LTE-R 기반 센서 네트워크의 전송 성능 (Transmission Performance of Sensor Network based on LTE-R)

  • 열차 운행의 정확성과 안정성을 위하여 열차와 열차이동 주변환경 사이의 통신은 필수적인 요소이다. 열차 운행을 지원하기 위해서는 열차와 열차이동 주변 환경 사이에 측정/감시 등을 목적으로 사용되는 센서와 열차 간의 통신 구조와 성능의 분석이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 이동 중에 있는 열차가 열차궤도 주변에 있는 각종 센서장치로부터 측정된 열차운행 및 환경 정보를 효과적으로 수신하고 이를 열차 데이터 관제 센터로 전송하는 LTE-R 기반의 철도 센서네트워크에 대한 성능을 분석하고 철도 센서 네트워크 구축에 필요한 구축 조건을 제시한다.

  • In a wireless sensor network(WSN) each sensor node deals with numerous sensing data elements. For the sake of energy efficiency and network lifetime, sensing data must be handled effectively. A technique used for this is data aggregation. Sending/receiving data involves numerous steps such as MAC layer control packet handshakes and route path setup, and these steps consume energy. Because these steps are involved in all data communication, the total cost increases are related to the counts of data sent/received. Therefore, many studies have proposed sending combined data, which is known as data aggregation. Very effective methods to aggregate sensing data have been suggested, but there is no means of deciding how long the sensor node should wait for aggregation. This is a very important issue, because the wait time affects the total communication cost and data reliability. There are two types of data aggregation; the data counting method and the time waiting method. However, each has weaknesses in terms of the delay. A hybrid method can be adopted to alleviate these problems. But, it cannot provide an optimal point of aggregation. In this paper, we suggest a stochastic-based data aggregation scheme, which provides the cost(in terms of communication and delay) optimal aggregation point. We present numerical analysis and results.

Sensor array optimization techniques for exhaled breath analysis to discriminate diabetics using an electronic nose

  • Disease discrimination using an electronic nose is achieved by measuring the presence of a specific gas contained in the exhaled breath of patients. Many studies have reported the presence of acetone in the breath of diabetic patients. These studies suggest that acetone can be used as a biomarker of diabetes, enabling diagnoses to be made by measuring acetone levels in exhaled breath. In this study, we perform a chemical sensor array optimization to improve the performance of an electronic nose system using Wilks' lambda, sensor selection based on a principal component (B4), and a stepwise elimination (SE) technique to detect the presence of acetone gas in human breath. By applying five different temperatures to four sensors fabricated from different synthetic materials, a total of 20 sensing combinations are created, and three sensing combinations are selected for the sensor array using optimization techniques. The measurements and analyses of the exhaled breath using the electronic nose system together with the optimized sensor array show that diabetic patients and control groups can be easily differentiated. The results are confirmed using principal component analysis (PCA).

Limited Flooding Scheme in Mobile Sensor Networks

  • Mobile Sensor Networks (MSN) is composed of a distributed collection of mobile sensor nodes, each of which has sensing, computation, communication and locomotion capabilities. Since the routing path can be broken when some nodes on the path move to other position, MSN may have a high rate of communication failure. So, MSN has to provide a means for low-cost and low-power routing to support mobility of sensor nodes. In this paper, a limited flooding scheme for routing in MSN is proposed to allow efficient energy utilization without requiring any complicated tasks for path maintenance.

무선센서네트워크에서 센서 데이터 손실과 오류 감소를 위한 데이터 압축 방법 (Data Compression Method for Reducing Sensor Data Loss and Error in Wireless Sensor Networks)

  • Since WSNs (Wireless Sensor Networks) applied to their application areas such as smart home, smart factory, environment monitoring, etc., depend on sensor data, the sensor data is the most important among WSN components. The resources of each node consisting of WSN are extremely limited in energy, hardware and so on. Due to these limitation, communication failure probabilities become much higher and the communication failure causes data loss to occur. For this reason, this paper proposes 2MC (Maximum/Minimum Compression) that is a method to compress sensor data by selecting circular queue-based maximum/minimum sensor data values. Our proposed method reduces sensor data losses and value errors when they are recovered. Experimental results of 2MC method show the maximum/minimum 35% reduction efficiency in average sensor data accumulation error rate after the 3 times compression, comparing with CQP (Circular Queue Compression based on Period) after the compressed data recovering.

u-Healthcare를 위한 바이오 단말기의 개발 현황 (Current Developments of Biomedical Mobile Devices for Ubiquitous Healthcare)

  • Biomedical mobile devices for ubiquitous healthcare consist of biomedical sensors and communication terminal. They have two types of configuration. One is the sensor-network type device using wired or wireless communication with intelligent sensors to acquire biomedical data. The other is the sensor embedded type device, where the data can be acquired directly by itself. There are many examples of sensor network type, such as, fall detection sensor, blood glucose sensor, and ECG sensors networked with commercial PDA phone and commercial phone terminal for ubiquitous healthcare. On the other hand, sensor embedded type mounts blood glucose sensor, accelerometer, and etc. on commercial phone. However, to enable true ubiquitous healthcare, motion sensing is essential, because users go around anywhere and their signals should be measured and monitored, when they are affected by the motion. Therefore, in this paper, two biomedical mobile devices with motion monitoring function were addressed. One is sensor-network type with motion monitoring function, which uses Zigbee communication to measure the ECG, PPG and acceleration. The other is sensor-embedded type with motion monitoring function, which also can measure the data and uses the built-in cellular phone network modem for remote connection. These devices are expected to be useful for ubiquitous healthcare in coming aged society in Korea.

