  • With the urbanization in recent years, the power line interference noise in electromagnetic signal is increasing day by day, and has gradually become an unavoidable component of noises in magnetotelluric signal detection. Therefore, a kind of power line interference noise elimination method based on independent component analysis in wavelet domain for magnetotelluric signal is put forward in this paper. The method first uses wavelet decomposition to change single-channel signal into multi-channel signal, and then takes advantage of blind source separation principle of independent component analysis to eliminate power line interference noise. There is no need to choose the layer number of wavelet decomposition and the wavelet base of wavelet decomposition according to the observed signal. On the treatment effect, it is better than the previous power line interference removal method based on independent component analysis. Through the de-noising processing to actual magnetotelluric measuring data, it is shown that this method makes both the apparent resistivity curve near 50 Hz and the phase curve near 50 Hz become smoother and steadier than before processing, i.e., it effectively eliminates the power line interference noise.

  • A cyclone is a dust-separating mechanism that works on the principle of centrifugal force. The performance of a cyclone is evaluated using pressure loss and collection efficiency. A multi-cyclone arrangement is used to improve the collection efficiency within a limited area. In this study, experiments and numerical analyses were conducted on a dual arrangement of mini-hydrocyclone separators, which was fabricated using 3D printing. The experiment was performed at an inlet flow rate of 0.7 m/s, and alumina powder with a particle size of 0.5, 15, and 50 ㎛. ANSYS FLUENT, was used for the numerical analysis. The reliability of the numerical analysis was verified through a comparison with the experimental results. The errors in the experiment and numerical analysis were confirmed to be 2% at the outlet flow rate.

  • Interference always exists between wireless communication systems used in the same frequency band or adjacent frequency bands. In order to deploy a new wireless communication system such as a 5G system, a new frequency band must be allocated to the system. For this purpose, after analyzing interference between the existing system and the new system, a method of setting a frequency guard band or a minimum separation distance has been used as a passive method to limit the interference effect. This paper presents a wideband RF IRM(Interference Reduction Module) that can actively reduce the influence of interference between wireless communication systems. The wideband RF IRM can reduce the interference effects of 5G signals on satellite signals. The principle and structure of the wideband RF IRM are presented. The wideband RF IRM can suppress approximately 20dB of interference signal in 100MHz bandwidth when only interference signal exists. It also shows that when a 5G interference signal of -45dBm/100MHz and a satellite signal of -55dBm/40MHz exist simultaneously at a center frequency of 3.83GHz, about 15dB of 5G interference signal can be reduced in the frequency range covered by the satellite signal. The experimental results demonstrate that the wideband RF IRM can actively reduce the 5G interference signal on the satellite signal and can be used for the purpose of reducing the interference effect in a similar environment.

  • Organic solar cells utilized natural polymers to convert solar energy to electricity. The demands for green energy production and less disposal of toxic materials make them one of the interesting candidates for replacing conventional solar cells. However, the different aspects of their properties including mechanical strength and stability are not well recognized. Therefore, in the present study, we aim to explore the chaotic responses of these organic solar cells. In doing so, a specific type of organic solar cell constructed from layers of material with different thicknesses is considered to obtain vibrational and chaotic responses under different boundaries and initial conditions. A square plate structure is examined with first-order shear deformation theory to acquire the displacement field in the laminated structure. The bounding between different layers is considered to be perfect with no sliding and separation. On the other hand, nonlocal elasticity theory is engaged in incorporating the structural effects of the organic material into calculations. Hamilton's principle is adopted to obtain governing equations with regard to boundary conditions and mechanical loadings. The extracted equations of motion were solved using the perturbation method and differential quadrature approach. The results demonstrated the significant effect of relative glass layer thickness on the chaotic behavior of the structure with higher relative thickness leading to less chaotic responses. Moreover, a comprehensive parameter study is presented to examine the effects of nonlocality and relative thicknesses on the natural frequency of square organic solar cell structure.

