In this paper, we introduce a new property (*) of a topological space and prove that if X satisfies one of the following conditions (1) and (2), then compactness, countable compactness and sequential compactness are equivalent in X; (1) Each countably compact subspace of X with (*) is a sequential or AP space. (2) X is a sequential or AP space with (*).
Sequential test plans are characterized by decision rules for accepting or rejecting compliance, or continuing the test at my test time. They are determined by selected values of risks and discrimination ratio. The sequential test plans in the international standard such as MIL-HDBK-781A are based on the assumption that the underlying distribution of times between failures is exponential. In this paper, sequential test plans are extended to the Weibull distribution case. Simulation studies are performed to examine the reasonability in this extension.

To improve the accuracy of a metamodel, additional sample points can be selected by using a specified criterion, which is often called sequential sampling approach. Sequential sampling approach requires small computational cost compared to one-stage optimal sampling. It is also capable of monitoring the process of metamodeling by means of identifying an important design region for approximation and further refining the fidelity in the region. However, the existing critertia such as mean squared error, entropy and maximin distance essentially depend on the distance between previous selected sample points. Therefore, although sufficient sample points are selected, these sequential sampling strategies cannot guarantee the accuracy of metamodel in the nearby optimum points. This is because criteria of the existing sequential sampling approaches are inefficient to approximate extremum and inflection points of original model. In this research, new sequential sampling approach using the sensitivity of metamodel is proposed to reflect the response. Various functions that can represent a variety of features of engineering problems are used to validate the sensitivity approach. In addition to both root mean squared error and maximum error, the error of metamodel at optimum points is tested to access the superiority of the proposed approach. That is, optimum solutions to minimization of metamodel obtained from the proposed approach are compared with those of true functions. For comparison, both mean squared error approach and maximin distance approach are also examined.

Generating test patterns for asynchronous sequential circuits remains to be a very difficult problem. There are few algorithms for this problem, and previous works cut feedback loops, and insert synchronous flip-flops in the feedback loops during ATPG. The conventional algorithms are similar to the algorithms for synchronous sequential circuits. This means that the conventional algorithms generate test patterns by modeling asynchronous sequential circuits as synchronous sequential circuits. So, test patterns generated by those algorithms nay not detect target faults when the test patterns are applied to the asynchronous sequential circuit under test. In this paper an algorithm is presented to generate test patterns for asynchronous sequential circuits. Test patterns generated by the algorithm can detect target faults for asynchronous sequential circuits with the minimal possibility of critical race problem and oscillation. And it is guaranteed that the test patterns generated by the algorithm will detect target faults.

More often a commercial package for the structural analysis is necessary in the structural optimum design. In this case the task of combining the package with an optimization program must be required, hut it is not so simple because interchanging some data between them is difficult. Sequential approximate optimization is currently used as a natural way to overcome the hard task. If sequential approximate optimization has wide side constraints that the lower limit of design variables is very small and their upper limit is very large, it is not so easy to obtain approximated functions accurately for the whole design domain. This paper proposes a sequential design domain method, which is very useful to carry out sequential approximate optimization in this case. In this paper, the response surface methodology is used to obtain approximated functions and the orthogonal array is used for design of experiments. The sequential approximate optimization of 3-bar and 10-bar trusses is demonstrated to verify the reliability of the sequential design domain method.

Sequential pattern mining, which discovers frequent subsequences as patterns in a sequence database, is an important data mining problem with broad applications. Since a sequential pattern in DNA sequences can be a motif, we studied to find sequential patterns in DNA sequences. Most previously proposed mining algorithms follow the exact matching with a sequential pattern definition. They are not able to work in noisy environments and inaccurate data in practice. Theses problems occurs frequently in DNA sequences which is a biological data. We investigated approximate matching method to deal with those cases. Our idea is based on the observation that all occurrences of a frequent pattern can be classified into groups, which we call approximated pattern. The existing PrefixSpan algorithm can successfully find sequential patterns in a long sequence. We improved the PrefixSpan algorithm to find approximate sequential patterns. The experimental results showed that the number of repeats from the proposed method was 5 times more than that of PrefixSpan when the pattern length is 4.
The purposes of this study were to examine if a decision making by a tourist sequentially or hierarchically occurs in a tourism destination and to test determinants that have an effect on both a sequential and non-sequential decision making. An instrument for the study was developed with three steps. A total of 420 and 380 questionnaire were collected respectively for the first two round surveys. For the third step, a pilot test was conducted with 30 respondents. And the data analysis utilized SPSS 18.0. A logistic regression analysis with variables of tourism activity and demography was employed to investigate the factors that affect a sequence of decision-making process. As an important result, the higher the age of the tourist in a tourism destination, the more conspicuous the consumption expenditure is made through the sequential decision-making process. Additionally, it is unreasonable to apply the premises and assumptions in extant consumer behavior to tourist behavior. The process of decision making by tourists in tourism areas is driven by either non-sequential or non-hierarchical decision-making process. More discussion and implications were provided.

This study is about the application of visual structure and presentation of film as one of new methods for design of sequential landscape. The primary objective of the study is to present the basis of applicable and reasonable D니. In applying components of film to DSL, if it is compared with sequential landscape, the film is collection of shots while sequential landscape is accumulation of sceneries. Film and sequential landscape give us a whole meaning different from the meaning itself of a shot or scenery in its experience. The study build a tentative technique of DSL which has the following stages : 1) Goal setting and making out a scenario 2) Analysis and investigation 3) Selection process of definite form 4) Drawing up conti., sketch and notes, It is expected that the technique presented in this study could be a basis for further study of DSL.
The purpose of this paper is design the most important part of sequential control systems, that is, command-treatment part, from the signal-transformation point of view. An orderly procedure is developed by which for sequential control systems the experimental design method can be reduced to the rational design method. Important in this procedure are: 1. To make total block diagram of sequential control systems by determining input and output signals of command-treatment part. 2. To partition over-all block diagram by observing each output signal. 3. To design concretely minimum block diagram by using the operational block diagram. By applying the method for partitioning the circuit to the design, the design method for sequential control systems is organized and done rationally without the aid of experiece.
