A Study on the Implementation and Modeling of 20kW Scale ESS Load Test Device for Emergency Generator (소방용 비상발전기의 현장부하시험을 위한 20 kW급 ESS 부하시험장치 모델링과 구현에 관한 연구)

  • An emergency generator is key equipment for fire-fighting to supply power to fire-fighting facilities, which protect property and people in cases of fire accidents. A rated load test for emergency generators must be carried out by connecting an emergency load to the generator in accordance with related regulations. However, a no-load test has been performed for emergency generators in general since serious problems can occur when the main power is cut off, including the damage of customer devices and shut down of critical loads. Therefore, this paper proposes a load test method for an emergency generator using energy storage system (ESS) without the interruption of main power. The emergency power system was also modeled based on PSCAD/EMTDC software, and a 200-kW scale ESS load test device was implemented. The simulation and test results show that the load test method is useful and practical for an emergency power supply system.

The study on the quality standards of groundwater in Korea in comparing to the developed countries (우리나라와 선진국간의 지하수 수질기준에 관한 고찰)

  • In this study, we propose methods for. the efficient management and integrity of groundwater in response to a diminishing supply. As an alternative water resource for the future. we investigated and comparatively analyzed the quality standards of groundwater in the US (New York, Wisconsin and Texas), Austria, Netherlands, Canada, Japan and United Kingdom. These developed countries heavily depend on groundwater, more than 70%, for drinking water and apply those drinking water standards to groundwater quality. However, there exists few differences in the quality standards of groundwater among the countries, because each country possesses its own individual environment and management. In Korea, surface water pollution is getting serious and its water resources are diminishing. Therefore we propose several new quality criteria that many countries regulate at these days for their efficient management of groundwater. There is a need to divide BTEX criterion into Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylene, individually. In. addition, it is needed to establish BTEX criteria into agricultural water and industrial water use standards as well as daily life use standards. Also, regulations for some PAHs, showing carcinogenicity, are required. Due to rapid industrialization various hazardous chemicals were utilized and their uses are increasing each year. Therefore, there is a strong need to introduce n~w standards and tighter regulations of the levels. At the same time, the criterion of nitrogenous compounds need' to be regulated individually in order to prevent the damage incurred by the compounds. Several developed countries have established standards for radon, previously caused environmental accidents in Korea. Therefore, we propose the necessity of groundwater quality standards for radon in this study.

A CLINICAL STUDY OF FRONTAL BONE FRACTURE (전두부 골절 환자의 임상적 연구)

  • Fracture of frontal bone is infrequent, but may have serious complications because of their proximity to the brain, eyes and noses. Fractures of the frontal area range from 5% to 15% of all facial bone fracture and include supraorbital rim and frontal sinus. As frontal bone fractures most frequently occur in the multiply injured patient, a thorough clinical and radiological examination of the patient is required before diagnosis and treatment plans are established. Sometimes coorperative treatment with other department is required. It is specially considered that incision for access to frontal region and surgical methods for open reduction, cranialization, cannulization, sinus obliteration. After surgical or conservative treatment, it may have complication. Complication of frontal bone injury vary in severity and may occur at several years after the incidents. The major types of complications are those that occur directly at the time of injury, infection and chronic problems. This is clinical study on 31 patients with frontal bone fracture, at department of oral and maxillofacial surgery in dental hospital of Wonkwang university during past ten years. The results were as follows; 1. The sex ratio of all patients is 29 (94%) male to 2 (6%) female, the average age is 33 and the prominent groups are 2nd, 3rd decade age. 2. The causative factors are mostly traffic accident 22 cases (70%) and fall dawn, industrial accidents, so on. 3. The 17 cases has shown alert mental status, but neurologic problems is in 14 (45%) cases in initial accessment. 4. Associated facial bone fractures are prominent in the maxilla (42%) and panfacial fracture (39%). 5. Involved general problems are in department of neurologic surgery problems (65%), orthopaedic problems (23%) and ophthalmologic problems (19%) in order. 6. Open reduction has done in 15 cases and 16 cases with conservative management. 7. Postoperative complications are chronic headache (42%), esthetic problems (39%) and ophthalmologic problems (35%)in order.

