Reactions of 2-methyl-2-chloroadamantane (1) in a variety of pure and binary solvents have been studied at various temperatures and pressures up to 80 MPa. The sensitivity (m) to changes in solvent ionizing power of the Grunwald-Winstein equation, and the activation volume (${\Delta}V^{\ddag}$) are calculated from the specific rates. An excellent linear relationship (R = 0.997) for 1, log (k/$k_0$) = $0.80Y_{Cl}$ + 0.11, and the activation volume, ${\Delta}V^{\ddag}$ = -15.2 ~ -10.2 $mL{\cdot}mol^{-1}$ were observed. These values are similar to those for solvolyses of 1-adamantyl halides over the full range of solvents, suggesting that the unimolecular mechanism involving ion pairs is rate-determining. These observations are also compared with those previously reported for the corresponding 1-adamantyl derivatives and chloroformate esters.
In this research the effect of seismic design level as a practical approach for progressive collapse mitigation and reaching desired structural safety against it in seismically designed concentric braced frame buildings was investigated. It was achieved by performing preliminary and advanced progressive collapse analysis of several split-X braced frame buildings, designed for each seismic zone according to UBC 97 and by applying various Seismic Load Factors (SLFs). The outer frames of such structures were studied for collapse progression while losing one column and connected brace in the first story. Preliminary analysis results showed the necessity of performing advanced element loss analysis, consisting of Vertical Incremental Dynamic Analysis (VIDA) and Performance-Based Analysis (PBA), in order to compute the progressive collapse safety of the structures while increasing SLF for each seismic zone. In addition, by sensitivity analysis it became possible to introduce the equation of structural safety against progressive collapse for concentrically braced frames as a function of SLF for each seismic zone. Finally, the equation of progressive collapse safety as a function of bracing member capacity was presented.

In this paper the fuzzy extension for the classical engineering mechanics problems is studied. The
governing differential equation is derived for the buckling loads of the columns with uncertain mediums:
the their own weight and the flexural rigidity. The columns with one typical end constraint(hinged1
clarnped/free) and the other finite rotational spring with fuzzy constant are considered in numerical
examples. The vertex method is used to evaluate the fuzzy functions. The Runge-Kutta method and Determinant
Search method are used to solve the differential equation and determine the buckling loads, respectively.
The membership functions of the buckling load are calculated. The index of fuzziness to quantitatively
describe the propagation of fuzziness is defined. According to the fuzziness of governing factors,
the varlation of index of fuzziness for buckling load is investigated, and the sensitivity for the end
constraints is analyzed.
This report shows the rates of solvolyses for phenyl methanesulfonyl chloride ($C_6H_5CH_2SO_2Cl$, I) in ethanol, methanol, and aqueous binary mixtures incorporating ethanol, methanol, acetone, 2,2,2-trifluroethanol (TFE) and 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP) are reported. Three representative solvents, studies were made at several temperatures and activation parameters were determined. The thirty kinds of solvents gave a reasonably precise extended Grunwald-Winstein plot, coefficient (R) of 0.954. The sensitivity values (l = 0.61 and m = 0.34, l/m = 1.8) of phenyl methanesulfonyl chloride (I) were smaller than those obtained for benzenesulfonyl chloride ($C_6H_5SO_2Cl$, II; l = 1.01 and m = 0.61) and 2-propanesulfonyl chloride ($(CH_3)_2CHSO_2Cl$, III; l = 1.28 and m = 0.64). As with the two previously studied solvolyses, an $S_N2$ pathway with somewhat ionization reaction is proposed for the solvolyses of I. The activation parameters, ${\Delta}H^{\neq}$ and ${\Delta}S^{\neq}$, were determined and they are also in line with values expected for a bimolecular reaction mechanism. The kinetic solvent isotope effect of 2.34 in $CH_3OH/CH_3OD$ is in accord with a bimolecular mechanism, probably assisted by general-base catalysis.

