  • It has become interested in the concept of permeable barriers for the containment and/or destruction of contaminated groundwater. The purpose of these trench-like barriers is to provide in situ capture and possibly destruction of the contaminant while preserving groundwater flow to uncontaminated zones. For instance, a trichloreethylene(TCE) plume may be contained by a permeable in which reactive iron reduces TCE to ethylene and ethane, compounds which can be easily biodegraded. The objective of this research is to examine the feasibility of using zero-valent iron as a clean-up media in permeable reactive barrier system. A series of laboratory column tests are performed. The concentration of influent and effluent water and the rate of clean up are analysed from these test results. The experimental result shows that the majority of the contamination in groundwater is removed in the reactor. And it shows the corresponding increase in the concentration of chloride ions through the reactor. Results from this study indicate that permeable reactive barrier containing admixtures of zero-valent iron and other materials can effectively clean up groundwater contaminated with organic compounds.

  • The matrix-type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) using YBCO thin film consists of the trigger and current-limiting parts. We fabricated the matrix-type SFCL with the integrated current limiting modules. we carried out the experiment of matrix-type SFCL with the integrated current limiting modules connected in series or parallel. We saw current characteristics due to ratio of change the shunt resistance and turns. We confirmed that the difference of critical current between superconducting units was decreased by increment of current flowing into the reactor which applied the magnetic field into the superconducting units..

  • A series of microwave waste tire pyrolysis experiments were conducted using a lab-scale batch reactor to delineate the effects of microwave ouput power on the pyrolysis behavior of waste tire. As results of experiments, it was found that as the microwave output power was increased from 1.22 kW/kg to 2.26 kW/kg, the reaction temperature and oil yield increased significantly and the required time and microwave power consumption decreased remarkably, respectively. With increased power consumption, the content of the fixed carbon of pyrolysis residue increased.

  • The current-fed DC-DC converter, which is known as the most stable DC-DC converter, has a two-winding reactor in series with the input. In this paper the new multi-output DC-DC converter circuit, in which the 2nd winding of the reactor is creating the 2nd output, while the 2nd winding is feeding the energy to input in the current-fed converter, is proposed. The steady state characteristics of the new circuit are clarified. And it is found that the maximum value exists in the 2nd output.

  • New generation nuclear reactors are designed using advanced safety analysis methods. A thorough understanding of different interacting physical phenomena is necessary to avoid underestimation and overestimation of consequences of off-normal transients in the reactor safety analysis results. This feature requires a multiphysics reactor simulation model. In this context, a coupled dynamics model based on a multiphysics formulation is developed indigenously for the transient analysis of large pressurized VVER reactors. Major simplifications are employed in the model by making several assumptions based on the physics of individual phenomenon. Space and time grids are optimized to minimize the computational bulk. The capability of the model is demonstrated by solving a series of international (AER) benchmark problems for VVER reactors. The developed model was used to analyze a number of reactivity transients that are likely to occur in VVER reactors.

  • The current-fed DC-DC converter has only one energy storage reactor in series with the input for any number of outputs and is insensitive to transformer volt-second unbalance. It is considered that these properties of the converter are considerable advantages over other maltiple-output circuits. The steady-state and dynamic characteristic and stability for the current-fed DC-DC con-verter are analyzed in detail. The analysis is carried out by the state-space averaging method for the operation with the duty ratio less than 50% and is confirmed by the experiment. From the evaluation of stability it is identified that the stability of this converter is excellent as compared with that of the conventional buck type converter.

  • Severe accidents in PWRs are characterized by a continuously changing geometry of the core due to chemical reactions, melting and mechanical failure of the rods and other structures. These local variations of the porosity and other parameters lead to multi-dimensionnal flows and heat transfers. In this paper, a comprehensive set of multi-dimensionnal models describing heat transfers, thermal-hydraulics and melt relocation in a reactor vessel is presented. Those models are suitable for the core description during a severe accident transient. A series of applications at the reactor scale shows the benefits of using such models.

  • In the System-integrated modular advanced reactor(SMART), the motor for Control element drive mechanism(CEDM) requires high density power and simple drive mechanism to reduce volume because of restriction by install-space and must satisfy the reactor operating circumstances with high pressure and temperature. To Maximize the characteristics of the TFM, we chose the asymmetric bridge converter as the driving system for TFM. Because two switching devices are connected in series with the stator winding of each phases in the asymmetric bridge converter all the phases are not affected by another phase but controlled independently. Also, this converter has many advantages that the various control methods can be adopted, it is easy to control, and that in case that the switching devices of a phase are damaged, the affects can be minimized.

The 2nd output voltage regulation is performed by using regulation IC. As a result, we have achieved good regulation characteristics.

  • In this paper, a new continuously and linearly controlled capacitive static VAR compensator is proposed for the automatic power factor correction of inductive single phase loads in 220V 50Hz power system networks. The compensator is constructed of a harmonic-suppressed TCR equipped with a new adaptive current controller. The harmonic-suppressed TCR is a new configuration that includes a thyristor controlled reactor (TCR) shunted by a passive third harmonic filter. In addition, the parallel configuration is connected to an AC source via a series first harmonic filter. The harmonic-suppressed TCR is designed so that negligible harmonic current components are injected into the AC source. The compensator is equipped with a new adaptive closed loop current controller, which responds linearly to reactive current demands. The no load operating losses of this compensator are negligible when compared to its capacitive reactive current rating. The proposed system is validated on PSpice which is very close in terms of performance to real hardware.