  • A comprehensive safety management system will be required in accordance with the implementation of the Major Disaster Punishment Act for close-up safety management of construction sites. Safety management level evaluation management requires a comprehensive relationship between safety management under the Construction Technology Promotion Act and health and health management system under the Industrial Safety and Health Act. Purpose: Safety under the Serious Accidents Punishment Act. The ultimate goal is to study the comprehensive analysis and relationship of health management and to improve the safety evaluation level of health and health management. Methods: The feasibility of the questionnaire was confirmed through the second Delphi analysis of construction site experts and safety managers, and the regression coefficient and path analysis of potential variants in safety management, safety management, health management and safety inspection were confirmed. Result and Conclusion: In the structural model, the regression coefficient (89%) from safety management, health system, and safety management to safety inspection execution and lambda values of appropriate observation variables were confirmed. In the path analysis, the total effect (.809) was confirmed by mediating health hygiene in the relationship between health plan establishment adequacy and post-inspection management, and the path coefficient (.82) of temporary structure safety was confirmed.

  • As the significance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management amplifies in driving sustainable growth, this study delves into and compares ESG trends and interrelationships from both corporate and societal viewpoints. Employing a combination of Latent Dirichlet Allocation Topic Modeling (LDA) and Semantic Network Analysis, we analyzed sustainability reports alongside corresponding social media datasets. Additionally, an in-depth examination of social media content was conducted using Joint Sentiment Topic Modeling (JST), further enriched by Semantic Network Analysis (SNA). Complementing text mining analysis with the assistance of ChatGPT, this study identified 25 different ESG topics. It highlighted differences between companies aiming to avoid risks and build trust, and the general public's diverse concerns like investment options and working conditions. Key terms like 'greenwashing,' 'serious accidents,' and 'boycotts' show that many people doubt how companies handle ESG issues. The findings from this study set the foundation for a plan that serves key ESG groups, including businesses, government agencies, customers, and investors. This study also provide to guide the creation of more trustworthy and effective ESG strategies, helping to direct the discussion on ESG effectiveness.

Environmental Impact Assessment and Evaluation of Environmental Risks (환경영향평가와 환경위험의 평가)

  • In former times the protection of our environment didn't play an important role due to the fact that emissions and effluents were not considered as serious impacts. However, opinions and scientific measurements meanwhile confirmed that the impacts are more serious than expected. Thus measures to protect our earth has to be taken into consideration. A part of these measures in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). One of the most important parts of the EIA is the collection of basic datas and the following evaluation. Experience out of the daily business of Gerling Consulting Group shows that the content of the EIA has to be revised and enlarged in certain fields. The historical development demonstrated that in areas in which the population and the industrial activities reached high concentration there is a high necessity to develop strict environmental laws and regulations. Maximum values of the concentration of hazardous materials were fixed concerning the emission into and water. Companies not following these regulations were punished. The total amount of environmental offences increased rapidly during the last decade, at least in Germany. During this development the public consciousness concerning environmental affairs increased as well in the industrialized countries. But it could clearly be seen that the development in the field of environmental protection went into the wrong direction. The technologies to protect the environment became more and more sophisticated and terms as: "state of the art" guided more and more to lower emissions, Filtertechnologies and wastewater treatment for example reached a high technical level-but all these sophisticated technologies has one and the same characteristic: they were end-of-the pipe solutions. A second effect was that this kind of environmental protection costs a lot of money. High investments are necessary to reduce the dust emission by another ppm! Could this be the correct way? In Germany the discussion started that the environmental laws reduce the attractivity to invest or to enlarge existing investments within the country. Other countries seem to be not so strict with controlling the environmental laws which means it's simply cheaper to produce in Portugal or Greece. Everybody however knows that this is not the correct way and does not solve the environmental problems. Modern actual environmental management starts in a different way. Thoughts about emissions start in the very beginning of the production, they start with the design of the product and modification of traditional modes of production. Basis of these ideas are detailed analyses of products and processes. Due to the above mentioned facts that the public environmental consciousness changed dramatically a continous environmental improvement of each single production plant has to be guarantied. This question is already an important question of the EIA. But it was never really checked in a wholistic approach. Environmental risks have to be taken into considerations during the execution of an EIA. This means that the environmental risks have to be reduced down to a capable risk-level. Environmental risks have to be considered within the phase of planning, during the operation of a plant and after shut down. The experience shows that most of the environmental relevant accidents were and caused by human fault. Even in highly protected plants the human risk-factor can not be excluded during evaluation of the risk-potential. Thus the approach of an EIA has to regard technical evaluations as well as organizational thoughts and the human factor. An environmental risk is a threat to the environment. An analysis of the risk concerning the organizational and human aspect however never was properly executed during an EIA. A possible solution could be to use an instrument as the actual EMAS (Environmental Management System) of the EC for more accurate evaluation of the impact to the environment during an EIA. Organizations or investors could demonstrate by an approved EMAS or even by showing their installment of EMAS that not only the technical level of the planned investment meets the requested standards but as well the actual or planned management is able to reduce the environmental impact down to a bearable level.

