A model analysis method has been developed in the paper. The method estimates the modal parameters of multiple input-output systems, assesses their quality, and seperates structural modes form computation ones. The modal parameter extraction algorithm is the least squares method with a finite difference model relating input and output time data. The quality of the estimated system model can be assessed in narrow frequency bands by comparing the measured and model predicted responses in time domain with the aid of digital filters. Structural modes can be effectively separated from computational ones using the convergence factor which represents the pole convergence rate. The modal analysis method has been applied to simulated and experimental vibration data to evaluate its utility and limitations.
It is known that previous models are unsatisfactory in predicting adverse pressure gradient turbulent flows. In the present paper, a revised low Reynolds number $k-{\varepsilon}$ model is proposed. In this model, a newly developed term is added lo the dissipation rate equation. In order to reflect appropriate effects for an adverse pressure gradient. The added tenn is derived by considering the distribution of mean velocity and turbulent properties in the turbulent flow with, adverse pressure gradient. The new $k-{\varepsilon}$ model was applied to calculations of flat plate flow with adverse pressure gradient, conical diffuser flow and backward facing step flow. It was found that the three numerical results showed better agreement than other models compared with DNS results and experimental ones.
An equivalent circuit model of vehicle charging-discharging system for simulation is developed. The vehicle electric power system consists of alternator and battery. The alternator must have adequate capacity for providing electric energy to all loads, and the battery supports the alternator by offering insufficient energy when the alternator output energy is not enough. The alternator model is simplified for the use of characteristic curve, which was provided by its manufacturer, and the battery model is separated in charging mode and discharging mode because of its complex characteristics. Developed circuit model is validated by comparing the simulation data and real experimental data.
In the present study, an improved version of 4-equation low-Reynolds-number 4-equation model is proposed. The equations of the temperature variance ($k_{\theta}$) and its dissipation rate(${\varepsilon}_{\theta}$) are solved, in concert with the equations of the turbulent kinetic energy(k) and its dissipation rate(${\varepsilon}$). In the present model, the near-wall effect and the non-equilibrium effect are fully taken into consideration. The validation of the model is then applied to the turbulent flow behind a backward-facing step and the flow over a blunt body. The predicted results of the present model are compared and evaluated with the relevant experiments.
In this study, the performances of various turbulence closure models are evaluated in the calculation of a transonic flow over axisymmetric bump. k-$\varepsilon$, explicit algebraic stress, and two Reynolds stress models, i.e., GL model proposed by Gibson & Launder and SSG model proposed by Speziale, Sarkar and Gatski, are chosen as turbulence closure models. SSG Reynolds stress model gives best predictions for pressure coefficients and the location of shock. The results with GL model also show quite accurate prediction of pressure coefficients down-stream of shock wave. However, in the predictions of mean velocities and turbulent stresses, the results are not so satisfactory as in the prediction of pressure coefficients.
The wind-flow characteristics over a two-dimensional triangular prism with a porous windbreak are numerically investigated. The geometry is a simplified model of large outdoor stack with a frontal wall-type windbreak which is used to prevent particle dispersion by reducing wind speed over stak surface. In the present numerical model, the RNG k-$\varepsilon$ model, the orthogonal grid system and the QUICK scheme are employed for the successful simulation of separated flow. The predicted results are compared and validated with the associated wind-tunnel experiments. In addition, the trajectories of dispersed particles and their sedimentation characteristics are quantitatively investingated using a Lagrangian turbulent-dispersion model.
This study was performed to investigate the characteristics and performance of model Decanter for separating swine wastewater to solid and liquid which is slurry state with 12.6% TS. Swine wastewater of the slurry tank was pumped into model Decanter which capacity was $2m^3$/hr in 10% TS Slurry inside of bowl was separated to solid-liquid by centrifugal acceleration. Sampling was done in the section of slurry feed pipe, supernatant outflow pipe, cake discharge pipe. After solid-liquid separation TS, $COD_cr$ and slurry volume reduction effect represented 38%, 40%, 19.6% respectively. Relation factor of model Decanter operation slurry concentration, optimum retention time of slurry, overflow velocity of supernatant, supernatant concentration, sludge removal rate etc. Optimal operation conditions can be set and evaluated efficiency based on the experimental results in the case of Decanter adopted for solid-liquid separation in highly concentrated swine wastewater.
The objective of this study is to understand the flow above the front edge of low-rise building roofs. The greatest suction on the building is known to occur at this location as a result of the formation of conical vortices in the separated flow zone. It is expected that the relationship between this suction and upstream flow conditions can be better understood through the analysis of the vortex flow mechanism. Experimental measurements were used, along with predictions from numerical simulations of delta wing vortex flows, to develop a model of the pressure field within and beneath the conical vortex. The model accounts for the change in vortex suction with wind angle, and includes a parameter indicating the strength of the vortex. The model can be applied to both mean and time dependent surface pressures, and is validated in a companion paper.
