  • This research explores the consumers' experience in retailing channel(offline channel and online channel) using the critical incident technique. This research aims to clarify the common incidents within retailing channels which implies decisive factors over the channels, and to clarify the contrasts between channels to compare advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, the research is designed to collect the consumers' narrative of those who have used both channels in 3 months. Classifications are conducted with other researchers majoring consumer science. The results address how impressive experiences are constructed on each channel in three dimensions: product, information search, and the purchase-service dimension. These results are able to provide implications for offline and online retailers and directions for future research.

  • This paper deals with the study of how the 'birth' of Brazil happened and how the European utopianism was represented in Brazilian Informative Literature of the sixteenth century, that is, the first literary manifestations of Brazil. There were at that time the Renaissance humanism and the scientific development that encouraged dozens of illustrious navigators for new discoveries ultra-seas, like Christopher Columbus who discovered America. Writings such as Letter to King Manuel of Pero Vaz de Caminha, had mostly an intention to inform Europeans about climates, indians and possibility to discover gold or silver. Main narrative characteristics were uncertainty and exageration, which ironically helped to attract more discoveries and explorations in the New World. Americo Vespucio's Mundus Novus inspired Thomas More to write Utopia, in which the author described through a Portuguese sailor the ideal but unrealizable society. Utopianism regarding the imaginary island of 'Brazi', well known among Europeans since long ago, may have influenced the current name of the country: 'Brazil'. On the other hand, utopianism shown in Brazilian Informative Literature worked as a justification for Europeans to explore and colonize the New World.

  • In dialogue with the concepts of State of Emergency and Bare Life developed by Giorgio Agamben (1998), this paper explores the novel La transmigración de los cuerpos (2013) by Yuri Herrera, to see how the author builds a narrative space where the logic of the state of emergency is a detonator of the fictional plot. This analysis underlines how Herrera articulates a poetics of precariousness and violence to draw a map of desolation and despair recognizable through the cardinal points of death, fear, corruption and an agonizing will to survive. In this unnamed universe the characters' bodies are subject to violence from the State and from criminals.

  • This study targets the city of Paju, Gyeonggi-do, where many challenges are facing ecological assets management due to the increase in recent development. Using the survey data provided by the National Institute of Ecology in Korea, the study analysed the differences in the local residents' perception of local ecological assets. The Q methodology, which is useful for revealing differences in opinions, was applied to classify the narrative groups, which had different points of view in evaluating each asset. Next, the study compared the differences in perceptions of the vulnerability of ecological assets. As a result of the analysis, the city of Paju was divided into two main narrative groups: a 'Nature Conservation Group' and a 'Heritage Conservation Group'. The Nature Conservation Group wanted to prioritize ecologically valuable assets, such as wetlands, brackish zones, and forests. The Heritage Conservation Group preferred preserving ecological assets having a cultural contexts, such as royal tombs, graves, and the surrounding landscape. Evaluating the ecological assets, the two groups identified 23 ecological sites under threat from development among the 25 ecological sites considered. The Nature Conservation Group noted the importance of sites such as the Sannam Wetlands, Gongneungcheon, Gongneungcheon Brackish Zone, and Simhak Mountain. These were considered to be the most vulnerable ecological assets in the city. The study found differences in the perceived values for each ecological asset by residents. The results can serve as useful data for decision-making on ecological asset management in the city of Paju.

  • This study aimed at exploring how an instructor constructs meanings through content-based instruction (CBI) offered to pre-service teachers majoring in early childhood education. The course, early childhood mathematics education, was conducted during the spring semester in 2011. This study adopted a narrative inquiry, and data were collected through observations, interviews, and work samples. This study found that during the whole process from the preparation phase to the end-of-program evaluation, the instructor captured diverse challenging moments. During the preparation phase, she needed to have careful orchestration in designing lessons in order to overcome her feeling of pressure as a non-native speaker of English and design the integration of contents and English language learning to be truly powerful. In the phase of implementation, the lack of student motivation and building a good rapport between the instructor and the students were certainly challenges. The result of the student evaluations weakened her desire to implement CBI. The instructor incorporated diverse instructional strategies to overcome the obstacles. The instructor's experiences in this study will positively shape future educators' thinking and learning about meaningful and appropriate academic English instruction for content-area teaching of college students who were majoring in early childhood education.

  • This study is an investigation regarding the understanding of the nature of science among pre-service science teachers majoring in science education. We interviewed 22 senior students in science education who finished their internship courses. Students were interviewed individually for approximately 20 minutes each. Data from semi-structured interview were audio-recorded and transcribed for the analysis. Findings indicated that participants held more complete understanding of the nature of scientific knowledge than the nature of scientific enterprise. Their understandings of the nature of scientific method was that hypothetical-deductive method is more scientific than descriptive-narrative method and there is a single stepwise scientific method to solve problems. These results showed that they have a narrow view of the nature of science. Thus, teacher education programs need to integrate the understanding of the nature of science throughout.

  • Currently, museums and architectural heritage provide augmented user experiences by incorporating various media technologies. They still, however, suffer from the limitation of entertainment-based and the provision of location-based simple and repetitive contents. In addition, while acting as a key medium of experience for architectural heritage, the concept of space is not properly reflected in current services. The purpose of this study is to design user space experience considering such characteristics of architectural heritage. The spatial experience content and content production platform are defined. This software platform creates content that enhances the experience of the place by giving a context-based digital data associated with space and objects. The spatial experience content is designed as a series of experience sequences. The composition of the sequence borrows the method of film and narrative which segment and connect consecutive experiences on a scene basis considering user's detailed spatial experience. Therefore, content components can be combined and reproduced in various types. Augmented contents were extracted by using rule-based reasoning function of ontology at the moment. As a practical example of architectural heritage, the Seokjojeon Hall is used to reveal a spatial experience scenario.

  • Jose Donoso's Casa de campo is an uncertain and ambiguous novel because it has a political allegory on one hand and metafiction on the other. The novel may well be considered a political allegory about the 1973 military coup in Chile. This understanding, however, oversimplifies the fictional world of Casa de campo. In the deep level of the narrative, the novel is a literary portrait of challenges and failures that occurred in Latin American history. As metafiction, Casa de campo features discourses on the literary portrait and calls attention to reality outside the novel. Therefore, Donoso seeks to reveal the unusual, temporary and fictional character of the grim reality.
