  • We developed a part of stroke sensing cylinder for position control of automatic excavator and its measurement system. In this paper, for development of stroke sensing cylinder, we consist of 2-axis control instrument system with Hall sensor. A performance of piston rod with magnetic scales is evaluated by the developed measurement system. Furthermore, the position control for good performance of instrument system is achieved by a sliding mode control which is a new method diminishing the chattering in that control by setting 2-dead band along the swtching line. The unknown parameters for sliding mode control are estimated by the signal compression method.

  • In this paper, a digital average current mode control using diode current sensing technique is proposed. Although the conventional inductor current sensing technique is widely used, the sensed signal of the current is negative. As a result, it requires an additional circuit to be applied to general digital controller ICs. The proposed diode current sensing method not only minimizes the peripheral circuit around the digital IC but also consumes less power to sense current information than the inductor current sensing method. The feasibility of the proposed technique is verified by experiments using a 500W power factor correction (PFC) boost rectifier.

  • We have developed a part of hydraulic stroke sensing cylinder using magnetic sensor that can detect each position under severe construction fields. In this paper, for evaluating the developed cylinder under various environment condition, thermal control systems and two hydraulic systems to be coupled consist of. The former is composed of an heater case, temperature sensor, and interface circuits which include SCR(silicon controlled rectifier) for the control of the voltage's phase. The latter is composed of an hydraulic cylinder for position control with solenoid valve (ON/OFF motion) and a load cylinder with proportional reducing valve. To obtain the various performance evaluation, it is carried out under high temperature condition in thermal system controlled by using Ziegler-Nichols PID tuning method and artificial disturbances such as impulse or constant force. The results show that the developed cylinder has good performance under the various environment condition.

  • On-line phase tracking of an extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometer (EFPI) and experimental vibration control of a composite beam with a sensing-patch are investigated. We propose a sensing-patch for the compensation of the interferometric non-linearity. In this paper. a sensing-patch that comprises an EFPI and a piezo ceramic(PZT) is fabricated and the characteristics of the sensing-patch are experimentally investigated. A simple and practical logic is applied for the real-time tracking of optical phase of an interferometer Experimental results show that the proposed sensing-patch does not have the non-linear behavior of conventional EFPI and hysteresis of piezoelectric material. Moreover, it has good strain resolution and wide dynamic sensing range. Finally, the vibration control with the developed sensing-patch has been performed using Fuzzy logic controller, and the possibility of sensing-patch as a sensoriactuator is considered.

  • The clean tube system was developed as a means of transferring air-floated wafers inside a closed tube filled with super clean air. This paper presents a wafer position sensing method in the clean tube system, where the photo proximity sensors are used. The first presented method uses the two positions sensed lately in order to compute the wafer center position. The next method uses the latest sensed position and the next latest position compensated with the information of the wafer velocity. The third method uses the kalman filter, which enable us to use all the previous sensing information. The simulation results are compared to show results of the presented method. In addition, the paper presents a control method to stop the wafer at the center of the unit in the clean tube system. The experimental clean tube system worked successfully with the applying the both presented methods of sensing and control.

  • In this paper, we addressed the node positioning method for minimizing the sensing energy consumption in wireless sensor networks with adjustable sensing ranges. It is necessary for minimizing the sensing energy consumption to minimize the overlapped sensing area by neighboring nodes. To find a optimal node position, we derived a optimal equations by using the overlapped areas, each node's radiuses and expended angles of opposite neighboring nodes. Based on it, we devised a new node positioning method, called as ASRC(Adjustable Sensing Ranges Control). Unlike existing condition based model, our proposed method was derived from mathematical formula, and we confirmed its validity of sensing energy consumption through simulations.

  • The Air Quality Sensor(AQS), located near the fresh air inlet, serves to reduce the amount of pollution entering the vehicle cabin through the HVAC(heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) system by sending a signal to close the fresh air inlet door/ventilation flap when the vehicle enters a high pollution area. The sensor module which includes two independent sensing elements for responding to diesel and gasoline exhaust gases, and temperature sensor and humidity sensor was designed for intelligent AQS in automobile. With this sensor module, AVR microcontroller was designed with back propagation neural network to a powerful gas/vapor pattern recognition when the motor vehicles pass a pollution area. Momentum back propagation algorithm was used in this study instead of normal backpropagation to reduce the teaming time of neural network. The signal from neural network was modified to control the inlet of automobile and display the result or alarm the situation in this study. One chip microcontroller, ATmega 128L(ATmega Ltd., USA) was used for the control and display. And our developed system can intelligently reduce the malfunction of AQS from the dampness of air or dense fog with the backpropagation neural network and the input sensor module with four sensing elements such as reducing gas sensing element, oxidizing gas sensing element, temperature sensing element and humidity sensing element.

  • Cognitive radio (CR) has been recently proposed to dynamically access unused-spectrum. Since the spectrum availability for opportunistic access is determined by spectrum sensing, sensing control is identified as one of the most crucial issues of cognitive radio networks. Out-of-band sensing to find an available channels to sense. Sensing is also required in case of spectrum hand-off. Sensing process needs to be done very fast in order to enhance the quality of service (QoS) of the CR nodes, and transmission not to be cut for longer time. During the sensing, the PU(primary user) detection probability condition should be satisfied. We adopt a channel prediction method to find target channels. Proposed prediction method combines chaotic global method and chaotic local method for channel idle probability prediction. Global method focus on channel history information length and order number of prediction model. Local method focus on local prediction trend. Through making simulation, Proposed method can find an available channel with very high probability, total sensing time is minimized, detection probability of PU's are satisfied.

  • This paper presents the lateral control of an autonomous vehicle by using a look-ahead sensing system. In look-ahead sensing by an absolute positioning system, a reference lane, constructed by straight lanes or circular lanes, was switched by a segment switching algorithm. To cope with sensor noise and modeling uncertainty, a robust LMI-based $H_{\infty}$ lateral controller was designed by the feedback of lateral offset and yaw angle error at the vehicle look-ahead. In order to verify the safety and the performance of lateral control, a scaled-down vehicle was developed and the location of the vehicle was detected by using an ultrasonic local positioning system. In the mechatronic scaled-down vehicle, the lateral model and parameters are verified and estimated by a J-turn test. For the lane change and reference lane tracking, the lateral controllers are used experimentally. The experimental results show that the $H_{\infty}$ controller is robust and has better performance compared with look-down sensing.
