Study on the Realities in Seoul Subway Crimes: Criminal Psychology (서울지하철 범죄 실태에 대한 범죄심리학적 연구)

  • ‘Defined legally as a violation of law' (Sutherland, E. H. Principles of Criminology, Lippincott, Chicago, 1939) Crime within the group is essentially and primarily antisocial in that the criminal who is welfare of his group acts instead against it and breaks the principles of social solidarity not merely by not doing what these principles prescribe, but by doing something exactly opposites. Any program set up to attack crime and delinquent behavior at their sources. A program of his nature needs the constant and comprehensive collaboration of psychiatrists, social works, educations, lawmakers, and public officials, since crime is a social problem and it should be treated as such. Some crime preventives which should be mentioned are as follows, (1) The insurance that every child will be decently born and that his home life be socially and economically adequate; without socially mature parents the chid is handicapped at the start; thus parental education, integrated with the public school system, should be developed now. (2) A more meaningful educational program which would emphasize ideals of citizenship, moral integrity, and respect for the law and the police. (3) A periodic check made for potential delinquents throughout the public schools and treatment provided if possible; and if not, proper segregation in institutions. (4) Careful attention paid to press, movies, and radio so that crime may no longer appear to be glamorous. This can be done by women's clubs, civic bodies, and other educational groups exerting pressure on the movie syndicates and broadcasting companies to free their productions of the tawdry and lurid characteristics of crime and criminals. Aggression associated with the phallic stage of development, The child ordinarily comprehends sexual intercourse as an aggressive and sadistic act on the part of the male, and specifically on the part of the penis. Development of a Neural Network Expert System for Safety Analysis of Structures Adjacent to Tunnel Excavation Sites Focused on Development and Reliability Evaluation of Expert System (터널굴착 현장에 인접한 지상구조물의 안전성 평가용 전문가 시스템의 개발 (1) -전문가 시스템 개발 및 신뢰성 검증을 중심으로)

  • Ground settlements induced by tunnel excavation cause the foundations of the neighboring building structures to deform. An expert system called NESASS( Neural network Expert System for Adjacent Structure Safety analysis) was developed to analyze the structural safety of such building structures. NESASS predicts the trend of ground settlements resulting from tunnel excavation and carries out a safety analysis for building structures on the basis of the predicted ground settlements. Using neural network technique. the NESASS learns the database consisting of the measured ground settlements collected from numerous actual fields and infers a settlement trend at the field of interest. The NESASS calculates the magnitudes of angular distortion, deflection ratio, and differential settlement of the structure. and in turn, determines the safety of the structure. In addition, the NESASS predicts the patterns of cracks to be formed in the structure, using Dulacska model for crack evaluation. In this study, the ground settlements measured from Seoul subway construction sites were collected and classified with respect to the major factors influencing ground settlement. Subsequently, a database of ground settlement due to tunnel excavation was built. A parametric study was performed to select the optimal neural network model for the database. A comparison of the ground settlement predicted by the NESASS with the measured ones indicates that the NESASS leads to reasonable predictions. The results of confidence evaluation for safety evaluation system of the NESASS are presented in this paper.

Test-bed Operation for Nation-wide Interoperable Transportation Card (전국호환 교통카드를 위한 테스트베드 운영)

  • In this paper, we describe the result of the test-bed on Nation-wide Interoperable Transportation System connected with Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System, which was developed by Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings, KOREAIL NETWORKS, HiPlusCard and Samsung SDS. we constructed Nation-wide Interoperable Transportation System on 4 downtown bus routes, 20 stations on line 1 subway, 2 stations of a train and 2 sections of the Honam highway in Gwangju and Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System in Seoul University IC Card Center. So we operated that by 480 Several staff were given a test card and asked to try it for about 6 months. This test-bed is for demonstrates the accuracy, safety and credibility of the Nation-wide Interoperability standard technology and it can be applied to all of transportation practically. When the staffs contact the card to Purchase terminal, the card performs transaction with Purchase SAM in the terminal, then transactions ara used to calculate in Settlement system and Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System. Through the test-bed, we examined this process and found unexpected problems happening during the test operation and have successfully solved them. In addition, the results of the test-bed let us know what additional improvement might be required for System. The successful run of the test-bed was verified by an evaluation of the test-bed staff and a public survey.

Environmental Capacity Assessment of Busan City (부산시 환경용량평가에 관한 연구)

  • Environmental capacity assessment of Busan city was conducted to provide basis for planning on sustainable development and growth of the city. Using Onish model, assessment was carried out on amenities and service facilities for the citizens of Busan city. Ecological Footprint model was used to judge if the city exceeds the its environmental capacity and to estimate the extent of the excess if it exists. The analysis using Onish model revealed that the citizens of Busan city are generally well supported by the infrastructure and service facilities of the city. Water treatment and supply facilities have enough capabilities to support the city, whereas the relatively low rate of sanitary sewer supply (78%) suggests the need for further improvement in the wastewater area. The capacities of sanitary landfills are found sufficient enough to support the city for the next 10 years. The high value for the line length served per capita in the subway sector hints on certain inconvenience of commuters. All the air quality indicators meet the Korean and WHO standards except for $NO_2$. The ecological footprint model analysis produced EF indicators for Busan city of 3.04 ha/person and 2.54 ha/person for the years of 1993 and 2003, respectively. The decrease of the indicator from 1993 to 2003 is mainly due to the incorporation of Gijang area by Busan city in 1995, suggesting the importance of the ecologically productive area in the evaluation using this model. The analysis on the ecological deficit that is based on ecologically productive land shows that the consumption by Busan city exceeds its ecologically available production by 19,600% as of 2003. The area needed to support the consumption of Busan city in 2003 is 123 times as large as the present area of Busan city, which is substantially lower than the multiplier (742) obtained for Seoul city in 1997 but is higher than those observed for Chongju city (71 in 1999) and Ulsan city (39 in 2001).

