This paper proposes a novel centralized clustering algorithm, "RLCA : Relative Location based Clustering Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks," for constructing geographically well-distributed clusters in general WSNs. RLCA does not use GPS and controls selection-rate of cluster-head based on distances between sensors and BS. We empirically show that RLCA's energy efficiency is higher than LEACH's.

In this paper, we propose a widerange array microphone for lecturer tracked with Frequency Modulated Continuous Waveform (FMCW) radar sensor. Time Difference-of-Arrival (TDoA) is often used as audio tracking, but the tracking accuracy is poor because the frequency of the voice is low and the relative frequency change is large. FMCW radar has a simple structure and is used to detect obstacles for vehicles, and the resolution can be archived to several centimeter. It is shown that the sensor is useful for detecting a speaker in open area such as a lecture, and we propose an wide range 4-element array microphone beamforming system. Through some experiments, the proposed system is able to adequately track the location and showed a 8.6dB improvement over the selection of the best microphone.

The data gathering delay and the network lifetime are important indicators to measure the service quality of wireless sensor and actuator networks (WSANs). This study proposes a dynamically cluster head (CH) selection strategy and automatic scheduling scheme of collectors for prolonging the network lifetime and shorting data gathering delay in WSAN. First the monitoring region is equally divided into several subregions and each subregion dynamically selects a sensor node as CH. These can balance the energy consumption of sensor node thereby prolonging the network lifetime. Then a task allocation method based on genetic algorithm is proposed to uniformly assign tasks to actuators. Finally the trajectory of each actuator is optimized by ant colony optimization algorithm. Simulations are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method and the results show that the method performs better to extend network lifetime while also reducing data delay.

LEACH is a important hierarchical protocol in wireless sensor network. In LEACH, the head is randomly selected for balanced energy consume. In LEACH-C, the node that has more energy than the average value is selected for the network life cycle. However, the round continues, the improved protocol is needed because the energy and network are changed. In this paper, LEACH, LEACH-C is not considered the energy consumed in the round because of wasted energy and reduce the time for presenting a new round time was set. And proposed the new algorithm using the energy threshold for the cluster head selection and the round time. In simulation, we show the improved performance compared to existing protocols.
This paper deals with the selection method of effective engineering design problem based on LEGO Mindstorm NXT for basic design education. By YouTube case study of various LEGO-based engineering designs for olympic sports, performance criteria have been developed including programming complexity, structural complexity, sensor/actuator complexity and variety of game operation. Programming complexity includes range of programming code length and possible program variety. Structural complexity includes variety of structural elements such as length, shape, weight, and volume to overcome design restrictions. Sensor/actuator complexity includes variety of sensor used and number of possible actuator assemblies. Variety of game operation includes game complexity and required creativity to make LEGO robots. Based on these performance criteria, four representative sports were selected as the candidates for effective engineering design problem. Finally, feasibility and attributes of each candidate were verified by real implementation examples.

Recently, deploying WiFi access points (APs) for facilitating indoor localization has attracted increasing attention. However, most existing mechanisms in this aspect are typically simulation based and further they did not consider how to jointly utilize pre-existing APs in target environment and newly deployed APs for achieving high localization performance. In this paper, we propose a measurement-based AP deployment mechanism (MAPD) for placing APs in target indoor environment for assisting fingerprint based indoor localization. In the mechanism design, MAPD takes full consideration of pre-existing APs to assist the selection of good candidate positions for deploying new APs. For this purpose, we first choose a number of candidate positions with low location accuracy on a radio map calibrated using the pre-existing APs and then use over-deployment and on-site measurement to determine the actual positions for AP deployment. MAPD uses minimal mean location error and progressive greedy search for actual AP position selection. Experimental results demonstrate that MAPD can largely reduce the localization error as compared with existing work.

Communication cost is the most important factor in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), as exchanging control keying messages consumes a large amount of energy from the constituent sensor nodes. Time-based Dynamic Keying and En-Route Filtering (TICK) can reduce the communication costs by utilizing local time values of the en-route nodes to generate one-time dynamic keys that are used to encrypt reports in a manner that further avoids the regular keying or re-keying of messages. Although TICK is more energy efficient, it employs no re-encryption operation strategy that cannot determine whether a healthy report might be considered as malicious if the clock drift between the source node and the forwarding node is too large. Secure SOurce-BAsed Loose Synchronization (SOBAS) employs a selective encryption en-route in which fixed nodes are selected to re-encrypt the data. Therefore, the selection of encryption nodes is non-adaptive, and the dynamic network conditions (i.e., The residual energy of en-route nodes, hop count, and false positive rate) are also not focused in SOBAS. We propose an energy efficient selection of re-encryption nodes based on fuzzy logic. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method achieves better energy conservation at the en-route nodes along the path when compared to TICK and SOBAS.

In this paper, we propose a Sensing Resolution-based Grouping(SRG) protocol for wireless sensor networks. SRG is intended for meeting the application's sensing objectives, where sensor nodes are densely deployed and have the determinate accuracy requirement. The primary contribution of this paper is active group header node selection and round-robin procedure, which increase the sensing accuracy and evenly distribute the node energy consumption. The second contribution is use of energy efficient intermediate node selection by considering group size and energy consumption. We present the design principle of SRG and provide simulation results.

This paper is about to improve the network life's reduction due to the deviation of sensor node and frequently change of network, the main problem of sensor network. The existing Scalable Topology Organization(STO)-based ZigBee Tree Topology Control Algorithm did not consider ways to consume power so the network lifetime is too short. Accordingly, per each round, electing a new parent node and consisting of the new network topology technique, The Cluster Header Selection, extending the network's overall lifetime. The OMNet++ Simulator yielded results from the existing STO Algorithm and the proposed Cluster Header Selection Technique in the same experimental environment, which resulted in an increase in overall network life by about 40% and an improvement of about 10% in performance in the remaining portion of the battery.

Small-sized IoT wireless sensing devices can be deployed with small aircraft such as drones, and the deployment of mobile IoT devices can be relocated to suit data collection with efficient relocation algorithms. However, the terrain may not be able to predict its shape. Mobile IoT devices suitable for these terrains are hopping devices that can move with jumps. So far, most hopping sensor relocation studies have made the unrealistic assumption that all hopping devices know the overall state of the entire network and each device's current state. Recent work has proposed the most realistic distributed network environment-based relocation algorithms that do not require sharing all information simultaneously. However, since the shortest path-based algorithm performs communication and movement requests with terminals, it is not suitable for an area where the distribution of obstacles is uneven. The proposed scheme applies a simple Monte Carlo method based on relay nodes selection random variables that reflect the obstacle distribution's characteristics to choose the best relay node as reinforcement learning, not specific relay nodes. Using the relay node selection random variable could significantly reduce the generation of additional messages that occur to select the shortest path. This paper's additional contribution is that the world's first distributed environment-based relocation protocol is proposed reflecting real-world physical devices' characteristics through the OMNeT++ simulator. We also reconstruct the three days-long disaster environment, and performance evaluation has been performed by applying the proposed protocol to the simulated real-world environment.
