The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tissue response in various bone grafting materials, especially xenogenous bone materials in vivo, compare of bone formation capacity of various bone grafting materials on rat skull defects and evaluate the effect of Hyaluronic acid on healing of human Demineralized Freezed Dried Bone allogenous graft (DFDBA) materials in rat calvarial defects. 30 Sprague-Dawly rats were divided into 4 groups. $7{\times}7mm$ size bony defect were artificially prepared in the calvaria (both parietal bone) of all 30 rats and follwed group grafting of autogenous bone graft on right side and allogenic DFDBA on left side bone graft (rat DFDB) in 15 control group, but in 15 experimental group, xenograft (human DFDB) on left side, hyaluronic acid treated with xenograft on right side. Sequential sacrifices was performed at 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 weeks of experiment. These specimens were stained with H&E and MT stain, and then histologic analysis under light microscope was carried out. There were inflammatory reaction in all graft material during early stage. Autogenous and Allogenous DFDBA graft group observed inflammatory reaction at 1 week. Xenograft group persistant inflammatory reaction until 4 weeks, but in HA treated xenograft group inflammatory reaction was decreased at 2 weeks. Osteoblastic activity in control group was begun at 2 week, xenograft group was delayed at 6 weeks, however HA treated xenograft group was begun at 4 weeks. At 2 week, mild osteoclastic activity were observed in all xenograft group not in concerned to HA, but there was no difference each group after 4 weeks. There are most activated angiogenesis around graft mateirals in xenograft group at 2 weeks, but in HA treated xenograft group, decreased angiogenesis was observed at same time. Bone formation and bone maturation of xenograft group, there was no difference in HA treatment, was less than control group. Fibrosis around xenograft materials were observed until 6 weeks, there was no difference between xenograft and HA treated groups.
A laser ablation-molecular beam/reflectron time-of-flight mass spectrometric technique was used to investigate the ion-molecule reactions that proceed within $Ti^+(CH_3COCH_3)_n$ heterocluster ions. The reactions of $Ti^+$ with $CH_3COCH_3$ clusters were found to be dominated exclusively by an oxidation reaction, which produced $TiO^+(CH_3COCH_3)_n$ clusters. These ions were attributed to the insertion of a $Ti^+$ ion into the C=O bond of the acetone molecule within the heteroclusters, followed by $C_3H_6$ elimination. The mass spectra also indicated the formation of minor sequences of heterocluster ions with the formulas $Ti^+(C_3H_4O)(CH_3COCH_3)_n$ and $TiO^+(OH)(CH_3COCH_3)_n$, which could be attributed to C-H bond insertion followed by $H_2$ elimination and to the sequential OH abstraction by the $TiO^+$ ion, respectively. Density functional theory calculations were carried out to model the structures and binding energies of both the association complexes and the relevant reaction products. The reaction pathways and energetics of the $TiO^+\;+\;CH_2CHCH_3$ product channel are presented.
Sorption experiments of $^{60}$ Co, $^{85}$ Sr. and $^{137}$ Cs onto sandstone particles in a batch were carried out to investigate the migration mobility. Sorption kinetics and reversibility as well as sorption mechanisms were examined. Sorption reaction occurred mostly within 10 hours on the outer surface of the sandstone particle but diffusion into the inner surface of the mineral has still occurred after that time. In order to distinguish sorption types of radionuclides, a sequential chemical extraction was introduced. The sorbed radionuclides were then extracted by applying different solutions of synthetic groundwater, CaCl$_2$, KCl and KOX-HA Especially KCl is adopted to extract the ion-exchanged cesium. Sorption types considered are reversible sorption under groundwater condition, ion exchange, association with ferro-manganese oxides or oxyhydroxides, and irreversible fixation. Strontium sorbs onto the sandstone surface mainly by fast and reversible ion exchange reaction. However, cobalt and cesium do not sorb by simple process. The main sorptive binding of cobalt was the association with ferro-manganese oxides and the secondary one was irreversible fixation. Diffusion into the lattice of minerals controlled the sorption rate of cobalt The main sorptin type of cesium was irreversible fixation, while ion exchange reaction was the secondary importance. Hence the oreder of migration mobility for the three radionuclides was Sr$^{2+}$ > Co$^{2+}$ > Cs$^{+}$ in the sandstones.
By the in vitro combinatorial mutagenesis, which is a sequential reaction of PCR mutagenesis and in vitro coupled transcription/translation with Escherichia coli S30 extract, S65 and E222 of green fluorescent protein of Aequarea victoria were comprehensively changed to all possible combinations of amino acids, thus totally 400 mutant (including a wild type) proteins were simultaneously produced and their fluorescent properties were analyzed. Although a few mutations had been reported so far at the 222nd position, replacement E222 to all other19 amino acids gave fluorescent signal to the mutants by changing Ser 65 to Ala together. Among the mutants, replacement to G, A, S, Q, H and C gave relatively high fluorescence. The in vitro combinatorial mutagenesis, therefore, has been proved valuable for comprehensive structure-function studies of proteins.