An examples is presented in this paper where NESASS is used to evaluate the safety of a structure subject to deformation due to tunnel excavation near to the structure.

  • In this study, 3D analysis was compared in evaluating the track deformation of subway structures during adjacent excavation. For the 3D analysis model, the boundary conditions of the tunnel model and the application level of the ground water were analyzed as variables. As the result of the effects of track irregularity using the 3D model, the analysis model considering the site ground water level instead of the design values and changing the constraint of the boundary condition is more reasonable. In addition, the influence of track irregularity due to the boundary condition and load condition of the analytical model is more obvious in the factors directly affected by the longitudinal relative displacement of the rail, such as alignment, cross level and gauge irregularity. Therefore, the evaluation on track stability according to adjacent excavation work was appropriate to analysed the longitudinal deformation of the track by using 3D model that could be investigate the deformation of rail. In addition, the boundary condition and load condition(ground water level) of the numerical model was important for accurate analysis results.

An Analysis of the Effects of Customer Characteristics on Sales of Alley Market Area Using Geographically Weighted Regression (지리가중회귀분석을 이용한 고객특성별 골목상권 매출액 영향 연구)

  • With the revitalization of alley market area becoming a major goal of the urban regeneration project, an understanding on customer characteristics that affect the sales of alley market areas is needed. As spatial heterogeneity appears to exist in alley market areas, the use of GWR (Geographically Weighted Regression) is required as an alternative to OLS (Ordinary Least Squares) regression. This study analyzes effects of customer characteristics on sales of 1007 alley market areas in Seoul. Comparing R squared and AICc, results show that GWR is better than OLS regression. According to OLS regression, the ratio of female, the ratio of 40's and 50's, the number of employees, the opening rate of establishment, the density of building and the size of alley market area have positive effects on sales, while the ratio of 20's and 30's, the distance of bus stop and that of subway station have negative effects. As a result of comparing local regression coefficients of geographically weighted regression analysis, the ratio of female customers has the greatest effect on the northwestern region, followed by the southwestern region, the central region and the northeastern region. The ratio of 20's and 30's and that of 40's and 50's effect on the southeastern and northeastern regions, and then the southwestern region. It is expected that this study will help to identify marketing target for each alley market area.

Revision of related Regulations and Construction Standards for the Use of Information on Underground Facilities Quality Level (지하시설물 품질등급 정보의 활용을 위한 관련 규정 및 건설기준 개정 방안)

  • The computerization project for underground facilities in Korea began in earnest after the city gas explosion in Seoul in 1994, and the Daegu subway explosion in 1995. As such a large-scale gas explosion accident caused enormous economic loss including human casualties and potential benefits, the need for computerized for efficient management of underground facilities was greatly emphasized in society. Meantime, computerization of underground facilities has been carried out according to the basic plan for building national geographic information system. In this study, problems were identified based on the current status of construction and management of underground facility information, as well as laws and regulations, and directions for establishing quality standards were presented. In addition, construction work standards such as 「Public Survey Work Regulations」, design standards, standard specifications, and technical specifications, gas technology standards, design standards, and communication works so that underground facility information can be linked and utilized in construction work by examining the linkage of the underground facilities, the targets that can be used for quality level information on underground facilities were derived, and a proposal to revise the construction standards was presented. In the future, if the quality standards are established, it is expected that the accuracy and utilization in the construction field will be increased.

Evaluation of low-vibration electronic detonator blasting method to improve constructability in non-vibration excavation section (무진동 굴착구간에서의 시공성 향상을 위한 미진동 전자발파공법 평가)

  • Although this site is designed with a non-vibration excavation method for a section of 265 m, there are concerns about decline of constructability and economic feasibility. For this reason, the low-vibration electronic detonator blasting method was suggested. To evaluate the applicability of the low-vibration electronic detonator blasting method, the damage range of blasting vibration of low-vibration electronic detonator blasting applied just before the site (suggestion I) and low-vibration electronic detonator blasting constructed close range the subway like this site (suggestion II) was analyzed. As a result of comparing the blasting vibration damage ranges of the two suggestions, the damage range of suggestion II was calculated more conservatively. Considering the specificity of the close range of this site, suggestion II was selected for design change for safer construction. As a result, it is predicted that there will be no damage to the structure even if the 72 m section out of the non-vibration excavation 265 m section is changed to the Low-vibration electronic detonator blasting. And it is evaluated that high economic benefits can be obtained because the total expected excavation period can be reduced by 144 days from 662.5 days.

The Effects of Complex Commercial Facility on the Prices of Nearby Apartments (복합상업시설이 인근 아파트 가격에 미치는 영향)

  • This study empirically analyzed the effect of complex commercial facilities on the price of nearby apartments in a Hedonic price model. The spatial range of this study was the walking area of H Department Store located in Pangyo among the second new towns suburb of Seoul, and the time range was 2020. The dependent variable was the real transaction price of the apartment, and independent variable were the characteristics of the housing, the characteristics of the complex, and the characteristics of the region. As a result of the analysis, the area of exclusive use space, the transaction floor, and the highway accessibility had a positive effect on the price of the apartment, and the elapsed year had a negative effect on the price of the apartment. However, the size of the apartment had little effect on apartment prices, and the distance from the complex commercial facilities was shown to be related to apartment prices, indicating that apartment prices declined as it moved away from the complex commercial facilities. Therefore, this is much more influential than the influence of distance from subway stations on apartment price. This confirms that the effect factors of apartment prices and the size of their influence appear differently in the new town area and the existing metropolitan area.
