Objective : This study is to verify effect of a sensory integration (SI) intervention on sensory processing of children with sensory modulation disorder (SMD), and to explore how the SI intervention affect play, socialization, occupational performance and occupational satisfaction of those children. Method : Five children with developmental disabilities living in metropolitan were diagnosed as SMD by the Sensory History Interview (SHI) and Short Sensory Profile (SSP). The SMD children undergone the 48 sessions of 50 min intervention twice in a week for six months and took the Revised Knox Preschool Play Scale(RKPPS), Social maturity test, Canadian Occupational Performance Measure(COPM), and Japanese Sensory Inventory Revised(JSI-2) before- and after the intervention. The result data analyzed by the Wilcoxon matched-pair signed rank test. Results : All data of post-intervention differed significantly; RKPPS(Z=-2.023, p=.043), Social maturity test(Z=-2.023, p=.043); occupational performance(Z=-2.023, p=.043); satisfaction(Z=-2.032, p=.042); and tactile system of JSI-2(Z=-2.032, p=.042). Conclusions : The results advocate that sensory integration intervention is effective in improving tactile processing, play, socialization, occupational performance, and occupational satisfaction of child with SMD. It is found that sensory integration intervention improves not only one's occupational performance but also underlying components of the performance. In order to generalize this conclusion, further studies need to be done with more number of subjects and consideration of environmental factors. Striving for more reliable and valid methods of data collection is also suggested.

After drawing the sensory images from the color green, the difference of sensory images and the difference of the color green according to demographic characteristics and which factors affect the preference have been analysed. The thirty six-photos of 2013 women fashion show on the STYLE.COM were used for the stimuli of green colour fashion for the questionnaire. The people surveyed were adults in their 20s to 50s. The 123 copies of the questionnaire were used for the statistical analysis of this study. Factor analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ test, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test and Regression analysis test were carried out by SPSS 19 for the statistical analysis of collected data. The results were as follows. The sensory images of green fashion were drawn in six types. The sensory images of green fashion according to demographic characteristics showed a significant difference depending on martial status, age, monthly income and occupation. The preference of green colour fashion according to demographic characteristics showed a significant difference depending on sex, age, monthly income, occupation. The variables affecting the preference of green fashion were identified as four types, and the most affecting variable to the preference was the favorable and familiar factor. These research results will become available on selecting the target customer and making the marketing differentiation strategy when planning fashion products.

Objective : The aim of this study is to verify the effects of group sensory integrative intervention on praxis and socialization for school-aged children with sensory integration disorder. Method : The subjects are five children aged between 7 and 13 with sensory integration disorder. All children had participated in 26 sessions of group sensory integrative intervention. The Bruininks-Oseretasky Test of Motor Proficiency(BOT-2) and The Scale for Basic Socialized Function were used so as to evaluate the praxis and socialization. One group pretest-posttest design was used to verify the effect of group sensory integration(SI) intervention. The statistical difference between before and after the group SI intervention in the BOT-2, Scale for basic socialized function is tested by the Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed ranks test. Results : There is a significant difference in BOT-2(Z=-2.023, p=.043) and Scale for basic socialized function(Z=-2.023, p=.043) scores comparing pre-intervention with post-intervention. Conclusions : The results of this study showed that the group sensory integration intervention is effective in improving the praxis and socialization for school-aged children. However, it is difficult to generalize the conclusion because the number of subjects was limited and the environmental confounding factors had not been considered. Therefore, in the future research, it should supplement the aspect these limitations before applying the sensory integration intervention in order to suggest standard criteria for norm data.
Purpose: Authors have performed free tissue transplantation in the upper and lower extremities with sensory flaps and evaluated the sensory function recovery. Materials and methods: Between 1992 through 2004, sensory free flap articles published in the journal of the Korean microsurgical society, were reviewed and recovery of sensory function was assessed by static two-point discrimination test. Results: Static two point discrimination test showed average 6.7 mm in the thumb, average 12 mm in the hand and 7 cm of the dorsalis pedis flap, 20.5 mm of the lateral arm flap and over 8 cm of the forearm flap in the foot. Conclusion: Sensory flaps provide the protective and useful coverage in the upper and lower extremities and have benefit for activities for daily life in free tissue transferred patients.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of sensory integration therapy (SIT) on sensory' motor development and adaptive behavior of cerebral palsy children. The design of this study was quasi experiments with a non-equivalent pre- and post-test control design. Subjects of the study were arbitrarily chosen based on predetermined selection criteria among the cerebral palsy children who were treated as out-patients at two rehabilitation hospitals one in Seoul, and the other in Kyunggi-do. The study was conducted between early April and late July in 2000. Fifteen children were in the experimental group and eleven in the control group. The allocation was done based on ease of experimental treatment. A five-step SIT program was devised from a combination of SIT programs suggested by Ayres(1985) and Finks(1989), and an author-designed SIT program for cerebral palsy children. The experimental group was subjected to 20 to 30 minutes of SIT per session. two sessions a week for ten -week period. The effects of SIT were measured with respect to 9 sub-areas that can be administered to cerebral palsy children out of a total of 17 sub-areas in the Southern California Sensory Integration Test (SCSIT) developed by Ayres (1980). In addition. the scale developed by Russell (1993) for Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM). and Perception Motor Development Test developed by 中司利一 et al.(1987) were also applied. Adaptive behavior was analyzed using guidelines in two unpublished documents - School-Age Checklist for Occupational Therapy by the Wakefield Occupational Therapy Associates, and the OTA-Watertown Clinical Assessment by the Watertown Occupational Therapy Associates-, and an author-developed Adaptive Behavior Checklist. Collected data were statistically analyzed by SPSS PC for chi square test, Mann-Whitney test, Wilcoxon signed rank test, and paired t-test. The results were as follows: 1. In sensory development, the experimental group exhibited a score increase compared to the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant, Although the experimental group showed improvements in all. 9 sub-areas compared to the control group, only right-left discrimination exhibited statistically significant change. 2. In gross motor development, the experimental group showed improvements in score compared to the control group, but it was not statistically significant. In fine motor development, the experimental group exhibited statistically significant improvements compared to the control group. In sub-area analysis, figure synthesis showed positive change. 3. In adaptive behavior development, post-experimental adaptive behavior scores were higher compared to pre-experimental scores with statistical significance. Furthermore, sub-areas emotional behavior, perception behavior, gross-fine motor function, oral-respiration function, motor behavior, motor planning, and adaptive response exhibited higher scores after SIT. In conclusion SIT was found to be partially effective in sensory and fine motor development, effective in all adaptive behavior areas, and not effective in gross motor development. Thus, this study has shown that SIT is an effective intervention for sensory development, fine motor development, and adaptive behavior for cerebral palsy children. But, for the effectiveness of SIT on gross motor development, further studies employing longer-time experiments are recommended.