Development of a Dynamic Offtracking Model on Horizontal Curve Sections (Based on Articulated Vehicles) (도로 평면곡선부에서 동적궤도이탈모형 개발에 관한 연구 (굴절차량을 중심으로))

  • Dislike the tangent sections, the horizontal curve sections of roads should be designed, considering several factors : one of such factors is widening. In other words, since widening results from that when a vehicle runs on the horizontal curve sections, the rear wheels of the vehicle run not along with tracks of the front wheels but out of that, such offtracking should be exactly investigated and reflected in design of the curve sections. Especially in the case of industrial roads which semi-trailers and large trucks run frequently or arterial roads with small curve radiuses in mountainous regions. serious offtracking Phenomenons result in increasing the risk of accidents. decreasing the capacities and jeopardizing pedestrians' safety on the curve sections. For the offtracking, widening amounts of roads has been determined under the traditional presumption that vehicles run at a low speed and there is no superelevation. In fact, however, since the vehicles run at a high speed as well as at a low speed and the superelevation is installed on the horizontal curve sections in the structural aspect of roads, the existing standards for installing widening have a limitation to reflect exactly actual Phenomenons. In particular, for articulated wheel axles of a tractor and a trailer and long articulated vehicles, not only the offtracking degree is very high but also the interpretation shows different aspects from one of single axles. Comparing and reviewing the results of Korean and foreign studies related to the trailer offtracking model theory and the standards for installing widening, this study developed a realistic dynamic offtracking model which considers geometric structures of roads and speeds of vehicles, suggested how to measure widening with this model and examined applicability of the model. The findings of this study are as follows ; First. a dynamic offtracking model. which considers dynamic movements of a tractor and a trailer and the superelevation, was developed. Second, a new method to measure widening with the developed dynamic offtracking model was developed and a method to measure widening with swept path width was suggested as well. Finally, validity of the current standards for installing widening was examined by determining actual offtracking and widening amounts with the developed model and the applicability was investigated through the case studies. Compared with the existing offtracking models, the dynamic offtracking model developed in this study can reflect practically vehicle speed. dimension and geometric structural aspects of roads. In conclusion, the meaning of this study is that it reviews validity of the current standards for installing widening and provides a base to establish such standards by suggesting new methods to measure the widening with this dynamic offtracking model.

