  • This paper will analysis the Jam-O-Drum developed for collaborative musical experience at first. And we suggest the multi-user interactive game system Kom-O-Drum(Korean Jam-O-Drum) as a Serious Game Platform By combining velocity, direction and touch sensitive input devices like a korea traditional drum "Jang Go" and computer graphics imagery into an LCD or PDP display up to four simultaneous players are able to participate in a collaborative approach to game's mission. Also we introduce the design of detail input device and application fields of Kom-O-Drum for Serious Game.

  • The purpose of Serious games in immersive Metaverse platform to provide users both fun and intriguing learning experiences. We proposes a serious game for self-trainable fire evacuation drill with collaboration among avatars synchronized with multiple trainees and optionally with real-time supervising placed at different remote physical locations. The proposed system architecture is composed of wearable motion sensors and a Head Mounted Display to synchronize each user's intended motions to her/his avatar activities in a cyberspace in Metaverse environment. The proposed system provides immersive as well as inexpensive environments for easy-to-use user interface for cyber experience-based fire evacuation training system. The proposed configuration of the user-avatar interface, the collaborative learning environment, and the evaluation system on the VR serious game are expected to be applied to other serious games. The game was implemented only for the predefined fire scenario for buildings, but the platform can extend its configuration for various disaster situations that may happen to the public.

  • This paper deals with the elderly serious game design which makes full use of the existing arcade game machine. This serious game is on the issue for its positive role recently. Serious arcade game for the elderly which is made up arcade platform-based combined contents manufacture technology has an element which is having a fun for building up physical and mental health. It also has a special objective which can prevent against senile dementia. Above-mentioned serious arcade game which has a special objective in both hardware part and software part is needed to study how to design. Accordingly, this paper presents how to make up special-purpose entertainment machine and contents development by biologic, social, and psychological researches and data about the elderly - main users.   • According to the Infant Educational Law, learning of the children are encouraged through playing, but there are not many tools to learn. Educational Serious Game is a game developed for the purpose of learning. And so, in this paper, we produced serious games for education learning for young children. Contents of the game is the digestive system. And we utilized touch and drag which are kinds of intuitive interface of the mobile platform being able to play easy. At the end of each stage, and it contained a scene that can learn the characteristics of the digestive system. After producing this game, we supplemented something that is inadequate through testing. In addition, the learning effect of the game was confirmed by interviews with the teachers. We hope this will be a fun and informative game for the digestive tract to the children.

  • This paper introduces an educational game development method for the purpose of designing game as part of school curriculum activities, base on experimental case of making history learning game for private elementary schools in Korea. Our first approach was to define a game as a educational learning tool like any other media and mediating platform such as smart phones or other applications. We regard user as a player, and students as a end user and decision making-customers. Unlike other game development process we brought service design methode to the development process, making a game platform that is specially designed for teachers' teaching tool, which is easy and effective to use to ther subject of teacher's intention. Based on our research case, we suggest educational games development methodology which can be better suited for games with school curriculum in learning environment.

  • Recently, some games with physical and mental healing function are released. The healing games tend to make people relax. With the features of simple healing contents, the healing games provide users psychological stability more than strong stimulus. The games don't give users continuous excitement, so the popularity of the games goes down soon. In this paper, we investigate domestic and international healing games on the basis of the platform, such as mobile, console and PC. We analyze the feature of healing games with the four keys to fun(Hard Fun, Easy Fun, Serious Fun, People Fun) suggested by Nicole Lazzro. By this analysis, we find how much of the 4 keys to fun the games include and the correlation between the 4 keys to fun and the popularity of the healing games.

  • Casual games are easy in terms of control and mode, and thus everyone can enjoy them in their free time. Character games, in particular, feature a variety of cute and attractive characters. Such character games are now available for smartphones, which are used by a large number of users, as well as for PCs. This paper is aimed at demonstrating the design of 2D side-scrolling casual shooting games utilizing Unity 3D Engine, which can be manipulated on smartphones. Unity 3D engine was used because it supports multi-platform with low costs, and it makes it possibile for games to be operated on various platforms using a single program source code. This approach is unique because the design of the games uses cute characters, attractive concepts and easy control, targeting users in their 10s or 20s, unlike existing shooting games that are serious.

  • This study aims to extract additional elements to the existing game value evaluation using Delphi technique to 23 game experts. As a result of reviewing the characteristics of the development model using the evaluation model of the existing game contents, it was found that the evaluation factor was selected when selecting the content. The Delphi analysis was conducted two times, the first was the expert FGI and the second was the Delphi questionnaire. More detailed elements were presented in the related items such as results, technology transfer and dissemination, and details for promoting commercialization. Through focus group interviews, we extracted additional factors and predicted market size, growth potential, regulatory and market appeal and risk through market analysis of content success in the game industry. This will allow the industry to understand market size, growth potential, regulation, market appeal and risk through a market analysis of its success targets. This study suggests that the proposed evaluation factors can be applied to the entire game and cultural contents industry and will also help to construct market factors such as market value evaluation of contents, goal and goal setting, selection of entry method, and strategic factors.

VR Contents Design using Tangible Interaction (Tangible Interaction을 활용한 가상현실 콘텐츠 디자인에 관한 연구)

  • This paper studied tangible interaction design of VR platform and its applications that are economic In development process and cost, flexible by contents and installation conditions, and that has business potential for consumer market. The design solution uses video based virtual world and tangible interaction by motion tracking. Our platform enables a user to monitor their action and to collaborate with other users of remote place within attractive interaction feedback. We developed two design applications, Glass Xylophone 2003 and VR Class, in our platform. Glass Xylophone 2003 provides interactive music performance and helps self practice of glass xylophone. VR Class gives more serious distance learning experience with tutoring and group collaboration. They are presented in public exhibitions and tested by exhibition visitors. They showed application potential of this design solution in interactive game, distance learning, and entertainment field.

An Exploratory Study on Domestic Mobile Games and In-app Payment Fees (국내 모바일 게임 및 인앱 결제 수수료 적정성에 대한 탐색적 연구)

  • The mobile application (APP) market is growing at an unprecedented speed. Amid such growth, the global platform providers are mandating exclusive in-app payments and charging 30% for platform commission fees. A serious tension has arisen between mobile global platform providers and local content providers. The present study attempts to analyze the domestic mobile game market and in-app payment commission fees. This study estimates the size of the domestic mobile game market and platform commission fees by directly using publicly available financial statements and footnote information of some representative listed mobile game firms. Also, the study analyzes the cost structures of the same sample firms and attempts to draw some implications on sustainable growths of the mobile game ecosystem. We estimated that, in 2019, the domestic mobile game market is around 4.9 trillion Won and the ensuing in-app payment commission fees market was 1.5 trillion Won. High market share firms display a proportional increase in in-app payment commission fees in relation to sales growth. This, in turn, makes the in-app payment commission fees a primary cost item far exceeding employee salaries and R&D expenses. During the same period, low market share firms generated a mere profit or experienced net loss. Analysis of the cost structure reveals that these firms are even more liable to higher in-app payment commission fee cost structure than high market share. Most constituents of the mobile game ecosystem are small business entrepreneurs. By employing a micro-level analysis, the study estimates that, in 2019, a representative median firm generates 530 million Won in sales. At the same time, it spends 190 million Won in employee salaries, 50 Won million in R&D and 190 million Won in in-app payment commission fees, respectively. In the absence of other cost items, these three cost items alone account for 73.8% of sales revenue. The results imply that a sustainable growth of the local mobile game market heavily depends upon the cost structure of such representative median firm, the in-app payment commission fees being the primary cost item of such firm.
