  • For effective response surface modeling during sequential approximate optimization (SAO), the normalized and the augmented D-optimality criteria are presented. The normalized D-optimality criterion uses the normalized Fisher information matrix by its diagonal terms in order to obtain a balance among the linear-order and higher-order terms. Then, it is augmented to directly include other experimental designs or the pre-sampled designs. This augmentation enables the trust region managed sequential approximate optimization to directly use the pre-sampled designs in the overlapped trust regions in constructing the new response surface models. In order to show the effectiveness of the normalized and the augmented D-optimality criteria, following two comparisons are performed. First, the information surface of the normalized D-optimal design is compared with those of the original D-optimal design. Second, a trust-region managed sequential approximate optimizer having three D-optimal designs is developed and three design problems are solved. These comparisons show that the normalized D-optimal design gives more rotatable designs than the original D-optimal design, and the augmented D-optimal design can reduce the number of analyses by 30% - 40% than the original D-optimal design.

  • The fabrication method of aspheric lens is changed from machining to press molding so as to improve the productivity. In the case of the press molding method, the temperature control of the molding die is most important, because the temperature of each molding die determines the quality of lens. But any practical method for direct measuring of the lens temperature and the die internal temperature is yet unknown. Besides, in the case of the press molding system in which the heating and pressing and cooing of a die is done at separate work stations, the lens productivity of the system for small lens is yet too low. The paper shows an improved structure of convective sequential system, the lens productivity of which is three times as many as the conventional convective system. To know the die internal temperature, numerical results are given using ANSYS. A new convective sequential system is developed and tested. Finally, the Taguchi method is applied in order to optimize the setting conditions of individual work station of the system.

  • A study was conducted to develop optimal conditions for a large-scale, sequential separation method for value-added components from egg yolk. Starting with liquid egg yolk, immunoglobulin Y (IgY), phospholipids, and neutral lipids were extracted sequentially using water, ethanol, and n-hexane. The remainder was yolk proteins. Adjusting the pH of diluted egg yolk to pH 5.0-5.2 decreased phospholipids content in the supernatant after centrifugation, which was very important for preventing clogging problem of ultrafiltration filters during the subsequent concentration step for IgY separation. Extraction of precipitants after centrifugation with four volumes of 100% ethanol once removed most of the phospholipids and the purity of phospholipids was more than 85% (wt.) after drying. The subsequent extraction of precipitant from ethanol extraction with four volumes of hexane 3 times removed neutral lipids almost completely and resulted in a high protein product with minimal lipids. The sequential separation method is considered to be advantageous for large-scale separations of many valuable components from egg yolk.

  • We present a sequential factorization method using singular value decomposition (SVD) for recovering both the three-dimensional shape of an object and the motion of camera from a sequence of images. We employ paraperpective projection [6] for camera model to handle significant translational motion toward the camera or across the image. The proposed mthod not only quickly gives robust and accurate results, but also provides results at each frame becauseit is a sequential method. These properties make our method practically applicable to real time applications. Considerable research has been devoted to the problem of recovering motion and shape of object from image [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]. Among many different approaches, we adopt a factorization method using SVD because of its robustness and computational efficiency. The factorization method based on batch-type computation, originally proposed by Tomasi and Kanade [1] proposed the feature trajectory information using singular value decomposition (SVD). Morita and Kanade [10] have extenened [1] to asequential type solution. However, Both methods used an orthographic projection and they cannot be applied to image sequences containing significant translational motion toward the camera or across the image. Poleman and Kanade [11] have developed a batch-type factorization method using paraperspective camera model is a sueful technique, the method cannot be employed for real-time applications because it is based on batch-type computation. This work presents a sequential factorization methodusing SVD for paraperspective projection. Initial experimental results show that the performance of our method is almost equivalent to that of [11] although it is sequential.

  • Programmable Logic Controller(PLC) is the most widely utilized and plays an important role in industrial control system. The study about a PLC language is performed actively. Ladder Diagram(ID) is the most widely used in PLC. In is not suitable for describing a complex sequential logic and is very difficult to grasp the sequential flow of control logic and has the disadvantage for a maintenance. On the other hand, Sequential Function Chart(SFC) is very easy to grasp the sequential flow of control logic and has the compatability for a maintenance but has the disadvantage for describing a condition and a interlock logic. In this paper, we propose the method that describe the interlock logic using management step, and confirm his feasibility through a actual examples.

  • The objective of this research was to create a new probiotic candy with good flavor and healthy benefits by using the response surface method and a sequential quadratic programming technique. The endpoint was to increase the varieties of dairy products and enhance their market values. In this study, milk was mixed with yogurt cultures (Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Streptococcus thermophilus) and probiotics (L. paracasei, Bifidobacterium longum) and incubated at $37^{\circ}C$ for 20 h. The samples were blended with lyoprotectants (galactose, skim milk powder and sucrose), freeze dried and then mixed with sweeteners (lactose and xylitol) to improve the texture for forming tablets. The processing conditions were optimized in two steps: the first step constructed a surface model using response surface methodology; the second step optimized the model with a sequential quadratic programming procedure. Results indicated that skim milk inoculated with L. delbrueckii subsp. Bulgaricus, S. thermophilus, L. paracasei subsp. paracasei and B. longum and blended with 6.9% of galactose, 7.0% of sucrose and 8.0% of skim milk powder would produce a new probiotic candy with the highest viability of probiotics and good flavor. A relatively higher survival of probiotics can be achieved by placing the probiotic candy product in a glass bottle with deoxidant and desiccant at $4^{\circ}C$. These probiotic counts remained at 106-108 CFU/g after being stored for two months.

  • Let $X_1$, $X_2$, ${\cdots}$, $X_n$ be independent and identically distributed random variables having common exponential density with unknown mean ${\mu}$. In the sequential confidence interval estimation for the exponential hazard rate ${\theta}=1/{\mu}$, when the loss function is strictly convex, the following stopping rule is proposed with the half length d of prescribed confidence interval $I_n$ for the parameter ${\theta}$; ${\tau}$ = smallest integer n such that $n{\geq}z^2_{{\alpha}/2}\hat{\theta}^2/d^2+2$, where $\hat{\theta}=(n-1)\bar{X}{_n}^{-1}/n$ is the minimum risk estimator for ${\theta}$ and $z_{{\alpha}/2}$ is defined by $P({\mid}Z{\mid}{\leq}{\alpha}/2)=1-{\alpha}({\alpha}{\in}(0,1))$ Z ~ N(0, 1). For the confidence intervals $I_n$ which is required to satisfy $P({\theta}{\in}I_n){\geq}1-{\alpha}$. These estimated intervals $I_{\tau}$ have the asymptotic consistency of the sequential procedure; $$\lim_{d{\rightarrow}0}P({\theta}{\in}I_{\tau})=1-{\alpha}$$, where ${\alpha}{\in}(0,1)$ is given.

  • Neural network is one of the most notable technique. It usually provides more powerful forecasting models than the traditional time series techniques. Employing the Ensemble technique in forecasting model, one should provide a initial distribution. Usually the uniform distribution is assumed so that the initialization is noninformative. However, it would be expected a sequential informative initialization based on data rather than the uniform initialization gives further reduction in forecasting error. In this note, a modified Ensemble algorithm using sequential initial probability is developed. The sequential distribution is designed to have much weight on the recent data.