This study was designed to satisfy induced voltage limits considering drive's specifications and optimize design reducing usage of permanent magnet, by increasing salient poles ratio, when designing 150kW IPMSM. In order to achieve these objectives, design plans were determined, based on Ld and Lq parameters of a basic design model, according to changes in salient poles ratio and flux linkage using IPMSM's voltage equation and torque equation and then, required torque and induced voltage were analyzed using Sensitivity Analysis. Based on analysis data, the optimum design was performed and basic model's characteristics were compared to final model's through Gradient-Based Optimization Technique.
Uncertainties generated from the individual measured variables have an influence on the uncertainty of the experimental result through a data reduction equation. In this study, a performance test of a single stage axial type turbine is conducted, and total-to-total efficiencies are measured at the various off-design points In the low pressure and cold state. Based on an experimental apparatus, a data reduction equation for turbine efficiency is formulated and six measured variables are selected. Codes are written to calculate the efficiency, the uncertainty of the efficiency, and the sensitivity of the efficiency uncertainty by each of the measured quantities. The influence of each measured variable on the experimental result is figured out. Results show that the largest uncertainty magnification factor (UMF) value is obtained by the inlet total pressure among the six measured variables, and its value is always greater than one. The UMF values of the inlet total temperature, the torque, and the RPM are always one. The uncertainty percentage contribution (UPC) of the RPM shows th, lowest influence on the uncertainty of the turbine efficiency, but the UPC of the torque has the largest influence to the result among the measured variables. These results are applied to find the correct direction for meeting an uncertainty requirement of the experimental result in the planning or development Phase of experiment, and also to offer ideas for preparing a measurement system in the planning phase.
This paper presents an optimal pattern for distributing stiffness along a framed tube structure through an analytic equation, which may be used during the preliminary design stage. Most studies in this field are computationally intensive and time consuming, while a hand-calculation method, as presented here, is a more suitable tool for sensitivity analyses and parametric studies. Approach in development of the analytic model is to minimize the mean compliance (external work) for a given volume of material. A variational statement of the problem is made, and a specified deformation-profile is obtained as the necessary condition for a minimum; enforcing this condition, stiffness is then computed. Due to some near-zero values for stiffness, the problem is modified by considering a lower bound constraint. To deal with this constraint, the design domain is assumed to be divided into two zones of constant stiffness and constant curvature; and the problem is restated in terms of these concepts. It will be shown that this methodology allows for easy computation of stiffness through an analytic and dimensionless equation, valid in any system of units. To show practicality of the proposed method, a tubed-system structure with uniform stiffness distribution is redesigned using the proposed model. Comparative analyses of the results reveal that in addition to simplicity of the proposed method, it provides a rather high degree of accuracy for real-world problems.
Dual channel Radiometer for Earth and Atmospheric Monitoring (DREAM) is the main payload on Science and Technology SATellite-2 (STSAT-2) of Korea. DREAM is two-channel microwave radiometer with linear polarization, and operating at center frequencies of 23.8 GHz and 37 GHz. An equation for DREAM calibration is derived which accounts for losses and re-radiation in the microwave components of the radiometer due to physical temperature. This paper describes the radiometric calibration equation to get antenna temperature ($T_A$) from the measured output data. At lower altitude, the measured deep space temperature is contaminated by middle atmosphere and earth radiation. In this paper, we presented the detail mathematical formulation to find the altitude up to which cold source brightness temperature is not affected by earth and middle atmosphere radiation. The DREAMPFM data is used to calculate the performance parameters (linearity, sensitivity, dynamic range, and etc.) of the system.

Parametric pitch instability of a Deep Draft Semi-submersible platform (DDS) is investigated in irregular waves. Parametric pitch is a form of parametric instability, which occurs when parameters of a system vary with time and the variation satisfies a certain condition. In previous studies, analyzing of parametric instability is mainly limited to regular waves, whereas the realistic sea conditions are irregular waves. Besides, parametric instability also occurs in irregular waves in some experiments. This study predicts parametric pitch of a Deep Draft Semi-submersible platform in irregular waves. Heave motion of DDS is simulated by wave spectrum and response amplitude operator (RAO). Then Hill equation for DDS pitch motion in irregular waves is derived based on linear-wave theory. By using Bubnov-Galerkin approach to solve Hill equation, the corresponding stability chart is obtained. The differences between regular-waves stability chart and irregular-waves stability chart are compared. Then the sensitivity of wave parameters on DDS parametric pitch in irregular waves is discussed. Based on the discussion, some suggestions for the DDS design are proposed to avoid parametric pitch by choosing appropriate parameters. The results indicate that it's important and necessary to predict DDS parametric pitch in irregular waves during design process.
Boric acid is used as a coolant for pressurized-water reactors, and the degree of burnup is controlled by the concentration of boric acid. Therefore, accurate measurement of the concentration of boric acid is an important factor in reactor safety. An improved system was proposed for the accurate determination of boron concentration. A new boron-concentration measurement technique, called multisensitive detection, was developed to improve the measurement accuracy of boron meters. In previous studies, laboratory-scale experiments were performed based on different sensitivity detectors, confirming a 65% better accuracy than conventional single-detector boron meters. Based on these experimental results, an experimental system simulating the coolant-circulation environment in the reactor was constructed; accuracy analysis of the boron meter with a multisensitivity detector was performed at the actual coolant pressure and temperature. In this study, the boron concentration conversion equation was derived from the calibration test, and the accuracy of the boron concentration conversion equation was examined through a repeatability test. Through the experiment, it was confirmed that the accuracy was up to 87.5% higher than the conventional single-detector boron meter.
