  • It is well known that the metallo-phthalocyanines (MPcs) are sensitive to toxic gaseous molecules such as NO$_2$ as well as are chemically and thermally stable. Therefore, lots of MPcs have been studied as the potential chemical sensor for NO$_2$gas using quartz crystal microbalance(QCM) or electrical conductivity. In this study, thin films of octa(2-ethylhexyloxy)copper-phthalocyanine were prepared by Langmuir-Blodgett method and characterized by using UV-VIS absorption spectroscopy and ellipsometry. Optimal transfer condition of LB films was investigated and preliminary results of current-voltage(I-V) characteristics of these films exposed to NO$_2$gas as a function of film thickness, temperature and concentration were discussed.

  • This paper is concerned with a two-degree-offreedom control system design for a flexible arm, a two-degree-of-frecdom control system can achieve a robust stability specification and a control performance specification independently. By this property we improve the control performance with maintaining the same robust stability level as that of the onc-dcgree-of-freedom control system. At First we design a two-degree-of-fteedom control system which includes a feedforward controller and a feedback controller. The feedforward controller can be given by specifying a transfer function of a dcsired closed-loop model. We obtain a feedback controller by solving a mixed sensitivity problem. Several numerical results show that two-degree-of-freedom control systems acheive a better control performance than that of one-degree-of-freedom control systems.

  • Periodic disturbance compensators are widely used in track following servo systems. They are commonly designed and implemented by adaptive feedforward compensators or internal model based compensators. In track following servo systems, the gains of the compensators should be determined considering the change of the sensitivity transfer function and the implementation methods should be selected considering the system environment. This paper proposes a guide for determining gains of the periodic disturbance compensators. Various simulation and experimental results are presented to see the effect of gains. In addition, this paper introduces the various types of implementation methods and compares their merits and demerits.

  • The experimental method of measuring dynamic properties of structures was presented. The method is based on the flexural wave propagation characteristics. Using the method, change in structural dynamic properties due to damage is measured. The crack has much more significant impact on the strain energy than the inertial effects. From this, the sensitivity of the dynamic stiffness on the crack location is estimated by calculating the strain energy. When the wave propagates, the strain and kinetic energies shows cyclic changed over space. The crack that occurred at locations where the wave energy is in the form of the potential energy affected most significantly the wave propagation characteristics. The effects of crack location on the wave propagation were used to determine the crack location.

  • In order to analyze lateral control in the backward maneuver of a tractor -trailer combination , a kinematic vehicle model and a human operator model with time delay were utilized for the operator/vehicle system. The analysis was carried out using the frequency domain approach. The open-loop stability of the vehicle motion was analyzed through the transfer functions. The sensitivity of the stability of the vehicle motion. to a change in the steering angle, was also analyzed. A mathematical model of the closed -loop operator/vehicle system was then formulated. The closed -loop stability of the operator /vehicle system was then analyzed. The effect of the delay time on the system was also analyzed through computer simulation.

  • In this paper the system called the inverse model compensation system is proposed as a system whose input-output transfer function can be regarded as that of a model with uncertainty in spite of including an unknown plant. And their to construct the robust model following system, which is of low sensitivity and robust stability, in order to control the inverse model compensation system is proposed. The simulation experiments show that the robust model following system including the inverse model compensation system is practical and useful as a system which controls unknown plants.

  • The turbulent buoyancy-driven flow in 2-dimensional enclosed cavities heated from the vertical side is numerically calculated for both cases of a Rayleigh number of 5*10$^{10}$ for air and 2.5*10$^{10}$ for water. Three different turbulence models are considered : standard k-.epsilon. model of Ozoe and low-Reynolds-number model of Lam and Bremhorst, and another low-Reynolds-number model of Davidson. The results indicate that the use of low-Reynolds number models is recommended for the indoor airflow computation, and the results from Davidson model are reasonably close to the reported experimental data. A sensitivity study shows that the amounts of wall-heat transfer and the velocity profiles with the Lam and Bremhorst model largely depend on the choice of the wall function for .epsilon..

  • To design a control system, it is a elementary point that the stability of the system should be guaranteed. Also, the phase of the system plays an important role for its frequence performance. In this paper, we present two stability criterion of repetitive control system with phase-lead and lag compensator. First, the stability criterion for the servo control system with phase-lead and lag compensator is shown by using small-gain theorem. Second, for the repetitive control system with the compensator, the stability criterion, also, is determined by using small-gain theorem. Two stability criterions show the same results that the stability depends on a coefficient of the phase-lead and lag compensator under some condition in servo control system and repetitive control system.

  • The conventional neural network models are a parody of biological neural structures, and have very slow learning. In order to emulate some dynamic functions, such as learning and adaption, and to better reflect the dynamics of biological neurons, M.M. Gupta and D.H. Rao have developed a 'dynamic neural model'(DNU). Proposed neural unit model is to introduce some dynamics to the neuron transfer function, such that the neuron activity depends on internal states. Integrating an dynamic elementry processor within the neuron allows the neuron to act dynamic response Numerical examples are presented for a model system. Those case studies showed that the proposed DNU is so useful in practical sense.

  • The range resolution of echo sounders can be improved by enhancing the transducer bandwidth. We designed a bandpass matching network for expanding the bandwidth of a transducer by scaling in both impedance and frequency after transforming a lowpass network into a bandpass configuration for a third-order Bessel filter. We measured the effect of the Bessel matching network for a 50 kHz sandwich type transducer on the transmitting voltage response (TVR), receiving sensitivity (SRT) and figure of merit (FOM), using a chirp echo sounder system. Both the simulation and experimental results indicated that the transducer with a bandpass matching network was capable of producing a symmetrical acoustic output over a wider bandwidth (8.25 kHz) than was the transducer without a matching network (3.75 kHz). By implementing the Bessel matching network, we achieved a 120% bandwidth enhancement.