We fabricated organic-inorganic superlattice films using molecular layer deposition (MLD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD). The MLD is a gas phase process in the vacuum like to atomic layer deposition (ALD) and also relies on a self-terminating surface reaction of organic precursor which results in the formation of a monolayer in each sequence. In the MLD process, 'Alucone' is very famous organic thin film fabricated using MLD. Alucone layers were grown by repeated sequential surface reactions of trimethylaluminum and ethylene glycol at substrate temperature of $80^{\circ}C$. In addition, we developed UV-assisted $Al_2O_3$ with gas diffusion barrier property better than typical $Al_2O_3$. The UV light was very effective to obtain defect-free, high quality $Al_2O_3$ thin film which is determined by water vapor transmission rate (WVTR). Ellipsometry analysis showed a self-limiting surface reaction process and linear growth of each organic, inorganic film. Composition of the organic films was confirmed by infrared (IR) spectroscopy. Ultra-violet (UV) spectroscopy was employed to measure transparency of the organic-inorganic superlattice films. WVTR is calculated by Ca test. Organic-inorganic superlattice films using UV-assisted $Al_2O_3$ and alucone have possible use in gas diffusion barrier for OLED.
A visible photochemistry of maleic to fumaric acid adsorbed on silver nanoparticle surfaces was investigated as probed by SERS using a simple flow method. Photoisomerization of maleic to fumaric acid was consecutively observed in the condition of various flow rates, which varied the exposure time of laser beam. The sequential SERS spectra of maleic acid indicated that the photochemical isomerization and desorption took place simultaneously on silver nanoparticle surfaces as a function of laser fluency and wavelength. For 530.9nm laser line excitation, the rate constant coefficients were obtained with a = 5.9 $sec^{-1}$ mW for isomerization and b = 13.9 $sec^{-1}$ mW for desorption, which $k_1\;=\;aI^n\;and\;k_2\;=\;bI^m$. Both reactions were one photon process (n = 1, m = 1) of a visible light and relatively fast process whose decay time was in the range of milli-second for 50 mW laser power. The rate of photochemical reaction increased on going toward the blue and photodesorption was a dominant process. A simple flow method used in this study was very useful to study a relatively fast photochemical reaction of molecules adsorbed on silver nanoparticle surfaces.
Pb-contaminated soil at a clay shooting range was analyzed by the sequential extraction method to identify metal binding properties in terms of detrital and non-detrital forms of the soil. Most of the metals in the soils existed as non-detrital forms, exchangeable and carbonate-bound forms, which could be easily released from the soil by a washing method. Therefore, the characteristics of Pb desorption for remediation of the Pb-contaminated soil were evaluated using hydrochloric acid (HCl) by a washing method. Batch experiments were performed to identify the factors influencing extraction efficiency. The effects of the solid to liquid (S/L) ratio (1:2, 1:3, and 1:4), soil particle size, and extraction time on the removal capacity of Pb by HCl were evaluated. Soil samples were collected from two different areas: a slope area (SA) and a land area (LA) at the field. As results, the optimal conditions at 2.8 to 0.075 mm of particle size were 1:3 of the S/L ratio and 10 min of extraction time for SA, and 1:4 of the S/L ratio and 5 min of extraction time for LA. The characteristics of Pb desorption were adequately described by two-reaction kinetic models.
Size-controlled lead sulfide (PbS) quantum dots were synthesized by the typical hot injection method using oleic acid (OA) as the stabilizing agent. Subsequently, the ligand exchange reaction between OA and thioacetic acid (TAA) was employed to obtain TAA-capped PbS quantum dots (PbS-TAA QDs). The condensation reaction of the TAA ligands on the surfaces of the QDs enhanced the conductivity of the PbS-TAA QDs thin films by about 2-4 orders of magnitude, as compared with that of the PbS-OA QDs thin films. The electron transport mechanism of the PbS-TAA QDs thin films was investigated by current-voltage (I-V) measurements at different temperatures in the range of 293 K-473 K. We found that the charge transport was due to sequential tunneling of charge carriers via the QDs, resulting in the thermally activated hopping process of Arrhenius behavior.
Implantation of demineralized bone matrices was done into the amputated pulp in vivo and sequential reaction of the pulpal ectomesenchymal cells was observed. The bone matrices, obtained from cat long bone were crushed into below $700{\mu}m$, demineralized with 0.5N HCl and allografted into pulp of molar teeth. At seven days after implantation many undifferentiated mesenchymal cells aggregated near the matrices in the pulpal tissue. At fourteen days after implantation, the cells differentiated into preosteoblast-like cells which have secretory cell characteristics. At one or two months after implantation osteoid tissue was formed. The cells, which are located at the surface of the tissue, contained abundant dilated rough endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus and secretory granules in the cytoplasm. The matrix of the tissue has less collagen fibers than those in normal dentin. These results suggest that the interaction of pulpal mesenchymal cells with demineralized bone matrix can be a model which induces mineralization.

Thermodynamic sorption modeling can enhance confidence in assessing and demonstrating the radionuclide sorption phenomena onto various mineral adsorbents. In this work, Ca-montmorillonite was successfully purified from Bentonil-WRK bentonite by performing the sequential physical and chemical treatments, and its geochemical properties were characterized using X-ray diffraction, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis, cesium-saturation method, and controlled continuous acid-base titration. Further, batch experiments were conducted to evaluate the adsorption properties of Cs(I) and Sr(II) onto the homoionic Ca-montmorillonite under ambient conditions, and the diffuse double layer model-based inverse analysis of sorption data was performed to establish the relevant surface reaction models and obtain corresponding thermodynamic constants. Two types of surface reactions were identified as responsible for the sorption of Cs(I) and Sr(II) onto Ca-montmorillonite: cation exchange at interlayer site and complexation with edge silanol functionality. The thermodynamic sorption modeling provides acceptable representations of the experimental data, and the species distributions calculated using the resulting reaction constants accounts for the predominance of cation exchange mechanism of Cs(I) and Sr(II) under the ambient aqueous conditions. The surface complexation of cationic fission products with silanol group slightly facilitates their sorption at pH > 8.
