Recently increasing application of flash memory in mobile and ubiquitous related devices is due to its non-volatility, fast response time, shock resistance and low power consumption. Following this trend, SSD(Solid State Disk) using multiple flash chips, instead of hard-drive based storage system, started to widely used for its advantageous features. However, flash memory based storage subsystem should resolve the performance bottleneck for writing in perspective of speed and lifetime according to its disadvantageous physical property. In order to provide tangible performance, solutions are studied in aspect of reclaiming of invalid regions by decreasing the number of erasures and distributing the erasures uniformly over the whole memory space as much as possible. In this paper, we study flash memory recycling algorithms with multiple management units and demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides feasible performance. The proposed method utilizes the partitions of the memory space by utilizing threshold values and reconfigures the management units if necessary. The performance of the proposed policies is evaluated through a number of simulation based experiments.
In this paper, we propose a method to design and implement a smart pipeline information management system that can provide visualization information linked to GIS and roadmap based on the construction of precise pipeline buried information. The smart pipeline information management system consists of a positioning device for high-precision pipeline location measurement and surround view image data recording, a database for data storage and management, and a mobile app for remote monitoring and management. It connects surrounding image data and location data with GIS and roadmap. Convenience and accessibility of management can be improved.
This paper is to propose a hybrid memory adaptor using next-generation nonvolatile memory devices such as phase-change memory to improve the performance limitations of OpenStack-based object storage systems. The proposed system aims to improve the performance of the account and container servers for object metadata management. For this, the proposed system consists of locality-based dynamic page buffer, write buffer, and nonvolatile memory modules. Experimental results show that the proposed system improves the hit rate by 5.5% compared to the conventional system.
Recent enhancement in the still image acquisition devices has been widely perpetrated into the daily life of the common people. Due to this trend, the voluminous still images, that are produced and shared in the personal or the massive storage, need to controlled with effective and efficient management. The human-devised or system-generated still image identifiers used for the identification of the images are at risk in the situation of unexpected changing or eliminating of the identifiers. In this paper, we propose a parallel processing based method for still image identifier generation by utilizing the still image internal features.
Electronics has different meanings to different people and in different countries. Hence, let me difine the term in the sense that it is used here. Electronics in the science and the technology of the passage of charged particles in a gas, in a vacumn, or in a semiconductor. The beginning of electronics came in 1895 when H. A. Lorentz postulated the existence of discrete charges called electrons. Two years later J.J. Thompson found these electrons experimentally. In the same year (1897) Braun built what was probaly the first electron tube, essentially a primitive cathode-ray tube. It was not until the start of the 20th century that electronics began to take technological shape. In 1904 Fleming invented the diode which he called a valve. This era begins with the invention of the transistor about 30 years ago. The history of this invention is interesting. M.J. Kelly, director of research(and later president of Bell Laboratories), had the foresight to realize that the telephone system needed electronic switching and better amplifiers. Vacuum tubes were not very reliable, principally because they generated a great deal of heat even when they were not being used, and, particularly, because filaments burned out and the tubes had to be replaced. In 1945 a solid-state physics group wa formed. The foregoing completes the history of electronics and electronic industries up to 1978. There is already a start toward a merging of the computer and the communication industries which might be called information manipulation. This includes storage of information, sorting, computation, information retrieval, and transmission of data. This combination of the computer and the communication fields will penetrate many disciplines. Applications will be made in the fields of law, medicine, biological sciences, engineering, library services publishing banking, reservation systems, management control, education, and defense.
