Economists have advocated that the market competitiveness improved the firm's productivity and eventually its service quality. However, the previous researches did not provide the empirical results enough to prove that the competitiveness do improve the service quality. In this paper, we conducted an empirical research to find whether the competition induces the quality of service. The telecommunication industry was chosen since it went through the increasing competition along with a high attention. We found that competition itself does not guarantee the quality of service. It is the intensity of competition that improves the service quality. The service quality depends mainly on the competitor's competence, i.e. the intensity of competition rather than the competition itself. In sum, when we want tc improve the service quality as well as the productivity, we had better increase the intensity of competition by allowing many new strong entities.

In this paper, we conducted an empirical research to find whether the privatization and competition induces the quality of service. The mobile telecommunication industry was chosen since it went through bringing the privatization and increasing the competition along with a high attention. We found that the privatization and competition itself does not guarantee the quality of mobile telecommunication service. It is the intensity of competition that improves the mobile telecommunication service quality. The service quality depends mainly on the competitor's competence, i.e. the intensity of competition rather than the competition itself. In sum, when we want to improve the service quality as well as the productivity, we had better increase the intensity of competition by allowing many new strong entries.
Competitiveness of a firm essentially depends on the value of the product or service the firm supply. Product or service of high value derives customer purchase activity. Service mix is the process which creates competitiveness by value creation for customers through optimal combination of physical characteristics of product and service. This research is to contribute competitiveness increase of Korean manufacture industry by study of the effect of service mix as to the business competitiveness. Usually competitiveness advantage approach relies on the industry structure competition theory and the resource-based approach. However, it is said that, while the industry structure competition theory helps finding attractive industry, it rarely helps finding which companies succeed or fail in the specific industry. The resource-based viewpoint approach is limited in that this cannot provide any theory or systematic frame for the analysis even though it has contributed a lot to the competitiveness increase. Power process approach is applied to this study in order to overcome this limit and to Increase the business competitiveness. Power process is the process to create the value, the source of power by interaction of power elements, value, needs, environment and relation, the five power determination elements. Power process is a process that creates value to satisfy the power objective for the attainment of the goals of the power subject. This study is to contribute for the manufacture industry by establishing service mix strategy from the power process viewpoint.
The study carried out a survey with employees of hospitals located in Daejeon, Chungnam, and Chungbuk from Sep. 12 to Sep. 30, 2005 in order to derive primary elements that affect the improvement of hospital's competitiveness. The study investigated and analyzed the employees' recognition on the change of competitive environment caused by the change of medical environment. The study also analyzed the elements that affect the hospital's competitiveness and the competitive strategies of the hospitals. The conclusion of this study can be summarized as follows. 1. Summary 1) Most of the employees responded that there is a rival in the competitive environment and the competitive is intense. Especially when the employees are married, live in urban areas, have an education level of university graduate or are managers, they tend to think the competitive is very intense. Also, they said that the competitive is based upon the quality of medical service. They mentioned the element that has the biggest effect on the competitiveness is the element of medical consumer and they recognized that the medical services in university and general hospitals have more competitiveness than the one-department hospitals. 2) It was investigated that the medical technique service has the most effect on the hospital's competitiveness. Also, the external service of medical techniques also has a large effect on the hospital's competitiveness. 3) When they were asked for the factors that affect the patients' decision on selecting a hospital, most of them responded "capability and technique of the medical staffs." Also, they said that "sufficient explanation from doctors" and "special center and clinic" are the factors that have big effects on the patients' decision. 4) In the SWOT analysis, most of them responded that the strength is the hospital's characteristics and the weakness is insufficient and obsolete equipment. They said the opportunity is the demands for professional medical service and the risk is the intense competitive among the hospitals. 5) In the SWOT strategy, they emphasized the strategy that uses the opportunity and the strength and the strategy that uses the opportunity while overcoming the weakness. 6) As for the basic competition strategy, most of them thought of the strategy of professionalizing the medical service most importantly. Next, they focused on the strategy of distinct service and the strategy of lower prime cost. 2. Conclusion 1) Because service competition between hospitals is happening seriously, need competitiveness security through right awareness transfer and satisfaction upgrade about medical consumer. 2) For medical technique service upgrade that equip Hospital's competitiveness but affects most, must solidify the countermeasure because professionalizing the medical service and newest medical technique induction should be achieved first, and compose task force for the external service of medical techniques improvement. 3) To improve SWOT of hospital, opportunity and the strength strategy choice that rescue hospital's characteristics heightening professionalizing the medical service level is fancied. 4) As for the basic competition strategy, will have to try in phase triangular position of hospital which is trusted medical level upgrade and excellent manpower security and finance independence through upgrade. The study was only done with hospitals in Daejeon, Chungnam and Chungbuk. Also, it is a study from the side of suppliers of medical service so there are limitations. However, the significance of the study is to present the basic data for improvement of hospital's competitiveness by examining the importance of medical techniques and external service of medical techniques that are the main effects on the improvement of hospital's competitiveness.

