  • Ontology is important role in semantic web to construct and query semantic data. Because of dynamic characteristic of ontology, P2P environment is considered for ontology processing in web environment. For efficient processing of ontology in P2P environment, clustering of peers should be considered. When new peer is added to the network, cluster allocation problem of the new peer is important for system efficiency. For clustering of peers with similar chateristics, similarlity measure method of ontology in added peer with ontologies in other clusters is needed. In this paper, we propose similarity measure techniques of ontologies for clustering of peers. Similarity measure method in this paper considered ontology's strucural characteristics like schema, class, property. Results of experiments show that ontologies of similar topics, class, property can be allocated to the same cluster.

  • In this paper, we propose a keyword query processing technique based on semantic relationships for OWL data. The proposed keyword query processing technique can improve user's search satisfaction by performing two types of associative search. The first associative search uses information inferred by the relationships between classes or properties during keyword query processing. And it supports to search all information resources that are either directly or indirectly related with query keywords by semantic relationships between information resources. The second associative search returns not only information resources related with query keywords but also values of properties of them. We design a storage schema and index structures to support the proposed technique. And we propose evaluation functions to rank retrieved information resources according to three criteria. Finally, we evaluate the validity and accuracy of the proposed technique through experiments. The proposed technique can be utilized in a variety of fields, such as paper retrieval and multimedia retrieval.

  • The Semantic Web has increased the interest in ontologies recently Ontology is an essential component of the semantic web and continues to change and evolve. We consider versions management schemes in ontology. We study a set of changes based on domain changes, changes in conceptualization, metadata changes, and temporal dimension. Our change specification is represented by a set of changes. A set of changes consists of instance data change, structural change, and identifier change. In order to support a query in ontology versions, we consider temporal dimension includes valid time. Ontology versioning brings about massive amount of versions to be stored and maintained. We present the ontology versions management schemes that are 1) storing all the change sets, 2) storing the aggregation of change sets periodically, and 3) storing the aggregation of change sets using an adaptive criterion. We conduct a set of experiments to compare the performance of each versions management schemes. We present the experimental results for evaluating the performance of the three version management schemes from scheme 1 to scheme 3. Scheme 1 has the least storage usage. The average response time in Scheme 1 is extremely large, those of Scheme 3 is smaller than Scheme 2. Scheme 3 shows a good performance relatively.

  • Semantic Web is what supports a search, data integration, and automated web service by developing technology of giving help so that a computer can understand information a little more on the web. As amount of information gets growing and diverse, there is a problem of offering by efficiently extracting and processing only information proper for users' demand. Semantic Web isn't what is distinguished completely from the existing web. It gives a meaning, which was well defined, to information of being inserted on web by expanding the current web. Through this, a computer and a person come to perform work cooperatively. To implement Semantic Web, the limit of HTML needs to be overcome. The existing access authorization has not taken information and semantics into account due to the limitations of HTML. It is difficult to expand or integrate many relevant documents by using HTML. Program or software agent, not a person, cannot extract a meaning of document automatically. This study suggests a method of Access Authorization Policy Management that is in the Semantic Web configuration. Accordingly, the policy, which was designed in this study, improved the authorization process more than the existing method.

  • Semantic service can be defined as the service providing search API or reasoning API based on ontology and Web Services. It performs a pre-defined task by exploiting URI, classes, and properties. This study introduces a semantic service composition method based on a semantic broker referring ontology and management information of semantic services stored in a semantic service manager with requirements of the user. The requirements consist of input instances, an output class, a visualization type, semantic service names, and property names. This composition method provides dynamically generated semantic service pipelines including composit semantic services. The user can execute the pipelines provided by the semantic broker to find a meaningful semantic pipeline. After all, this study contributes to develop a system supporting human service planners who want to find composit semantic services among distributed semantic services.

  • Continual attempt to accumulate and apply information eventually gives birth to the concept of the 'Semantic Web'. Thus, the 'Semantic Web' can be defined as a product of mankind's desire to standardize information. A term of knowledge is used as information or data in computer science. These are regarded and are divided sometimes each other in terminologies that have similar meaning. If it is divided, knowledge is different from information. However, some kind of information in Knowledge Representation is called knowledge often if it can be expressed in computing system. Therefore, knowledge representation can talk as information representation. The purpose of the study is systematizing knowledge through knowledge representation that uses Delphi technique and ontology is designed by utilizing assistance editor called protege-2000 to construct semantic web environment's ontology. Level of interest regarding the construction and evaluation of search systems based on ontology is set to increase. If defined well, semantic can reflect human's thinking to knowledge information on web. Furthermore systematizes knowledge, search of information and comprehension about Jeju tour using present computer may be done intelligence.

  • By the publications of RDF and OWL, the Semantic Web is confirmed as a technology through which information in the Internet can be processed by machines. The focus of the Semantic Web study after then has moved to how to provide more useful information to users for their decision making beyond simple use of the structured data in ontologies. SWRL that makes logical inference possible by rules, and SWCL that formulates constraints under the Semantic Web environment are some of many efforts toward the achievement of that goal. Constraint represents a connection or a relationship between individual data in ontology. Based on SWCL, this paper tries to extend the language by adding one more type of constraint, implication constaint, in its repertoire. When users use binary variables to represent logical relationships in mathematical models, it requires and knowledge on the solver to solve the models. The use of implication constraint ease this difficulty. Its need, definition and relevant technical description is presented by the use of the optimal common attribute selection problem in product design.

  • The Semantic Web Services is a next-generation Web technology that supports Web services, based on the semantic Web technologies. Until now, the researches on semantic Web services may be foiled on the semantic Web document management and the inference engine to efficiently process the semantic Queries. However, in order to realize the principle semantic Web environment it is necessary to provide a semantic query interface though which users and/or agents can efficiently request semantic information. In this regard, we propose the Semantic Query Adapter(SQA) to provide a high query transparency with users, especially when querying about a complex semantic information. We first design the procedural user query interface based on a graphic view, by analyzing DAML-S Profile documents. And then, we builds a module which a user input query transforms its corresponding RDQL. We also propose the multiple semantic query generating procedure as a new method to solve the disjunctive query problem of the RDQL primitive.

  • Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the potential of sematic network analysis for design research. Background: As HCD (Human-Centered Design) was emphasized, lots of design research methodologies were developed and used in order to find user needs. However, it is still difficult to discover users' latent needs. This study suggests the semantic network analysis as a complementary means for design research, and proved its potential through the practical application, which compares multi-screen purchase and usage behaviors between America and China. Method: We conducted an in-depth interview with 32 consumers from USA and China, and analyzed interview texts through semantic network analysis. Cross cultural differences in purchase and usage behaviors were investigated, based on measuring centrality and community modularity of devices, functions, key buying factors and brands. Results: Americans use more services and functions in the multi-screen environment, compared to Chinese. As a device substitutes other devices, traditional boundaries of the devices are disappearing in the USA. Americans consider function to recall Apple, but Chinese consider function, design and brand to recall Apple, Sony and Samsung as an important brand at the time of their purchase. Conclusion: This study shows the potential of semantic network analysis for design research through the practical application. Semantic network analysis presents how the concepts regarding a theme are structured in the cognitive map of users with visual images and quantitative data. Therefore, it can complement the qualitative analysis of the existing design research. Application: As the design environment becomes more and more complicated like multi-screen environment, semantic network analysis, which is able to provide design insights in the intuitive and holistic perspective, will be acknowledged as an effective tool for further design research.
