Time-Optimal solutions for attitude control with reaction wheels as well as with thrusters are studied. The suggested varying-time-sharing ratio thrusting is found to reduce the maneuvering time enormously. The hybrid control such as sequential hybrid and simultaneous hybrid with reaction wheels and thrusters are considered. The results show that simultaneous hybrid method reduces the maneuver time very much. Spacecraft model is KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite(KOMPSAT)-II, which is being developed by KARI in KOREA as an agile maneuvering satellite.
The inrush current of a large inductive load can be reduced with a soft starter; however, the large inrush current caused by simultaneous bulk starts (SBSs) cannot be effectively reduced. In order to reduce the high inrush current and voltage sag owing to the SBSs of large capacity inductive loads within a power network, a novel hybrid sequential start control system is proposed, implemented on embedded systems, and evaluated with a testbed in this study. From the experimental and simulation results of the proposed control system, the inrush current could be effectively restricted below the maximum current capacity of a power distributing board. Moreover, with the proposed system, power cost typically dictated by the peak power consumption can be fairly reduced, and the quality of the power system connected to the inductive loads can be efficiently increased.

There have been several kinds of attempts to actively control the deflected noise behind the noise barrier. Omoto's work in 1993 would be one of the fundamental studies, where he placed the control sources uniformly parallel to the noise barrier. Following this study, Yang pointed that the average distance between the noise source and control sources is more important than the arrangement of control sources such as a straight line or an arc type distribution. In 2004, Baek tried to show optimal arrangement of control sources while keeping the average distance between the noise source and control sources. He used simulated annealing algorithm which is one of the natural algorithms for the selections of optimal control source positions, but the searching technique was a hybrid of the simulated annealing and the sequential searching to adapt to the vast amount of searching time. This study is about the performance comparison between the pure sequential searching and the hybrid one. The simulation results show very similar performance and a pure simulated annealing searching will be more beneficial for the noise reduction performance but at the cost of computing time.

Human motion analysis is researched as a new method for human-robot interaction (HRI) because it concerns with the key techniques of HRI such as motion tracking and pose recognition. To analysis human motion, extracting features of human body from sequential images plays an important role. After finding the silhouette of human body from the sequential images obtained by CCD color camera, the skeleton model is frequently used in order to represent the human motion. In this paper, using the silhouette of human body, we propose the feature extraction method based on hybrid skeleton for detecting human motion. Finally, we show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method through some experiments.

Autonomous mobile robots are required to achieve multiple goals while responding quickly to the dynamic environments. An appropriate robot control architecture, which clearly and systematically defines the relationship among the inputs, the processing functions and the outputs, thus needs to be embedded in the robot controller. This paper proposes a kind of hybrid control architecture which combines the key features of the two well-known robot control architectures; hierarchical and behavioral- based. The overall control architecture consists of three layers, i.e. the highest planner, the middle plan executor, and the lowest monitor and behavior-based controller. In the planned situation, only one behavior module is chosen by the logical coordinator in the plan executor according to the way point bin. In the exceptional situation, the central controller in the plan executor issues an additional control command to reach the planned way point. Several simulations and experiments with autonomous mobile robot show that the proposed architecture enables the robot controller to achieve the multiple sequential goals even in dynamic and uncertain environments.

There were many attempts to reduce noise behind the noise barrier using active control techniques. Omoto(1993) Shao(1997) and Yang(2001) tried to actively control the diffracted noise behind the barrier and main concerns were about the arrangement methods for the control sources. Baek (2004) tried to get better results using the simulated annealing method and the sequential searching technique. The main goal of this study is to develop and compare the performance of several optimization techniques including those mentioned above, hybrid version of simulated annealing and genetic algorithm for the optimal control source positions of active noise barrier system. The simulation results show fairly similar performance lot the small size of searching problem. However, as the number of control sources are increased, the performance of simulated annealing algorithm and genetic algorithm are better than the others. Simulations are also made to show the performance of the selected optimal control source positions not only at the receiver position but at the surrounding volume of the receiver position and plotted the noise reduction level in 3-D.
This paper presents a hybrid neural network system which used a Self-Organizing Map and Multilayer Perceptron for the problem of Malay syllables speech recognition. The novel idea in this system is the usage of a two-dimension Self-organizing feature map as a sequential mapping function which transform the phonetic similarities or acoustic vector sequences of the speech frame into trajectories in a square matrix where elements take on binary values. This property simplifies the classification task. An MLP is then used to classify the trajectories that each syllable in the vocabulary corresponds to. The system performance was evaluated for recognition of 15 Malay common syllables. The overall performance of the recognizer showed to be 91.8%.
By structural comparison of process optimization strategies based on Simultaneous Modular Approach, they can be classified into two groups : the Sequential Module Based Approach and the Two-Tier Approach. The Sequential Module Based Approach needs rigorous models and a set of accurate solutions are guranteed. However, it requires large amount of computation time. In the Two-Tier Approach composed of rigorous and simplified models, optimization calculation uses simplified models, therefore comparatively smaller amount of computation time is required but the obtained solutions may not be accurate. These optimization problems were somewhat improved by the alternate application of the two strategies. In this study, improved optimization strategy is suggested, in which Jacobian Matrix is modified to accomodate the strong points of above mentioned strategies. The results of case study show that this approach is superior to the other strategies.

A master-slave system for teleoperation is usually used to control the robor's motion on remote place such as abyss, outer space etc.. When the slave robot is a humanoid one, it can make a better performance if the configuration of the master arm is similar to that of the slave arm and of the human. The master arm proposed in this paper has a type to be put on the human arm, that is, the exoskeleton type, and has a combination of serial joint and parallel mechanism imitating the human's arm structure of muscles and bones, so called hybrid mechanism so that it can follow arm's movement effectively. But it is easy to solve the forward kinematis of the parallel structure because relating equations are implicit functions. In order to solve that, the virtual joint angle corresponding to human arm's joint is introduced and a sequential computation step is employed in calculating virtual joint angles and the posture of the end effector. Also validity is checked up through computational simulation.
The main cause of degradation in an unbalanced stand-alone doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) system is negative sequence components that exist in the generated stator voltages. To eliminate these components, a hybrid current controller composed of a proportional-integral controller and a resonant regulator is developed in this paper. The proposed controller is applied to the rotor-side converter of a DFIG system for the purpose of compensating the negative stator voltage sequences. The proposed current controller is implemented in a single positive rotating reference frame and therefore the controller can directly regulate both the positive and negative sequence components without the need for sequential decomposition of the measured rotor currents. In terms of compensation capability and accuracy, simulations and experimental results demonstrated the excellent performance of the proposed control method when compared to conventional vector control schemes.
