위성인터넷방송서비스의 비즈니스모델에 관한 연구 -네트워크외부성 유.무에 따른 비교분석을 중심으로-)

  • The appearance of on-demand business model of multimedia contents is one of the biggest changes in the broadband Internet which aims at the high-speed Internet users. Currently the interest in the webcasting service, a new converged service of the broadcasting and the telecommunications, has been increased. However the quality of service is not guaranteed due to the bottleneck problem in a middle-mile as the fundamental limit of the Internet, and has not been improved greatly due to the small-scaled operators of the webcasting services. This study suggests a new business model of the multi-channel satellite webcasting service based on the satellite multicasting and content delivery network, which guarantees the quality of service and channelizes the contents by the type or by the special purpose.

Implementation of sensor network based health care system for diabetes patient

  • It can improve human being's life quality that all people can have more convenient medical service under pervasive computing environment. For a pervasive health care application for diabetes patient, we've implemented a health care system, which is composed of three parts. Various sensors monitor both outer and inner environment of human such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and glycemic index, etc. These sensors form zigbee based sensor network. And medical information server accumulates sensing values and performs back-end processing. To simply transfer these sensing values to a medical team is a low level's medical service. So, we've designed a new service model based on back propagation neural network for more improved medical service. Our experiments show that a proposed healthcare system can give high level's medical service because it can recognize human's context more concretely.

  • Recent reports about economic structure and changes show that global economy changes to rely on service rather than manufacturing. This phenomenon can be explained in two ways: the growth of service industry itself and the increasing reliance on service by other industry areas. The importance of service is indicated by the fact that the contribution of research and development, marketing, and finance to the revenue generation of companies is getting greater than that of manufacturing. This change in the economic structure calls for researchers' attention on the importance of service and the service-based economy. In the service-based economy, firms are considered value proposition providers and consumers actual value creators so that the concept of co-value creation becomes a key thesis to study. However, there are a variety of definitions of service and diversified measurements of service anchored in the supplier-oriented understanding of service yet. This lack of understanding of the service and the economic paradigm change causes a lot of problems in the areas of service productivity, service quality, and service innovation. Even though a new movement called service science started and rigorously pursues the way of enhancing the understanding of the economic change and service productivity, there is no framework that provides a unified view about the new role of service, service productivity, service quality, and thus service innovation. This study proposes a unified framework to provide a structured view about service provision and to facilitate the research on service. The framework is built on the concepts from previous studies about service marketing and service science: service life cycle and service networks including value activity network, resource integrator network, and capability network. We hope this study can be used as the basis for future studies on service science.

QoS-aware Fast Wakeup and Connection Mechanism on Broadcasting Convergence Network (방송통신 융합망에서 QoS 향상을 위한 Fast Wakeup and Connection 기술)

  • The convergence of broadcasting and telecommunication technologies is a key issue of the ubiquitous networks. So this paper offers the convergence of integrated telecommunication networks and broadcasting system, Advanced Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (AT-DMB), and the interconnection of them via the Media Independent Information Server/Service (MIIS). Then, this paper proposes the fast wakeup and connection mechanism with concepts for improving QoS and energy efficiency simultaneously. In the proposed convergence network, our mechanism places the key on the minimization of both the incoming service delay destined to a turned-off interface by using the broadcasting network and the additional energy consumption. This paper further evaluates the performance of proposed mechanism through the numerical and experimental analysis and has confirmed the decrease of both service delay and energy consumption.

Design and Implementation of Video Streaming Service Quality Control System through Available Bandwidth Management (가용대역폭 관리를 통한 영상 스트리밍 서비스 품질 제어 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we propose video quality control system(VQCS) which can control video service quality through the monitoring of end-to-end available bandwidth for video streaming service like IPTV in NGN convergence network. Various multimedia services such as video, voice and gaming service can be provided by IPTV, and these services require large amounts of bandwidth. At this time, video quality degradation like video jerkiness, block distortion and blurring is caused when network available bandwidth is insufficient. Available bandwidth monitoring method is need to stably control video streaming quality. So, we periodically calculate the amount of the packets in link and measure available bandwidth by using total length field in IP header at terminal. Scalability extractor in network selects suitable video streaming data rate based on available bandwidth and transports video streaming with adaptive data rate to prevent video quality deterioration.