Relationship between Sleep Insufficiency and Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (수면 부족과 과도한 주간졸림증의 관련성)

  • Objectives:Sleep loss and excessive daytime sleepiness may have serious consequences, including traffic and industrial accidents, decreased productivity, learning disabilities and interpersonal problems. Yet despite these adverse effects, there are few epidemiological studies on sleep loss and daytime sleepiness in the general population of Korea. This study investigates the number of people who suffer from sleep insufficiency, how much recovery sleep occurs on weekends, and the relationship between the amount of recovery sleep and daytime sleepiness. Methods:A total 164 volunteers, aged 20 and over, were recruited by advertisement. The subjects were workers and college students living in Seoul, Korea. Subjects were excluded if they were aged over 60;if they had medical, neurological, psychiatric or sleep disorders that could cause insomnia or daytime sleepiness;if they were not following a regular sleep schedule;if they traveled abroad during the study;or if they did not leave home to work or were shift workers. They were interviewed and given a sleep log to complete on each of 14 consecutive mornings. They also completed the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) at noontime on the last day of the second week. All statistical data were analyzed by t-test, $X^2$-test or ANOVA, using SPSS/PC+. Results:The results showed that the subjects woke up at 6:50 (${\pm}1$:16) on weekdays, 7:09 (${\pm}1$:29) on Saturdays, and 8:12 (${\pm}1$:39) on Sundays and holidays. They took more frequent and longer naps on Sundays than on weekdays and Saturdays. The mean sleep duration was 6h 35 min. on week nights, with a mean increase of about 1h on weekends. Only 9.1% of the subjects spent more than 8h in bed on week nights, with 67% spending less than 7h, and 49.4% reported recovery sleep of more than 1h on Sundays. The subjects who reported recovery sleep of more than 2h on Sundays, showed significantly more excessive daytime sleepiness than those who reported less than 30 min (F=2.62, p<.05). Conclusions:These findings suggest that sleep insufficiency and excessive daytime sleepiness are relatively common in Korea, and that the people who get insufficient sleep on weekdays try to compensate for sleep loss with oversleeping and daytime napping on Sundays and holidays. It appeared that daily sleep insufficiency had a cumulative effect and increased daytime sleepiness.

Christian Sabbath and Christian Education in the Era of 'Life Crisis' ('생명 위기'의 시대, 기독교의 안식, 그리고 기독교교육)

  • The author considers that contemporary society has entered the era of 'life on earth in peril' as a very serious situation in comparison with the past, and assumes that this life-in-peril situation, known as 'life crisis,' is one of the most urgent and important issues in Christian education as well as in public education. This urgency and importance is mainly based on the belief that Christianity is the religion of life that values all living beings' life and all Christians have the sacred vocation to cope with this crisis of life on earth, given by the life-giving God. For this reason, this study aims at identifying some tasks that Christian education should perform in the era of imperiled life, premising that diverse life-threatening situations and circumstances in today's world are closely related to the Christian Sabbath. More specifically, first of all, this article analyzes some notable phenomena of the life crisis in the contemporary world, such as deaths from intentional self-harm (suicides), deaths from industrial accidents and disasters, the real-life situation of vulnerable populations, people's indifference and insensitivity to the situation, and natural environmental degradation, by reflecting on current global issues as well as issues in Korea. This paper also criticizes neoliberalism, productivism, consumerism, economic materialism, egotism, and anthropocentrism as ideologies for causing these phenomena. After the criticism, the author interprets, from biblical and theological perspectives on the Christian Sabbath, main purposes and meanings of the Sabbath for contemporary society that are deeply connected with the crisis of life on earth: confessing that God takes the initiative to govern every creature's living and being; building the relationship with the God who has given the power of life to all living beings; practicing the Sabbath rest by living a holy life; and participating in the Sabbath rest as 'life-giving ministry.' In conclusion, this article suggests Christian educational practices that confront the life crisis, rooted in the purposes and meanings of the Christian Sabbath: reminding participants of the belief that God is the source of life on earth; cultivating 'life literacy'; helping people to resist the crisis of life; and encouraging humans to pursue the well-being and peace of both humanity and the earth.
