  • Cloud's properties can be showed on different spectral channel. The 0.65${\mu}$m reflectance is mainly function of cloud optical thickness and reflectance of 1.6${\mu}$m is sensitive to cloud phase and particle size distribution. So we can use multi-spectral information to analysis cloud's microphysical properties.

  • Two MODIS instruments on board the Terra and Aqua Satellites are operational for global remote sensing of the land, ocean and atmosphere. Atmospheric sounding data with a high spatial resolution from MODIS will provide a wealth of useful information. The vertical air temperature and moisture data were retrieved using the MODIS data, and compared with the radiosonde data obtained in the Korean Peninsula. The correlation coefficient are 0.99 and 0.89 for air temperature and moisture cases, respectively. Air temperature data were relatively good agreement, but the moisture data from MODIS were underestimated.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the relationship between GMS image data and hourly observed rainfalls data. Heavy rainfall cases over South Korea on 10th September 1990 and on 29th July 1993 were selected for studying of the relationship between the image data and reinfalls. First, image data were converted to TBB(Temperature of Black Body) and albedo and then these values were extracted for the pixels closest to the surface observation station to correlate with the rainfall data. Horizontal distribution of TBB and albedo tells roughly rainfall regions. The correlation between rainfall and TBB is found to be very low in quantitative analysis. The weak relationship between the brighter albedo and the higher rainfall probability is observed. This study suggests that the TBB values are useful in classifying rain areas and for heavy rainfalls the albedo values are more useful than the TBB. Low linear correlation between the fields may be attributed to the neglect of cloud types in this study.

  • In Arctic and Antarctic ocean, remote sensing is the most effective observation for environmental changes due to the inaccessibility of the regions. Even though satellite, UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehical) are well known remote sensing platforms, and research vessel also used for automatic measurement on the regions, varied environment of Polar regions require time series and wide coverage of data. Especially, in high latitude, apply an optical satellite remote sensing is not easy due to low sun altitude. In this paper, we introduce an operation of hyper-spectrometer (HyperSAS/Satlantic inc.) which is mounted on Ice Breaker Research Vessel ARAON of Korea Polar Research Institute since 2010, to acquire an above water reflectance atomatically through every research cruise on Arctic and Antarctic ocean and transit both regions. In addition to, auxiliary data for the remotely acquired data, in situ water sampling were also obtained. The above water reflectance and in situ water sampling data are continuously acquired since 2010 will contribute to improve an Ocean Color algorithm in the high latitude and help to understand ocean reflectances over from high latitude through low latitude. Preliminary result from above water reflectance showed characteristics of Arctic ocean and Antarctic Ocean and used to develop algorithms for estimating various ocean factors such as chlorophyll and suspended sediment.

  • This paper proposes an monitoring system of elder and feeble person's motion activity using an object's motion activity data. The proposed system used wireless 3-axis sensor module, product by Freescale(Wireless Sensing Triple Axis Reference Design Board (ZSTAR)). We distribute sensing data into three classes using Neural Network System SVM. We find performance of proposed system that simulate some case about walk, past walk, fallen. Classify result data and graph of sensing data present succes rate 80%.

  • Forest canopy density is an essentially important for maintaining the diversify flora and fauna in the tropic. But, the natural and human disturbances have an influence over the inconsistency of forest canopy density. So, forest canopy density (FCD) has been threatened in the tropic since a decade. The objective of this study was to examine the dynamics change of the forest canopy density in tropical forest Chitwan, Nepal combine with field survey and remote sensing data. The field survey data of 2001 such as canopy cover percentage, dbh so on and some human disturbances were used. Similarly, Landsat TM 1988 and ETM+ 2001 have also used to predict the dynamic changes of the FCD over the period. Moreover, nonparametric Kruskal- Wallis test has performed for the validation of the results. Data analysis revealed that very few factors i.e. the number of trees, path, and fire had realized statistically significance at P=<0.05. Therefore we concluded that detail analysis could be needed incorporate with additional socioeconomic, climatic, biophysical and institutional factors for the better understanding of the forest canopy dynamic in particular location.
