Ion-exchange polymeric stationary phases presenting amino acid and amino groups were prepared by the surface grafting of glycidyl methacrylate onto a silica gel surface and subsequent amination. Three kinds of amino acids-L-arginine (Arg), D-lysine (Lys), and D-histine (His)-were used in this study. An ion-exchange polymeric stationary phase presenting ethylene diamine (EDA) was also prepared by surface graft polymerization. Separation of the model proteins bovine serum albumin (BSA), chick egg albumin (CEA), and hemoglobin (Hb) was performed using the amino acid- and amine-derived columns. In separating the CEA/BSA mixture, the resolution time of BSA was longer than that of CEA when using the EDA column, whereas the resolution time of BSA was shorter than that of CEA when using the Arg, Lys, and His columns. In the separation of the Hb/BSA mixture, the resolution time of BSA was longer than that of Hb in the EDA column, whereas the resolution time of BSA was shorter than that of Hb in the amino acid columns (D-Lys, L-Arg, and D-His).
In this study, I analyzed dual-career commuting couples time use. Concretely, this study compared the husband with the wife on the becoming a commuter family, the living apart on weekdays. And it examined time use on weekdays and weekends by the time amount of each activities and the ratio of actor on each hour. The survey participants included 131 married people who were dual-career commuting couple and who were maintained separate residence and work place. The major findings are as follows: First, weekday separation of the dual-career commuting couples is largely due to career. This kind separation is mostly due to sociostructural labor market factor and individual factor to increasing working women. Second, 94.6%(53) of male participants were resident living apart from their family on weekdays. Third, the most wives mentioned some kind of emotional liberation such as freedom on weekdays. Finally, there was gender difference in the time spent on each activities when dual-career commuting couples are living together and they are apart. Especially the most gender difference on weekdays is household work time and leisure time.

Recently, the serious problems have been occurred due to the contaminated sites with heavy metals are increasing. There are several remediation technologies of the metal contaminated soil such as physical separation, washing with water or acid, biologically, electrically. Pytoremediation, ultrasonic etc. Among these technologies the physical separation can be put in a good option to solve the metal contaminated soil economically and environmental friendly. Because this technology has been already commercially certificated in the mineral processing field for a long time.
The feasibility of foam separation to remove protein in aquacultural recirculating water was investigated. From the results of batch foam separation on protein removal, superficial air velocity and initial protein concentration in bulk solution were found to be important operational factors In determining removal rates of protein. The protein removal rate by batch foam separation was proportionally increased with the superficial air velocity. Performance characteristics of continous foam separator were highly dependent upon the operating parameters of superficial air velocity, hydraulic retention time(HRT) and foam height. Removal effeciency of protein increases with increasing superficial air velocity and HRT, and independent on foam height. As DO concentration was increased with superficial air velocity, foam separator is also used for oxygen addition. It could be confinned that foam separator might offer better perspective for protein removal in aquacuitural recirculating water.

Cells in a culture process transform with time and produce many overlapping cells in their vicinity. We are interested in a separation algorithm for images of overlapping cells taken using a fluorescence optical microscope system during a cell culture process. In this study, all cells are assumed to have an ellipse-like shape. For an ellipse fitting-based method, an improved least squares method is used by decomposing the design matrix into quadratic and linear parts for the separation of overlapping cells. Through various experiments, the improved least squares method (numerically stable direct least squares fitting [NSDLSF]) is compared with the conventional least squares method (direct least squares fitting [DLSF]). The results reveal that NSDLSF has a successful separation ratio with an average accuracy of 95% for two overlapping cells, an average accuracy of 91% for three overlapping cells, and about 82% accuracy for four overlapping cells.

A flow visualization of the two-dimensional rigid fling-clap motions of the flat-plate wing are performed to gain knowledge of butterfly mechanisms that might be employed by butterflies during flight. In this numerical visualization, the time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations are solved for cyclic fling and clap types of wing motion. The separation vortex pair that is developed in the fling phase of the cyclic fling and clap motion is observed to be stronger than those of the fling followed by clap and pause motion(1st cycle motion). This stronger separation vortex pair in the fling phase is attributable to the separation vortex pair of the outside space developed in the clap phase as it moves into the opening in the following fling phase. Accordingly, higher lift and power expenditure coefficients in the fling after clap phase is caused by the stronger separation vortex pair.

In this paper, we investigate source separation algorithms for stereo audio mixed using amplitude panning method. This source separation algorithms can be used in various applications such as up-mixing, speech enhancement, and high quality sound source separation. The methods in this paper estimate the panning angles of individual signals using the principal component analysis being applied in time-frequency tiles of the input signal and independently extract each signal through directional filtering. Performances of the methods were evaluated through computer simulations.

We propose a new algorithm for blind source separation (BSS), in which frequency-domain independent component analysis (FDICA) and time-domain ICA (TDICA) are combined to achieve a superior source-separation performance under reverberant conditions. Generally speaking, conventional TDICA fails to separate source signals under heavily reverberant conditions because of the low convergence in the iterative learning of the inverse of the mixing system. On the other hand, the separation performance of conventional FDICA also degrades significantly because the independence assumption of narrow-band signals collapses when the number of subbands increases. In the proposed method, the separated signals of FDICA are regarded as the input signals for TDICA, and we can remove the residual crosstalk components of FDICA by using TDICA. The experimental results obtained under the reverberant condition reveal that the separation performance of the proposed method is superior to that of conventional ICA-based BSS methods.
Regarding the importance of seismic pounding, the available standards and guidelines specify minimum separation distance between adjacent buildings. However, the rules in this field are generally based on some simple assumptions, and the level of confidence is uncertain. This is attributed to the fact that the relative response of adjacent structures is strongly dependent on the frequency content of the applied records and the Eigen frequencies of the adjacent structures as well. Therefore, this research aims at investigating the separation distance of the buildings through a probabilistic-based algorithm. In order to empower the algorithm, the record-to-record uncertainties, are considered by probabilistic approaches; besides, a wide extent of material nonlinear behaviors can be introduced into the structural model by the implementation of the hysteresis Bouc-Wen model. The algorithm is then simplified by the application of the linearization concept and using the response acceleration spectrum. By implementing the proposed algorithm, the separation distance in a specific probability level can be evaluated without the essential need of performing time-consuming dynamic analyses. Accuracy of the proposed method is evaluated using nonlinear dynamic analyses of adjacent structures.
The demand for rare-earth elements (REEs) is increasing owing to their significance as prominent materials in electronics, high-tech industries, geological research, nuclear forensics, and environmental monitoring. In general, the utilization of REEs in various applications requires the use of chromatographic techniques to separate individual elements. However, REEs have similar physicochemical properties, which makes them difficult to separate. Recently, several studies have examined the separation of REEs using LN resin as the stationary phase and aqueous nitric acid and hydrochloric acid solutions as eluents. Using this method, light REEs have been separated using dilute acid solutions as the eluent, whereas heavy REEs are separated using solutions with high acid concentrations. To increase the separation resolution between different REEs, either the column length or resin size is changed. In addition, the suggested methods are implemented to decrease the analysis time. This review presents technical information on the chromatographic separation of REEs using the LN resin and discusses the optimal experimental conditions.
