  • In this paper, two general methods using time-series analysis in the functional separation of the myoelectric signal of human arm movements are developed. Autocorrelation, covariance method and sequential least squares algorithm were used to determine the model parameters and the order of signal model to describe six arm movement patterns` the forearm flexion and extension, the wrist pronation and supination, rotation-in and rotation-out. The confidence interval to classify the functions of arm movement was defined by the mean and standard deviation of total squared error. With the error signals of autoregressive(AR) model, the result showed that the highest success rate was obtained in the case of 4th order, and success rate was decreased with increase of order. Autocorrelation was the method of choice for better success rate. This technique might be applied to biomedical and rehabilitation engineering.

  • A Problem of relevant interest to some industries is that of obtaining optimum two-dimensional layout. To solve this provlem, one is given a number of rectangular sheets and an order for a specified number of each of certain types of two-dimensional regular and irregular shapes. The aim is to cut the the shapes out of the sheets in such a way as to minimize the amount of waste produced. A DCS (Distributed Control System) is an integrated system which applies the decentralization concept to a control system handling both sequential and analog control. A DCS performs many operations such as data gathering, data processing, data storing and monitoring the operatin conditions for the operator. IN this paper, we propose a genetic algorithm based on rotation parameters from which the best pattern of layout is found as well as a layout method for better performance time. A DCS for the plate cutting process system, which is performed by a virtual system, is also identified.

  • This paper proposes an efficient method of implementing the generalized Hough transform (GHT), which has been hindered by an excessive computing load and a large memory requirement. The conventional algorithm requires a parameter space of 4 dimensions in detection a rotated, scaled, and translated object in an input image. Prior to the application of GHT to the input image, the proposed method determines the angle of rotation and the scaling factor of the test image using the proportion of the edge components between the reference image and test image. With the rotation angle and the scaling factor already determined, the parameter spaceis to be reduced to a simple array of 2 dimensions by applying the unit GHT only one time. The experiments with the image of airplanes reveal that both of the computing time and the requires memory size are reduced by 95 percent, without any degradatationof accuracy, compared with the conventional GHT algorithm.

  • The magnetic and magneto-optical properties of Ni/Pt multilayers exhibiting square Kerr hysterisis loops at room temperature were studied. Squared polar Kerr hysterisis loops at room temperature in Ni/Pt multilayer thin films were obtained for the samples prepared by sequential dc magnetron sputter deposition of nickel and platinum with tNi=13-21$\AA$ and tPt=3.5-7.5$\AA$. The coercivity of these multilayers was in the range of 400-1100 Oe. The saturation magnetization was found to show an inverse dependence on nickel sublyaer thickness. About a monolayer of Ni at interface was observed to behave less magnetically than the interior Ni atoms. The polar Kerr rotation exhibited an increasing trend with decreasing wavelength in the spectral range of 7000-4000 $\AA$. The maximum of polar Kerr rotation was found to shift to higher wavelengths with increase in nickel sublayer thickness.

  • Transmit(Tx)/Receive(Rx) dual band operation microstrip array for X-band satellite communications are designed, fabricated, and measured in this paper. The microstrip array antenna has Right Handed Circular Polarization(RHCP) for Tx band and Left Hand Circular Polarization(LHCP) for Rx band. Two stacked patches are used for wideband characteristics and corner-truncated square patches are adopted for a circular polarization. To enhance bandwidth characteristics of a circular polarization, $2{\times}2$ sequential rotation array are applied. From the measured result, $8{\times}12$ microstrip array antennas have a good agreement with those of the simulation. Therefore the array antennas are applicable to military satellite communication antennas.

  • In this paper, a low-power frequency offset synchronization structure using CORDIC algorithm is proposed. Main blocks of frequency offset synchronization are estimation and compensation block. In the proposed frequency offset estimation block, implementation area is reduced by using sequential CORDIC, and throughput is accelerated by using 2 step CORDIC. In the proposed frequency offset compensation block, pipeline CORDIC is utilized for area reduction and high speed processing. Through MatLab simulation, function for proposed structure is verified. Proposed frequency offset synchronization structure is implemented by Verilog-HDL coding and implementation area is estimated by Synopsys logic synthesis tool.

  • A microstrip array antenna is designed and tested for satellite broadcasting receptions. The Sierpinski equilateral triangular patch and SSFIP(slotstripfoaminverted patch) structures are used. The Sierpinski geometry is composed of 3 equilateral triangular patch and is easy to generate a circular polarization by sequential rotation array techniques. This 1${\times}$3 Sierpinski equilateral triangular patch antenna is extended to 8${\times}$2 array antenna for satellite broadcasting receptions. The measurement results of the reflection coefficients and the radiation patterns of the manufactured array antenna show good agreements with the simulation results.

  • In the total knee arthroplasty (TKA), kinematic benefic of a mobile-bearing total knee prosthesis is still arguing. Main reasons for implant failure are loosening and polyethylene wear and should be solved with new designs with mob ile bearings. The kinematics of the knee prosthesis also affects the implant failure. Recently, a second generation of p rostheses with a mobile-bearing was developed. The current study aimed to assess the kinematic path of the 2nd generation mobile knee prosthesis compared to the normal knees. Using 3D/2D registration method, CT-derived 3D knee models were fitted to sequential 2D X-ray images during knee flexion. 3D kinematics of the femur and the tibia were analyzed. The 2nd generation mobile-bearing TKA prosthesis (e.motion, Aesculap, Germany) knees showed less external rotation and knee flexion range compared to the normal knee, but the trend of external rotation was similar each other.

  • We propose the new method for the traffic signs recognition that is one of the DAS(Driving assistance system) in the intelligent vehicle. Our approach estimates a varied degree by using a geometric method from the varied traffic signs in noise, rotation and size, and extracts the recognition symbol from the compensated traffic sign for a recognition by using the sequential color-based clustering. This proposed clustering method classify the traffic sign into the attention, regulation, indication, and auxiliary class. Also, The circular tracing method is used for the final traffic sign recognition. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, varied traffic signs were built. As a result, The proposed method show that the 95 % recognition rate for a single variation, and 93 % recognition rate for a mixed variation.
