  • A MANET is an autonomous, infrastructureless system that consists of mobile nodes. In MANET, on-demand routing protocols are usually used because network topology changes frequently. The current approach in case of broken routes is to flag an error and re-initiate route discovery either at the source or at the intermediate node. Repairing these broken links is a costly affair in terms of routing overhead and delay involved. Therefore, this paper propose a NAODV(Neighbor-aware AODV) protocol that stands on the basis of an AODV. It sets up the route rapidly if it operates for setting the route directly by using sequence number of neighbor nodes without re-search the route when the route to destination node is broken. Also, it reduces loss of packets. We use NS-2 for the computer simulation and validate that the proposed scheme is better than general AODV in terms of packet delivery ratio and average end-to-end delay. Also, when the proposed protocol is applied to the large ad-hoc network with multiple nodes, the performance is more efficient.

  • The 18S rDNA sequences of Tricholoma matsutake (TM=T. caligatum var. nauseoum) collected in Korea were analyzed for the ectomycorrhizal fungi in the roots of Pinus densiflora. The 514 base pairs of rDNA region were synthesized by UF-5 and UR-6 primers, and double checked in the base pair. The sequence of four strains synthesized were all identical in this work, but different from those done by the previous workers. The basidiocarps collected in this work. were identified to T. matstake after searching the 18s rDNA by the BLAST in NCBI. Only several base pairs of 18S rDNA analyzed from other related basidiocarps were different from our analyses of 18S rDNA. The dendrogram were made based on the sequences of the 514 bp 18S rDNA by CLUSTAL-X alignment program. The groupings of the species at the level of genus in the dendrogram were well constructed.

  • The Motion Estimation (ME) process is an important part of a video encoding systems since they can significantly reduce bitrate with keeping the output quality of an encoded sequence. Unfortunately this process may dominate the encoding time using straightforward full search algorithm (FS). Up to now, many fast algorithms can reduce the computation complexity by limiting the number of searching locations. This is accomplished at the expense of less accuracy of motion estimation. In this paper, we introduce a new fast motion estimation method based on the spatio-temporal correlation of adjacent blocks. A reliable predicted motion vector (RPMV) is defined. The reliability of RPMV is shown on the basis of motion vectors achieved by FS. The scalar and the direction of RPMV are used in our proposed scheme. The experimental results show that the proposed method Is about l1~14% faster than the nearest neighbor method which is a wellknown conventional fast scheme.

  • There exists a transform trellis code that is optimal for stationary Gaussian sources and the squared-error distortion measure at all rates. In this paper, we train an asymptotically optimal version of such a code to obtain one which is matched better to the statistics of real world data. The training algorithm uses the M algorithm to search the trellis codebook and the LBG algorithm to update the trellis codebook. We investigate the trained transform trellis coding scheme for the first-order AR(autoregressive) Gaussian source whose correlation coefficient is 0.9 and actual speech sentences. For the first-order AR source, the achieved SNR for the test sequence is from 0.6 to 1.4 dB less than the maximum achievable SNR as given by Shannon's rate-distortion function for this source, depending on the rate and surpasses all previous known results for this source. For actual speech data, to achieve improved performance, we use window functions and gain adaptation at rate 1.0 bits/sample.

  • The genetic responses of aquaculturable seaweed Prophyra yezoensis tissue by acid shock have been compared using differential display technique. The tissue has been challenged in seawater containing 0.05% hydrogen chloride(pH 3.0) for 5 min, then rehabilitated in normal seawater for 10 min, 30 min, 60 min and 4 hrs, respectively. Total RNA was extracted by LiCl-guanidinium method. The cDNA was synthesized by reverse transcription with random hexamers and amplified by PCR with arbitrary primers. The genetic fragment disappeared by acid shock was selectively isolated from agarose gel and sequenced with a DNA auto sequencer. One of the acid-labile gene(605 bp) was identified as a dethiobiotin synthetase gene according to sequence alignment analysis by the NCBI BLAST search program.

