  • This study aims at investigating the adaptation process of the mothers of autistic children. A qualitative research method was adopted for this study: in-depth interviews were conducted using semi-structured questionnaires, then the transcribed interviews were analyzed to sort out patterns of adaptation and social support. Major results of the study are as follows: First the interviewees had common processes and patterns in their experiences and went through similar emotional and psychological processes. More specifically, most of the interviewees went through the stages of denial and isolation, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. However, the interviewees did not experience the stages in the exact sequence, as the stages sometimes would repeat, or would overlap one with another, Second, the data showed that many of the mothers of autistic children could not obtain the social support that they acutely needed Also, it was found that when adequate social support was provided, it relieved the stress of the interviewees, improved their adaptation, reduced the negative effects of crises or changes in the family, and further strengthened the solidarity of the family.

  • This study has been geared to document primary information on common complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) used to treat and/or manage common dermatological disorders in Mauritius, a tropical multicultural island in the Indian Ocean. Data from 355 key informants was collected via a semi-structured questionnaire. Pearson correlation and Chi-squared test were performed to delineate any association. Quantitative indexes including the Importance Value (IV) and fidelity value were calculated. Results tend to indicate that cultural reasons were behind the use of CAM among Mauritians and traditional knowledge was mainly acquired either from parents/relatives or from self-experience. Among the medicinal plants mentioned, Aziadiracta indica (IV = 0.78) and Paederia tomentosa (IV = 0.70) were found to be most used plants. Calendula officinalis (IV = 0.15), Centella asiatica (IV = 0.22) and Agauria salicifolia (IV = 0.11) were also recorded to be used for common dermatological disorders though greatly under-utilised. Animal products were mentioned by 38.0% respondents and cow ghee was found to be commonly used in the management of measles (IV = 0.88). Spiritual healing was found to be used mainly for measles and warts. Given the plethora of novel information documented from the present survey, it can be suggested that the Mauritian population still relies to a great extent on CAM which needs to be preserved and used sustainably. Nonetheless, further investigation is required to probe the possible active constituents that could be the basis of an evidence based investigation to discover new drugs.

  • This paper describes an attempt to integrate flip teaching into a language classroom by adopting wikispaces as an online learning platform. The purpose of this study is to examine student perceptions of the effectiveness of using video lectures and wikispaces to foster active participation and collaborative learning. Flipped learning was implemented in an English writing class over one semester. Participants were 27 low intermediate level Korean university students. Data collection methods included background questionnaires at the beginning of the semester, learning experience questionnaires at the end of the semester, and semi-structured interviews with 6 focal participants. Because of the significance of video lectures in flip teaching, oCam was used for making weekly online lectures as a way of pre-class activities. Every week, online lectures were posted on the school LMS system (moodle). Every week, participants met in a computer room to perform in-class activities. Both in-class activities and post-class activities were managed by wikispaces. The results indicate that the flipped classroom facilitated student learning in the writing class. More than 53% of the respondents felt that it was useful to develop writing skills in a flipped classroom. Particularly, students felt that the video lectures prior to the class helped them improve their grammar skills. However, with respect to their satisfaction with collaborative works, about 44% of the participants responded positively. Similarly, 44% of the participants felt that in-class group work helped them interact with the other group members. Considering these results, this paper concludes with pedagogical suggestions and implications for further research.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop science research ethics guidelines for elementary school teachers. To develop the guidelines, authors have conducted the following procedures: Development of guidelines through literature reviews; and an application of the developed guidelines to classroom sites. Authors established sections and formats of guidelines for science research ethics through literature reviews and developed contents of major sections and subsections and their explanations and descriptions. After that, authors applied the developed guidelines at elementary science classes and collected data through semi-structured interviews with science class teachers and checklists to reflect on and complement the contents of the guidelines. To secure the validity of guidelines, authors requested a validity assessment to four science education experts and one ethics education specialist. As a result, the CVI for the guidelines was found to be 0.9. Finally, authors developed the final guidelines by adding "Case Examples of Application" by adopting requests of elementary school teachers who used the provisional guidelines.

The basic need for getting into internet game was [satisfaction from virtual reality was identified]. While internet games was eliminated stress, [Expectations for the emotional needs] and [Spend time in the cyberspace] were the catalyst that makes them repeatedly getting into Internet the game. Based on the result, I suggest that Internet gaming should be recognized as a tool to relieve stress for college students, But it is not satisfied with the reality in virtual space. Therefore, the strategy must be to recognize reality accompanying. And Using a lot of time in cyberspace make them cause of internet game addiction. Therefore, it requires a systematic strategy for the Internet using time limits. Also the emotional needs met were motivated to repeat an Internet game. A perception based study was conducted to assess the cultural importance of tree species suitable for practicing agroforestry in randomly selected agroforestry-dominated villages in Alaknanda valley of Western Himalayas during 2015-16. Semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect primary data on the provisioning services of major agroforestry tree species in randomly surveyed 87 households. Based on cultural importance (CI) index value, the most suitable agroforestry tree species was Morus alba (3.32) followed by Celtis australis (3.22), Mangifera indica (3.01), Grewia optiva (2.79), Toona ciliata (2.22), Bauhinia variegata (2.08), Leucaena leucocephala (1.76) and Emblica officinalis (1.74). The preference of use has also been governed based on their indigenous knowledge. This study will also facilitate in evaluating the importance of provisioning services of agroforestry tree species in improving livelihood as well as facilitates smallholder's resilience to climate change in Western Himalayas.
