  • Offshore remote-sensing wind extraction using SAR satellite image is an emerging and promising technology for offshore wind resource assessment. We compared our numerical weather prediction and offshore wind extraction from ENVISAT images around Korea offshore areas. A few comparison sets showed good agreement but more comparisons are required to draw application guideline on a statistical basis.

  • Thick film mechanical sensors can be categorized into four main areas piezoresistive, piezoelectric, piezocapastive and mechanic tube. In this areas, the thick film strain gage is the earliest example of a primary sensing element based on the substrates. The latest thick film sensor is used various pastes that have been specifically developed for pressure sensor application. The screen printing technique has been used to fabricate the pressure sensors on alumina substrate($Al_2O_3$). Thick film capacitive of strain sensing characteristics are reported and dielectric paste based on (Ti+Ba) materials. The electric property of dielectric paste has been studied and exhibit good properly with good gage factor comparable to piezoresistive strain gage. New piezocapacitive strain sensor was designed and tested. The output of capacitive value was good characteristics.

  • This study is to present a standardized scheme for providing agriculture-related information at various spatial resolutions of satellite images including LANDSAT +ETM, KOMPSAT-1 EOC, ASTER VNIR and IKONOS panchromatic (Pan) and multi-spectral (M/S) images. The satellite images were interpreted especially for identifying agricultural areas, crop types, agricultural facilities and structures. The results were compared with the land cover/land use classification system suggested by Ministry of Construction & Transportation based on NGIS (National Geographic Information System) and Ministry of Environment based on satellite remote sensing data. The results by IKONOS image will be provided to KOMPSAT-2 project for agricultural application.

  • The 3D DWT(The Three Dimensional Discrete Wavelet Transform) scheme is potentially regarded as useful one on analyzing both spatial and spectral information. Nevertheless, few researchers have attempted to process or classified remotely sensed images using the 3D DWT. This study aims to apply the 3D DWT to the land cover classification of optical and SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) images. Then, their results are evaluated quantitatively and compared with the results of traditional classification technique. As the experimental results, the 3D DWT shows superior classification results to conventional techniques, especially dealing with the high-resolution imagery and SAR imagery. It is thought that the 3D DWT scheme can be extended to multi-temporal or multi-sensor image classification.

  • Recently, KARI developed "KOMPSAT-2 Terminal for Polar Station" which is high performance system newly required for stimulating KOMPSAT-2 application. The KOMPSAT-2 Terminal for Polar Station consists of one receiving system and two processing systems. The receiving system has been installed at Svalbard Satellite Station located at Norwegian Svalbard island. and the two receiving systems have been installed at Kongsberg Satellite Service AS located at Tromso Norway and Spot Image SA located at Toulouse France respectively. In this paper overall items of KOMPSAT-2 Terminal for Polar Station, which includes requirements, designs and operation concepts, are to be addressed with the verification result on its performance.

  • The purpose of the study is to establish models of land use prediction system for development and management of land resources using remotely sensed data as well as ancillary data in the context of multi-disciplinary approach in the application to CheJoo Island. The model adopts multi-date processing techniques and is a spatial/temporal land-use projection strategy emerged as a synthesis of the probability transition model and the discriminant-annlysis model. A discriminant model is applied to all pixels in CheJoo landscape plane to predict the most likely change in land use. The probability transition model provides the number of these pixels that will convert to different land use in a gives future time increment. The synthetic model predicts the future change in land use and its volume of pixels in the landscape plane.

  • This study is to apply QuickBird satellite image for the simulation of storm runoff in a small rural watershed. For a $1.05km^2$ watershed located in Goesan-Gun of Chungbuk Province, the land use from the QuickBird image was produced by on-screening digitising after ortho-rectifying using 2 m DEM. For 3 cases of land use, soil and elevation scale (1:5,000, 1:25,000 and 1:50,000), SCS-CN and the watershed physical parameters were prepared for the storm runoff model, HEC-HMS (Hydrologic Modelling System). The model was evaluated for each case and compared the simulated results with couple of selected storm events.

  • This paper presents a methodology to account for the partial or gradual changes of environmental phenomena in categorical map information for the fusion/integration of multiple spatial data. The fuzzy set based spatial data fusion scheme is applied in order to account for the fuzziness of boundaries in categorical information showing the partial or gradual environmental impacts. The fuzziness or uncertainty of boundary is represented as two kinds of fuzzy membership functions based on fuzzy object concept and the effects of them are quantitatively evaluated with the help of a cross validation procedure. A case study for landslide hazard assessment demonstrates the better performance of this scheme as compared to traditional crisp boundary representation.

  • The surface velocities were estimated by the Maximum Cross Correlation(MCC) method and an inverse method from AVHRR/SST. In the results of MCC, discontinuous flow fields were estimated in the case that cross correlation coefficient was above 0.5 but these flow pattern disappeared when cross correlation coefficient was above 0.9. This estimation was conspicuous near SST patterns of eddies. In the results of inverse method, flow field was continuous and eddy motion was estimated definitely but the velocity was overstimated in compared with MCC result over the area of small temperature gradient. This result may be due to temperature error included in SST calculated and spatial variation of heat flux.

  • The study was emphasized on application of the digital image processing techniques for lineament analysis. The major lineament of the study area belongs to Choogaryong faults which many geologists have studied since 1903. Also the lineament is so significant in geological views, because the lineament runs through Seoul area. The several image processing methods such as gradient, Laplacian and spatial filter have been applied, and the spatial filtering is most suitable method for lineament analysis among them. The lineaments distribute predominently in the N20.deg.-30.deg.E trend and N80.deg.-90.deg.W trend which have the conjugated relationship each other, and it coincides with the Gyeongsang conjugate system. The circular structure of study area was developed by cooling circular joint.
