Enhancement methods of sensitivity to in-plane strain measurement by micro-ESPI(Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry) technique were proposed using TiN and Au thin films. Micro-tensile strain over the micro-tensile specimens, prepared in micro-scale by those films, was measured by micro-tensile loading system and micro-ESPI system developed in this study. The subsequent measurement of in-plane tensile strain in the micro-sized specimens was introduced using the micro-ESPI technique, and the micro-tensile stress-strain curves for these films were determined. To enhance the sensitivity to measurement of in-plane tensile strain, algorithms of the phase estimation by using curve fitting of inter-fringe and the discrete Fourier Transform with object-induced dynamic phase shifting were developed. Using these two algorithms, the micro-tensile strain-stress curves were generated. It is shown that the algorithms for enhancement of the sensitivity suggested in this study make the sensitivity to measurement of the in-plane tensile strain increase.

Background: Red ginseng has been found to improve ocular perfusion and dry eye syndrome in glaucomatous eyes; however, its effects on visual function and vision-related quality of life have not been investigated. This study sought to evaluate the effects of red ginseng on visual function and vision-related quality of life in glaucoma patients using contrast sensitivity and a questionnaire. Methods: Participants were randomly assigned to two groups in this prospective, randomized, double-blind study: in one group, red ginseng was taken first, followed by a placebo, and in the other, placebo was taken first, followed by red ginseng. We measured and compared changes in contrast sensitivity and vision-related quality of life between the two groups. Contrast sensitivity was measured using OPTEC® 6500P, and vision-related quality of life was evaluated using the 25-item National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire. One-way and two-way repeated measure analyses of variance were used for the comparison. Relationships between respective changes in dry eye syndrome and contrast sensitivity were also analyzed. Results: Daytime contrast sensitivity and ocular pain improved after the administration of red ginseng. Nighttime contrast sensitivity was improved in early or moderate glaucoma. Improved contrast sensitivity was not associated with improvement in dry eye syndrome. Conclusion: Red ginseng could improve contrast sensitivity and ocular pain in patients with glaucoma. The mechanism underlying improvement in contrast sensitivity appears to be associated with enhanced retinal perfusion or retinal ganglion cell function, but not dry eye syndrome.
This paper describes design improvement to a research rector for safety enhancement using Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA). This PSA under reactor design was undertaken to assess the level of safety for the design of a research reactor and to evaluate whether it is probabilistically safe to operate and reliable to use. The scope of the PSA reported here is a Level 1 PSA, which addresses the risks associated with the core damage. The technical objectives of this study were to identify accident sequences leading to core damage and to derive design improvement from the dominant accident sequences through the sensitivity analysis. The AIMS-PSA and FTREX were used for the this PSA of the research reactor. The criterion for inclusion was all sequences with a point estimate frequency greater than a truncation value of 1.0E-14/yr. The final result indicates a point estimate of 6.79E-05/yr for the overall Core Damage Frequency (CDF) attributable to internal initiating events for the research reactor under design. Based on the dominant accident sequences from the PSA, the seven kinds of sensitivity analysis were performed and some design improvement items were derived. When the five methods to improve the safety were all applied to the reactor design and emergency operating procedure, its risk was reduced to about 1.21E-06/yr from 6.79E-05/yr. The contribution of LOCA and LOEP with high CDF were significantly reduced by the sensitivity analysis. The safety of the research reactor was well improved and the risk was reduced than before adapting the design improvement gotten from the sensitivity analysis. The present study indicated that the research reactor has the well-balanced safety in regard to each initiating event contribution to CDF. The PSA methodology is very effective to improve reactor safety in a conceptual design phase and especially, Risk-informed design(RID) is very nice way to find the deficiencies of research reactor under design and to improve the reactor safety by solving them.