  • Recently, the consumption of nanomaterials has been significantly increased in both industrial and commercial sectors, as a result of steady advancement in the nano-technologies. This ubiquitous use of nanomaterials has brought up the concern that their exposure to environments may cause detrimental effects on human health as well as natural ecosystems, and it is required to characterize their behavior in various environmental media and to evaluate their ecotoxicity. For the sake of accomplishing those assessments, the development of methods to effectively separate them from diverse media and to quantify their properties should be requisitely accompanied. Among a number of separation techniques developed so far, this study focuses on Field-Flow Fractionation (FFF) because of its strengths, such as relatively less disturbance of samples and simple pretreatment, and we review overseas and domestic literatures on the separation of nanomaterials using the FFF technique. In particular, researches with Flow Field-Flow Fractionation (FlFFF) are highlighted due to its most frequent application among FFF techniques. The basic principle of the FlFFF is briefly introduced and the studies conducted so far are classified and scrutinized based on the sort of target nanomaterials for the purpose of furnishing practical data and information for the researchers struggling in this field. The literature review suggests that the operational conditions, such as pretreatment, selection of membrane and carrier solution, and rate (velocity) of each flow, should be optimized in order to effectively separate them from various matrices using the FFF technique. Moreover, it seems to be a prerequisite to couple or hyphenate with several detectors and analyzers for quantification of their properties after their separation using the FFF. However, its application has been restricted regarding the types of target nanomaterials and environmental media. Furthermore, domestic literature data on both separation and characterization of nanomaterials are extremely limited. Taking into account the overwhelmingly increasing consumption of nanomaterials, the efforts for the area seem to be greatly urgent.

  • Mica-type minerals (illites) in the shales of the Jigunsan formation at Seokgaejae in Samchuk-City, Gangwon-do are studied using electron probe micro analysis (EPMA). The average chemical formula of the mica-type mineral obtained from the quantitative analysis is $(K_{1.17}Na_{0.04}Ca_{0.01})(Al_{2.80}Mg_{1.17}Fe_{0.78})(Si_{6.34}Al_{1.66})O_{20}(OH)_4$, which shows a chemical formula within the range of illite. These illites so called can be considered as mixed-phases among muscovite, pyrophyllite and chlorite due to the low contents of interlayer cations and high Mg, Fe. The formula of illite is separated into those three minerals and the method for the separation is newly formulated and proposed in this study. From the formula of illite, the content of muscovite is estimated from K (Na and Ca included), the content of chlorite by Mg+Fe, and the rest remains as pyrophyllite. The chemical formula of muscovite can be calculated by subtracting the compositions of pyrophyllite and chlorite from the analyzed composition of illite using an ideal formula for pyrophyllite and analyzed average formula for chlorite. The calculated formula of muscovite is supposed to be stoichiometric in principle. The result of the separation of analyzed illite is 61% muscovite, 27.3% chlorite and 11.7% pyrophyllite and the calculated formula of muscovite after separation is $(K,Na,Ca)_{2.00}Al_{3.69}(Si_{6.75}Al_{1.25})O_{20}(OH)_4$. The calculated formula of muscovite slightly low in Al content can be considered to be reasonable in general when the low content of Al in the rock and the uncertainties of chlorite compositions used in the calculation are counted. This supports that the method of separation proposed in this study is also applicable.

  • A new high-gain Fabry-$P{\acute{e}}rot$ cavity antenna for wireless broadband internet(Wibro) base station antennas, which is covered with metamaterial superstrate presenting simultaneous negative values of permittivity and permeability, is proposed. To facilitate the fabrication process using the printed circuit board(PCB) technology of today, a new planar-type metamaterial superstrate is designed, which shows negative and low positive values of a refractive index near the Wibro service frequency band. And the principle of antenna gain enhancement is analyzed from the two different view points of effectively low refractive index and of the Fabry-$P{\acute{e}}rot$ resonance condition. Single square patch antenna is used as a feeder. The separation distance is determined by considering the reflection phases of the metamaterial superstrate and the substrate satisfying Fabry-$P{\acute{e}}rot$ resonance condition, respectively. Comparison between the prediction and the measurement shows good agreement, which verifies the validity of our design approach.

  • Construction waste mainly consists of concrete aggregates of various size. Improper handling of concrete waste would be a major environmental problem whereas its recycling would be both economically useful and environmentally friendly. Bigger concrete aggregates are crushed and converted to medium and fine particles to make them recyclable. An apparatus to separate the concrete aggregates by their size is thus needed for their effective recycling. In this work, segregation of concrete particles in air flows from a newly designed rotary separator having three stages of blades is simulated using a commercial software, ANSYS-CFX. Both 2-D and 3-D models with 360, 240 and 180 blades in each stage are considered. Fundamental mechanism of separation of particles(pase) and the effect of design parameters such as particle size, rotor speed, air flow rate etc. on the performance of the separator are investigated. Critical size of particles that can be separated by the developed separator is also presented in this work. Simulation results are overall in good agreement with data predicted from the theoretical model previously reported in the companion paper.