The selection factors of service companies have changed in accordance with intensifying competition in the marine transportation service market and environment changes of transportation services. To explore the important factors of customer choice to marine transportation service, this study empirically examines the influence of these selection factors; service provision area, price competitiveness, corporate image, service expertise, and sales support, on transaction continuity through customers' perceived service value and satisfaction. Based on an online survey with those in the Korean marine transportation industry, this study conducted statistical analyses using structural equation modeling. Based on relevant previous studies, the current study constructed a total of 55 survey questions. Finally, 213 questionnaires were collected. Among the five selection factors, corporate image did not affect perceived service value, and price competitiveness was still the most important factor. However, service expertise and sales support were found to be more important factors than regional factors. In order to maintain transaction continuity, shipping companies should also strive to improve their service quality to their customers. In particular, service quality strategies focused on time and regional factors should develop to strategies with the key factors for the changed business environment.
The service industry has become very important for almost every country. The same goes for Korea, as its service industry accounts for more than 60 percent of GDP. However, it is true that the competitiveness of Korea's service industry is very low compared to that of major developed countries. It is particularly true for knowledge-intensive service sectors. In this reason, Korea needs to strengthen the competitiveness of domestic service sectors. There have been many studies on service innovation models. 1his paper tries to explore how to enhance the competitiveness of Korean service industry. It argues that the science and technology will play an essential role in strengthening the competitiveness of many service sectors and technology and innovation management will be very important also for them. Therefore, based on the review on existinf models, this paper suggests a "Model of Strategic Services Innovation Management" which is composed of strategic intent, technological innovation, and organizational innovation. Based on this model this paper analyzes two cases: Wal-Mart and Incheon International Airport Co. According to our analyzes, both companies have enhanced their competitiveness significantly based on technological and organizational innovations, which have been initiated at corporate leveL Therefore, the Korean service industry should actively adopt the Strategic Services Innovation Management Model in order to enhance its competitiveness and productivity.
This study extracted the major attributes of the competitiveness of services provided by port logistics networks from previous research and interviews with experts and, based on the attributes, analyzed the effects of change in the competitiveness of the Incheon Port. According to the results, services provided by port logistics networks were divided into facility conveniences, access conveniences, and decision conveniences. In the results on the integrated value of the competitiveness of logistics network among ports, competitiveness was high in order of Busan Port>Qigndao Port>Tianjin Port>Dalian Port>Incheon Port. Particularly in the results of scenario analysis, with the elevation of one or two factors of logistics network service, the Incheon Port was even inferior to the Dalian Port, which had the lowest competitiveness among the ports compared. In the results of reversed fuzzy analysis, the Incheon Port could maintain equal competitiveness with the Dalian Port by raising the service level of the logistics network by 25% for facility conveniences, by 8% for access conveniences, and by 1% for decision conveniences.
The purpose of this research is to develop a service R&D concept definition and finding service R&D demand in Korea. It is necessary to develop an effective service R&D model to improve the competitiveness of the service industry. A survey model for finding service R&D demands has been developed through extensive discussions with experts. A demand survey for 91 experts in service industry and academia has been conducted to find relative weights of each service R&D category. Several other aspects on service R&D has beed investigated to analyze the relative importance of service R&D subjects. And a benchmarking on previous service R&D research investment has been performed. Past and present service R&D topics are compared as a whole and by each individual domain. A service R&D framework and important funding areas has been suggested. The results of this research can be used for research fund allocation decisions for strengthening service industry competitiveness.
Current socioeconomic condition in South Korea is characterized by growing country with highly unemployment rate. Enhancing service industry, therefore, is one of the important government policy issues. In addition to quantitative growth of service industries, OECD comparisons between countries as shown in the competitiveness of the domestic service industry, followed by a very low-level, enhancing the competitiveness of service industries are also important issues of national policy. In particular, finance, education, insurance industry, such as relatively large enterprises have entered the service industry to remain competitive and comparable, but the case of small service industries, has shown a very low level of competitiveness. Thus, the world's leading technology and IT infrastructure can be applied to small and medium-sized service industry in order to improve productivity, customer satisfaction, and service infrastructure, resulting in improving competitiveness. The purpose of this study is to develop government supporting policy issues by analyzing the current usage of IT, problems and requirement analysis, and critical success factors for applying IT to small and medium-sized service industries. For a survey 2,000 samples are collected from service companies. The results show that IT usage is very important to improve competitiveness in small and medium sized service industry. In addition, customized it solutions are needed to satisfy different characteristics of service industry depends on types of business. Finally, government supporting programs of IT has to be improved. The results would be able to provide directions and guide lines of IT utilization in service industries.

One of the important areas of state policy in the socio-economic and cultural development of the country is cultural diplomacy. It contributes to the information dissemination about the country, strengthens interstate relations, and forms a positive image. Through cultural diplomacy, we achieve a positive perception of the world community of the country, determined by its place in the modern system of international relations. The aim of the study is a comparative analysis of cultural diplomacy opportunities for sustainable development at different levels of public relations, as well as the impact of cultural diplomacy opportunities on the indicators of the Global Sustainable Competitiveness Index and the Global Sustainable Development Index. Regarding the results of the research on the impact of cultural diplomacy opportunities on the indicators of the Global Index of Sustainable Competitiveness and the Global Index of Sustainable Development, four groups are identified among the countries of the European Union: countries with a very high level of sustainable competitiveness and sustainable development; countries with a high level of sustainable competitiveness and sustainable development; countries with low levels of sustainable competitiveness and sustainable development.
