  • This study identified the level of awareness of dangerous accidents by empirically analyzing the possibility of hazardous accidents at work and the possibility of dangerous accidents due to COVID-19 targeting the participating seniors who are active in the Senior Club, an organization dedicated to job placement for the elderly. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for preparing measures to improve risk accidents that may occur in organizations in charge of job placement for the elderly and to suggest countermeasures to prevent dangerous accidents. For this purpose, data were collected from the elderly participating in 16 senior clubs in Busan, and 425 of the collected 430 were ultimately used. As a result of this study, first, it was found that the elderly who participated in a job-dedicated institution for the elderly generally perceived the possibility of occupational risk accidents and risk factors due to COVID-19 to be low. Second, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference in the probability of occurrence of hazardous accidents at work according to demographic characteristics during the participation period, and the probability of occurrence of dangerous accidents with COVID-19 was found to have statistically significant differences in the classification and age of the participating elderly. Based on the results of this study, the project manager suggested creating a safety accident management record sheet, preparing a risk management manual, and establishing a risk management system reflecting the individual characteristics of the participants.

  • This study is a descriptive exploratory research aimed at identifying factors influencing the health-related quality of life(HRQOL) in middle-aged and senior-aged patients with complex chronic diseases. The study participants were extracted from the Korean Medical Panel annual data. A total of 2,408 patients, with two or more chronic diseases were included. The data were analyzed using STATA 15.0 software through descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis. The research findings indicate that in middle-aged patients, educational level, household income, economic activity, stress, experience of despair, and basic needs satisfaction positively influence health-related quality of life. On the other hand, types of medical insurance, depressive feelings, and suicidal ideation exert a negative impact. In the case of senior-aged patients, positive influences on health-related quality of life were observed for educational level, household income, economic activity, alcohol consumption, stress, experience of despair, and basic needs satisfaction. Conversely, negative influences were noted for marital status, types of medical insurance, depressive feelings, and suicidal ideation. Therefore, in order to enhance the HRQOL for middle-aged and senior-aged patients with complex chronic diseases, tailored policies considering individual and age-specific characteristics should be formulated.

  • This paper deals with the asymptotic properties for statistical inferences of the parameters in nonlinear regression models. As an optimal criterion for robust estimators of the regression parameters, the regression quantile method is proposed. This paper defines the regression quintile estimators in the nonlinear models and provides simple and practical sufficient conditions for the asymptotic normality of the proposed estimators when the parameter space is compact. The efficiency of the proposed estimator is especially well compared with least squares estimator, least absolute deviation estimator under asymmetric error distribution.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to describe the risk of dysphagia among older adults in senior centers and to find the relationships between the risk of dysphagia and dysphagia-specific quality of life. Methods: The participants were 260 community-dwelling older adults, aged 65 years in two senior centers. Data were collected by self-report questionnaires or face to face interviews. The instruments were the modified dysphagia risk assessment scale for elderly and dysphagia-specific quality of life questionnaire. The data were analyzed using t-test, $x^2$-test, logistic regression, and pearson's correlation. Results: 162 older adults (62.3%) were classified as having the risk of dysphagia. Severe dry mouth (OR=15.677, CI=2.986~82.297), neurologic disease (OR=10.125, CI=1.092~93.899), gastritis (OR=5.731, CI=1.482~22.173), denture discomfort (OR=2.969, CI=1.016~8.677), teeth discomfort (OR=2.61, CI=1.311~5.196) were the significant factors predicting the risk of dysphagia. There is a significant correlation between the risk of dysphagia and dysphagia-specific quality of life. Conclusion: Dysphagia could be a major health problem among community dwelling older adults. It can affect the dysphagia-specific quality of life. Older adults having severe dry mouth, neurologic disease, or gastritis should receive dysphagia risk assessment and proper management on a regular basis. An effective nursing intervention needs to be developed for the older adults with risk factors of dysphagia.