Purpose: We performed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in mild to moderate myopia patients to evaluate the benefit of taking a nutrient supplement containing anthocyanoside oligomers for improving nocturnal visiual function and/or clinical symptoms. Methods: The subjects included have refractive error between -lD(Diopters) $\~$-8D in both eyes, symptoms of decreased night vision and asthenopia based on the scoring result of a pre-structured questionnaire, and abnormal results of mesopic contrast sensitivity(MCS) screening test showing abnormal curve of contrast sensitivity in the middle and high frequency level, between 6.0 and 30.0 CPD(Cycles per degree) at mesopic condition(-2$\~$0 log cd/$m^2$). Total 60 people who qualified the criteria above were enrolled and the subjects were instructed to take the investigational product (anthocyanoside or placebo) twice daily for a 4 week period. The enrolled subjects were investigated for nocturnal vision performance by MCS and clinical symptoms at their first visit and re-evaluated at post-intervention (4 weeks later). MCS was measured and improvement of contrast threshold level according to each CPD was calculated by subtracting initial values from final values. Age, refractive error, and MCS were compared between the placebo and anthocyanoside. Results: After 4 weeks of drug administration 22 of the anthocyanoside group showed symptom improvement compared to 1 of the placebo group (p=0.000). Contrast sensitivity levels according to each CPD before and after drug treatment showed significant improvement in the anthocyanoside group but not in the placebo group. Mean MCS change of anthocyanoside group is 2.41$\pm$1.91 which showed significant improvement compared to -0.40$\pm$2.47 of the placebo group(p=0.000). MCS changes of anthocyanoside group showed significant improvement compared to placebo group in all levels of CPD(p<0.05). During our investigation none of the subjects complained of specific side effects related to anthocyanoside use. Conclusion: Our results show that under careful selection of people with significant symptoms and definite MCS abnormalities, anthocyanoside oligomers may improve the subjective symptoms and objective MCS results.

In this paper, a sensitivity analysis is proceeded to improve the network of manufacturing process by converting the qualitative network into GERT Network and by finding equivalent probability, MFG's of variables and sensitivity equation in GERT Network. Sensitivity analysis of GERT Network is important in evaluating, reviewing and improving system. System improvement in GERT Network is achieved by increasing the equivalent probability and by decreasing the equivalent time.

In the fiber-optic gyroscope employing the erbium-doped fiber source, the source excess noise was subtracted through a signal processing to improve the gyroscope sensitivity . As the result, we obtained the improvement of 14 dB(electrical) at the proper frequency, which was measured from the noise floor spectrum . In addition the random walk coefficient in the gyro output was reduced by about factor of three.

Design sensitivity analysis of Eigen Problem give systematic design improvement information for noise and vibration of a system. Based on reliable results form commercial FE code(UAI/NASTRAN), three computational procedures for design sensitivity analysis of eigen problem are suggested. Those methods are finite difference, design sensitivity analysis using external module and design sensitivity analysis running with NASTRAN. To verify the suggested methods, a numerical example is given and these results are compared with the results from UAI/NASTRAN eigen sensitivity option. We can conclude that design sensitivity coefficient of eigen proplems can be computed outside of the FE code as easy as inside of the FE code.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the experience-based ecology-environmental STEAM education on ecological sensitivity of elementary students. The research subjects were 62 third graders of S elementary school located in Incheon. They were divided into the experimental group of 33 students and the comparative group of 29 students. The experimental group was provided the educational program with the experience-based ecology-environmental STEAM education. The comparative group was provided the theoretical and ecological self activity program based on the textbook. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; First, the experience-based ecology-environmental STEAM education had a meaningful effect on improvement of ecological sensitivity. Second, we found that access to the ecological environment education is important in all subjects, not in education that is biased toward. Third, in ecological environment education, experience-oriented education methods are more meaningful than indirect experiences trapped in textbooks. Fourth, ecological environment education can contribute to the improvement of ecological sensitivity as well as the intellectual aspect of ecology and environmental science. In conclusion, it was found that the ecological environment program should be conducted with activities of experience.

A method for performing kinematic design sensitivity analysis of vehicle suspension systems is presented. For modeling of vehicle suspensions, the multibody dynamic formulation is adopted, where suspensions are assumed as combination of rigid bodies and ideal frictionless joints. In a relative joint coordinate setting, kinematic constraint equations are obtained by imposing cut-joints that transform closed-loop shape suspension systems into open-loop systems. By directly differentiating the constraint equations with respect to kinematic design variables, such as length of bodies, notion axis, etc., sensitivity equations are derived. By solving the sensitivity equations, sensitivity of static design factors that can be used for design improvement, can be obtained. The validity and usefulness of the method are demonstrated through an example where kinematic sensitivity analysis of a MacPherson strut suspension of performed.
We demonstrate the improvement of sensitivity and analysis of operating characteristics of the piezoelectric pressure sensor using ZnO piezoelectric thin film and FET(field effect transistor) for sensing applied pressure and transforming the pressure into electrical signals, respectively. The sensitivity of the PSFET(pressure sensitive field effect transistor) was improved by using highly-oriented ZnO film perpendicular to the substrate surface and the operating characteristics was investigated by monitoring output voltage with time in various static pressure levels.