Sensory perception of food/beverage products is one of the most important quality factors to determine consumer acceptability and thus sensory discrimination methodology has been a vital tool for quality management. Signal detection theory(SDT) and Thurstonian modeling provide the most advanced psychometric approach to modeling various discrimination methods. In these theories, perceptual and cognitive decisional factors are considered so that, a fundamental measure of sensory difference (d') can be computed, independent of test methods used. In this paper, sensory discrimination analysis based on SDT and Thurstonian modeling is introduced for more accurate and systematic applications of sensory and hedonic quality management in industry. Ways to realize the statistical power and relative sensitivity of sensory discrimination methods theorized in SDT and Thurstonian modeling in practice, are also discussed by using a case study of the Nongshim quality management program for drinking water in which SDT A-Not A test methodology was further optimized.
In order to evaluate the effectiveness of fuzzy reasoning to sensory tests, in this paper, a non-linear fuzzy system model that can estimate the general evaluator obtained from a numerical example of test of taste is constructed. And the applicability of fuzzy reasoning to sensory test is discussed on the basis of errors occurred from the estimates in combination of attributes of objects and from the results of multi-regression analysis. This paper proved that fuzzy reasoning using fuzzy If-then rules is applicable to sensory test.
This study was performed to provide basic data on sous-vided beef sirloin by comparing its water content, color, brightness, number of microorganism, mechanical quality characteristic test, and sensory test with a control group that was cooked using a traditional preparation method. There were no significant pH difference but water content, brightness, yellowness, and springiness were higher for the sous-vided beef sirloin, however, the sous-vided beef sirloin had less redness, hardness, and number of microorganism. Although sous-vided beef sirloin required a longer cooking time, it was softer and had a higher springiness. Generally, the sous-vided beef sirloin had a showed longer storage period and better evaluation than traditionally cooked beef sirloin in the sensory test. As a result, sous-vided beef sirloin is expected to have several merits over traditional preparation methods.
Objective : This study was designed to determine the effects of sensory integration group therapy with regard to the sensory processing, peer interactions, and task performance, and whether they continue. Methods : Twelve children aged 7 to 13 years enrolled in this study for 60 minutes per session, three times a week for 8 weeks. Sensory integration group therapy consisted of a total of 24 activities that included sensory processing, play skills, and interaction with peers. Short Sensory Profile was used to select subjects. In order to measure the outcome, we used the Short Sensory Profile, Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale and Canadian Occupational Performance Measure at pre, post, and follow-up evaluations. The results were analyzed by means of repeated measures analysis, and the pre-test, post-test, and follow-up tests were compared using the Wilcoxon matched-pair signed rank test. Results : After sensory integration group therapy, sensory processing, peer interaction, and task performance significantly improved(p<.05). In addition, we confirmed that the effects of treatment were maintained in the 4 weeks follow-up test. Conclusion : Sensory integration group therapy is an effective way of mediating effects not only by improving sensory processing skills, but also by providing imitation and training in groups for children in need of peer interaction and linking them to daily life.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the upper limb strength, active joint range of motion (AROM), and upper limb function in persons with chronic stroke using virtual reality training in combination with upper limb sensory stimulation. Design: Two-group pretest-posttest design. Methods: 20 subjects were divided into two groups of 10, the sensory motor stimulation and virtual reality training (SMVR) and virtual reality training (VR) groups. The training was conducted for 30 minutes per session, three times a week for 8 weeks. The participants' upper limb strength was measured via the hand-held dynamometer, joint angle AROM was measured via dual inclinometer, function was measured using the Jebson-Taylor hand function test and the manual function test. Results: Significant differences were observed in all groups before and after the training for upper extremity strength, AROM, and function (p<0.05). Between the two groups, the SMVR group showed significant improvement in muscle strength, AROM, and Jebsen-Taylor hand function test scores compared with the VR groups (p<0.05). Conclusions: In this study, we confirmed that sensory stimulation and VR had positive effects on upper extremity strength, AROM, and function of persons with chronic stroke. The results suggest that in the future, VR in combination with sensory stimulation of the upper limb is likely to become an effective method (a rehabilitation training program) to improve the upper limb function of persons with chronic stroke.