  • 전 세계적으로 노령화 문제가 사회적 이슈로 대두되고 있는 가운데, 노인이 느끼는 전반적인 삶의 질 (Quality of Life, QoL) 이 하락하는 문제가 사회 전반에 걸쳐 중요한 문제로 인식되고 있다. 이에 다양한 형태로 발생하고 있는 노인들의 문제를 해결하기 위하여 노인학, 사회 복지학 등의 분야에서 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 이 중 노인의 사회적 관계 (Social Network, SN) 를 강화, 확장하여 노인의 삶의 만족도 향상을 추구하고자 하는 연구를 찾아볼 수 있다. 이러한 관점에서 노인의 사회적 관계를 인터넷을 이용해 개선함으로써, 노인의 삶의 질을 향상시키고자 하는 것이 본 연구의 궁극적인 목표이다. 이에 본 연구의 세부적인 목적은 현재 젊은 층을 중심으로 많이 사용되고 있는 SNS 를 노인들이 사용하지 않는 이유에 대한 분석, 노인을 위한 SNS 의 핵심적인 기능적, 서비스적 요소를 파악하는데 있다. 이를 위해 현재 인터넷을 잘 활용하고 있는 60 세 이상의 노인 22 명을 대상으로 개별 인터뷰, 참가자가 사용하는 서비스 분석, FGI 의 3 가지 방식으로 데이터를 수집하였다. 이후 수집한 데이터를 이용하여 정성적 분석 방법으로 Casual Network 를 도출하였으며, 정량적 분석 방법인 Laddering 분석으로 Hierarchical Map 도출하여 비교하였다. 또한 도출된 결과가 노인들만의 특징인지를 파악하기 위하여 대학생, 직장인 각 10 명씩을 대상으로 노인을 대상으로 한 연구 방식과 동일한 방법으로 데이터를 수집, 분석 하였다. 최종적으로 본 연구는 사회감성적 선택 이론 (Socioemotional Selectivity Theory, SST)를 바탕으로 인터넷에서의 Social Network 활동도 오프라인과 유사한 특징을 가지고 있으며, 현재 친하게 지내고 있는 사람들을 중심으로 SN 을 강화시키려 하는 강화형 타입과 새로운 SN을 생성하기 위하여 노력하는 확장형 타입으로 구분할 수 있었다. 추후 이러한 특징들을 반영하여 노인들을 위한 SNS 가 지녀야 할 기능적, 시스템적 요소를 제안하고, 추후 연구 및 SNS 개발과 관련한 계획을 정리하였다.

  • The growing usage of multimedia communication applications with specific bandwidth and real-time delivery requirements has created the needs for quality of service(QoS). In response to the growing demand for an integrated services, the Reservation Protocol(RSVP) has been designed to exchange resource reservation among routers in the internet. RSVP protocol provides the quality of service for real-time applications but the network efficiency is reduced because of the limited bandwidth. In order to use network resources efficiently. We compare the resource efficiency of traditional reservation methods with that of the proposed method and evaluate the performance of the internet phone.

  • The number of users and applications of the Internet is increasing and network traffic is increased in proportion to that enormous]y. Application and services, which are provided from a relatively long distance away, running on wide area network are not independent of the current network state. As a multimedia service is provided to a lot of users over the Internet, network status is one of factors to be considered in providing high quality of multimedia service. In this parer, one of methods to get network information is discussed and it is applied to a multimedia service.

A Mobile-aware Adaptive Rate Control Scheme for Improving the User Perceived QoS of Multimedia Streaming Services in Wireless Broadband Networks

  • Recently, due to the prevalence of various mobile devices and wireless broadband networks, there has been a significant increase in interest and demand for multimedia streaming services such as the mobile IPTV. In such a wireless broadband network, transmitting a continuous stream of multimedia data is difficult to achieve due to mobile stations (MSs) movement. Providing Quality of Service (QoS) for multimedia video streaming applications requires the server and/or client to be network-aware and adaptive. Therefore, in order to deploy a mobile IPTV service in wireless broadband networks, offering users efficient wireless resource utilization and seamlessly offering user perceived QoS are important issues. In this paper, we propose a new adaptive streaming scheme, called MARC (Mobile-aware Adaptive Rate Control), which adjusts the quality of bit-stream and transmission rate of video streaming based on the wireless channel status and network status. The proposed scheme can control the rate of multimedia streaming to be suitable for the wireless channel status by using awareness information of the wireless channel quality and the mobile station location. The proposed scheme can provide a seamless multimedia playback service in wireless broadband networks in addition to improving the QoS of multimedia streaming services. The proposed MARC scheme alleviates the discontinuity of multimedia playback and allocates a suitable client buffer to the wireless broadband network. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme.

Improving IPTV Forwarding Masechanism in IEEE 802.16j MMR Networks Based on Aggregation

  • Internet protocol television (IPTV) service depends on the network quality of service (QoS) and bandwidth of the broadband service provider. IEEE 802.16j mobile multihop relay Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access networks have the opportunity to offer high bandwidth capacity by introducing relay stations. However, to actually satisfy QoS requirements for offering IPTV services (HDTV, SDTV, Web TV, and mobile TV) for heterogeneous users' requests, providers must use a video server for each IPTV service type, which increases the network load, especially bandwidth consumption and forwarding time. In this paper, we present a solution for forwarding IPTV video streaming to diverse subscribers via an 802.16j broadband wireless access network. In particular, we propose a new multicast tree construction and aggregation mechanism based on the unique property of prime numbers. Performance evaluation results show that the proposed scheme reduces both bandwidth consumption and forwarding time.