  • 기존 IEEE 802.15.4는 PHY 계층과 MAC 계층에서의 표준을 제공하며 저전력, 저대역폭, 저속 데이터 통신을 특징으로 한다. 이러한 한계점으로 인하여 IEEE 802.15.4는 센서 검출, 홈 네트워크 등의 제한된 용도로만 쓰였으나 최근 음성과 같은 멀티미디어 데이터를 전송하려는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존 센서 네트워크 기반 Peer-to-Peer 음성 통신의 개선을 통해 다수 사용자간의 음성 통신을 지원하기 위하여 새로운 IEEE 802.15.4 PHY 기반 TDMA/TDD MAC을 설계하고 그룹 통신을 할 수 있는 하드웨어를 개발 하였다. 또한 설계된 시스템의 성능을 평가하기 위하여 실험을 통해 Mean Opinion Score (MOS)를 측정 하였으며 이는 사인파를 사용하는 방법을 이용하여 검증하였고 본 논문에서 제안하는 시스템이 실제 환경에서 다양한 응용 솔루션으로 개발 될 수 있음을 기대하였다.

차량 원격 진단 및 관리를 위한 차량 지능 정보시스템의 설계 (Design of an In-vehicle Intelligent Information System for Remote Management)

  • In the ubiquitous computing environment, an intelligent vehicle is defined as a sensor node with a capability of intelligence and communication in a wire and wireless network space. To make it real, a lot of problems should be addressed in the aspect of vehicle mobility, in-vehicle communication, common service platform and the connection of heterogeneous networks to provide a driver with several intelligent information services beyond the time and space. In this paper, we present an intelligent information system for managing in-vehicle sensor network and a vehicle gateway for connecting the external networks. The in-vehicle sensor network connected with several sensor nodes is used to collect sensor data and control the vehicle based on CAN protocol. Each sensor node is equipped with a reusable modular node architecture, which contains a common CAN stack, a message manager and an event handler. The vehicle gateway makes vehicle control and diagnosis from a remote host possible by connecting the in-vehicle sensor network with an external network. Specifically, it gives an access to the external mobile communication network such as CDMA. Some experiments was made to find out how long it takes to communicate between a vehicle's intelligent information system and an external server in the various environment. The results show that the average response time amounts to 776ms at fixed place, 707ms at rural area and 910ms at urban area.

An Energy Awareness Congestion Control Scheme in Wireless Sensor Networks

  • For energy-efficiency in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), when a sensor node detects events, the sensing period for collecting the detailed information is likely to be short. The lifetime of WSNs decreases because communication modules are used excessively on a specific sensor node. To solve this problem, the TARP decentralized network packets to neighbor nodes. It considered the average data transmission rate as well as the data distribution. However, since the existing scheme did not consider the energy consumption of a node in WSNs, its network lifetime is reduced. In this paper, we propose an energy awareness congestion control scheme based on genetic algorithms in WSNs. The proposed scheme considers the remaining amount of energy and the transmission rate on a single node in fitness evaluation. Since the proposed scheme performs an efficient congestion control, it extends the network lifetime. In order to show the superiority of the proposed scheme, we compare it with the existing scheme through performance evaluation. It is shown that the proposed scheme enhances the data fairness and improves the network lifetime by about 27% on average over the existing scheme.

IEEE 1451 기반의 Wireless Smart Sensor Node와 NCAP 시스템의 제안과 구현 (The Proposal and Implementation of Wireless Smart Sensor Node and NCAP System based on the IEEE 1451)

  • IEEE 1451 standard는 네트워크와 transducer간에 표준 interface를 정의한다. 본 논문에서는 IEEE 1451 Standard 기반의 data acquisition system과 무선 smart sensor node를 구성하기 위한 구조적인 모델을 제안한다. 제안 된 Network Capable Application Processor(NCAP)은 data acquisition의 역할과 smart sensor node와 네트워크 사이에 가교 역할을 한다. 또한 무선 sensor node에게 영향을 주지 않으면서 재구성이 가능하고 DB를 이용하여 transducer의 정확한 정보를 얻는다. Smart sensor node는 그 자신에 관한 기본적인 정보를 디지털 형식으로 제공하는 능력을 가지고 있다. 이 디지털 형식은 Transducer Electronic Data Sheet(TEDS)라 하며 sensor node의 plug-and-play 기능을 가능하게 한다. IEEE 1451.4에서 정의하고 있는 TEDS와 Template를 무선 환경에서 적용하기 위해 형식을 간략화 하였으며 ad-hoc routing을 통해 전송이 이루어진다. 본 연구 시스템은 의료정보 서비스를 제공하기 위한 목적으로 체온과 ECG(Electrocardiogram) 센서를 사용하였다. Template 형식은 센서들의 data sheet를 통해 결정하였으며 센서의 특징을 정확히 표현하기 위해 재구성하였다. NCA의 DB는 다양한 센서 개발에 따라 새로운 Template 및 하부 항목의 등록이 가능하도록 구현하였다.
