Effects of some organophosphate pesticides on the murine immune system following subchronic exposure 1

  • Four technical grade organophosphate pesticides (Fenitrothion, Fenthion, Dizninon and EPN) were investigated for their effects on the murine immune function. Among the immunotoxicological assay parameters of NIEHS, humoral immune parameter and pathotoxicological indicators were examined in this study. Subchronic exposure of rodents to these pesticides resulted in marked suppression of humoral immune function and moderate histological changes of lymphoid organ any significant alterations of clinical status.

  • Over twelve alkaloids were delected in the roots of Panax ginseng C. A. Meyor. Among them three alkaloids were isolated and were identified as $N_{9}$-formylharman, ethyl $\beta$-carboline-1-carboxylate and perlolyrine on the basis of spectroscopic studies.

  • A new triterpene lactose named patrinolide A (7) has been isolated from the roots of Patrinia scabiosaefolia (Valerianaceae). Its structure was determined to be 11$\beta$,21$\beta$-dihydroxy-3-oxooleanan-28,13$\beta$-olide on the basis of spectral analysis, including 2D-NMR techniques.

  • Five known lignans, (+)-pinoresinol (1), (+)-8-hydroxypinoresinol (2), (-)- dehydrodiconiferyl alcohol (3), (+)-trans-dehydrodiconiferyl alcohol (4), and (-)-olivil (5), were isolated from the roots of Rosa multiflora for the first time. Their structures were determined using spectroscopic data.

  • Six compounds were isolated from the fruits of Acanthopanax sessiliflorus. Their structures were elucidated as (-)-sesamin, scoparone, protocatechuic acid, ursolic acid, hyperin and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural by physicochemical and spectroscopic analysis. Among them, scoparone, ursolic acid and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural were isolated for the first time from Acanthopanax species.

  • A chemical tool was developed for the analysis of complex mixtures such as crude drugs by the method of pattern recognition. Pattern recognition was accomplished by a multiple reference peak identification method and three kinds of outlier statistics. This tool was tested on the analysis of synthetic mixtures.

  • An alkaloid was isolated form water-soluble fraction of Panax ginseng roots. It was characterized by spectroscopic data and dynthesis as 4, 5, 6, 7-tetrahydroimidazo (4, 5-c) pyridine-6-carboxylic acid or spinacine, which was first isolated from the plant kingdom.