  • A new algorithm is presented which efficiently reports minimum width/space violation in a geometric mask pattern. The proposed algorithm solves a sequence of range search problems by employing a plane sweep method. The algorithm runs in O(n log n) time, where n is the number of edges in a mask pattern. Since a lower bound in time conplexity for reporting all minimum width/space violations is ${\Omega}$ (n log n), this algorithm is theoretically optimal within a constant multiplicaive factor. It requires O($n^{0.5}$) space which is very efficient in practice. Moreover, this algorithm, we believe, is easy to implement and practically fast (116.7 seconds for a rectilinear region with 250000 vertices ar VAX 8650.)

  • Various multimedia systems have been developed and their application areas widely proliferate. Thus, the interoperability is getting important among various networks and devices. The video transcoding is a technology to solve this interoperability problem among various coding standards. Transcoding can be defined as the conversion of one compressed coded data to another. In this paper, MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 transcoder in the spatial domain is compared with that in the DCT domain. The transcoder is very useful when a video sequence that is originally encoded for digital TV, DVD or satellite broadcasting is served in mobile environment. In order to compare two transcoders, all modules except motion compensation and down sampling are implemented identically. In addition, both transcoders do not search for motion vector. Instead, the decoded information is reused to the encoder. The experimental results show that the transcoder in the spatial domain is usually better than that in the DCT domain with respect to PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio), bitrate and execution time.

  • Cyclomaltodextrinases (CDases), maitogenic amylases, and neopullulanases share highly conserved primary structures and similar characteristics, and are thus classified into the same family. BLAST search has showed that a variety of bacterial strains harbor putative CDase family genes with several well-conserved motif amino acid sequences. In this study, four degenerate polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primer sets were designed for the detection of CDase genes, on the basis of their highly conserved amino acid blocks (WYQIFP, DGWRLD, LGSHDT, and KCMVW). The PCR detection conditions were optimized and the detection specificity of each for the primer sets was tested against the genomic DNAs isolated from 23 different Bacillus-associated species. Consequently, all tested primer sets evidenced successful amplification of specific PCR products in length, which share 55-98% amino acid sequence identity with known and putative CDases. The primers developed herein, therefore, can be applied for the easy and efficient detection and isolation of CDase family genes for the modification of functional food carbohydrates.

  • Objective: To explore the differential protein expression profile in EC304 gastric cancer cells induced by alphastatin. Methods: Cultured EC304 cells in the exponential phase of growth were randomly divided into alphastatin and control groups. Total proteins were extracted and the two dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) technique was applied to analyze differences in expression with ImageMaster 2D Platinum 5.0 software. Proteins were identified using the MASCOT database and selected differently expressed proteins were characterised by western blotting and immunofluorescence. Results: $1350{\pm}90$ protein spots were detected by the ImageMaster software in the 2-DE gel images from the control and alphastatin groups. The match rate was about 72-80% for the spectrum profiles, with 29 significantly different protein spots being identified, 10 upregulated, 16 downregulated, two new and one lost. The MASCOT search scores were 64-666 and the peptide matching numbers were 3-27 with sequence coverage of 8-62%. Twenty-three proteins were checked by mass spectrometry, including decrease in Nm23 and profilin-2 isoform b associated with the regulation of actin multimerisation induced by extracellular signals. Conclusion: The proteome in EC304 cells is dramatically altered by alphastatin, which appears to play an important role in modulating cellular activity and anti-angiogenesis by regulating protein expression and signal transduction pathways through Nm23 and profilin-2 isoform b, providing new research directions for anti-angiogenic therapy of gastric cancer.

  • Though it is proposed to use Petri net or dynamic FSM methods for the generation of test sequences on some specific protocols, those methods ere unavailable on the cases where the protocol allows faults processing or includes paths in looping which cause errors or endless looping by the explosion of states. The determination of test coverage on the protocol software that has been designed and implemented is difficult by the reason of development periods, technical solutions to support and also economical limitations. It is suggested to generate timely protocol software test sequences on the basis of regular expressions covering the functions of protocol. With this regular expression method, the 38 test sequences of Q.2971 protocol has been generated and also minimized the endless looping problem when dynamic test suites are used by simplifying the test path expressions that denotes loops, According to the works, the suggested method is confirmed as simple and easy compare to the other dynamic test sequence generation techniques. Moreover. the method to search an optional test path whether it Is included or not in the regular path expression is reviewed.
