  • In this paper we propose a new method of evaluating customers' service quality using triangle fuzzy numbers and semantic differential scale. These two parameters are useful for quantifying the customers' linguistic variables and subjective judgements. We define the Service Quality(SQ) as the ratio of the expected and perceived service and address the Agreement Rate(AR) calculated from the hamming distance in order to define the Service Rate(SR) as the geometric mean of the SQ and AR. Using the SR in the analysis of service attributes provides more appropriate to measure the customers' service quality and to establish a creative service policy for competitive service quality improvement.

  • In this paper, I explore the semantic interpretation of the English present perfect by arguing that the perfect is analogous to modals in its interpretation. The perfect produces several different readings, i.e., the resultative and the current relevant reading, to mention a few. Despite this, the meaning of the perfect remains invariable in sentences where it occurs. Instead, the semantic variability of the perfect is due to the nature of the conversational background. This indicates that just as modals are context-dependent, so is the perfect, which inspires a modal-based approach to the semantics of the perfect. By incorporating such an approach into its semantic analysis, we can present a unified account of the different meanings of the perfect.

  • This paper claims that beneficiary adjuncts are best analyzed as involving external predication in a version of grammatical framework called Head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar. This paper also claims that verbal catefories need to include the attribute INDEX among their semantic components in order to account for the external predication proposed in this paper. This paper distinguishes between recipient and beneficiary reles and assumes that the former is a semantic argument of a verb-type relation and that the latter is an adjunct which makes a semantic contribution as a modifier. This approach achives a unified analysis of modification phenomena of nominal and verbal categories and it can also accomodate Parson's(1990) idea that a verbal category denotes a set of events, not just an event.

  • People frequently exchange their message or information. In recent years, as the communication means are getting various, many new words are made and changing. Remarkably, a noun 'Wanjeon' in Korean is using as an adverb in real life. Therefore, first, this paper attempted to review the adverbialization of 'Wanjeon' on the analysis of written and spoken corpus in Korean and Japanese. Second, it considered the morphological and syntactical difference between 'Wanjeon' and 'Wanjeonhi' in Korean with the contrast with Japanese 'Kanzen' and 'Kanzenni'. Third, it reviewed what semantic difference are made when 'Wanjeon' and 'Wanjeonhi' are substituted also with the contrast with Japanese.

  • This paper empirically examines factors that potentially influence the success of a Web-based semantic search engine. A research model has been proposed that shows the impact of quality-related factors upon the effectiveness of a semantic search engine, based on DeLone and McLean's(2003) information systems success model. An empirical study has been conducted to test hypotheses formulated around the research model, and statistical methods were applied to analyze gathered data and draw conclusions. Implications for academics and practitioners are offered based on the findings of the study. The proposed model includes three quality dimensions of a Web-based semantic search engine-namely, information quality, system quality and service quality. These three dimensions each have measures designed to collectively assess the respective dimension. The model is intended to examine the relationship between measures of these quality dimensions and measures of two dependent constructs, including individuals' net benefit and user satisfaction. Individuals' net benefit was measured by the extent to which the user's information needs were adequately met, whereas user satisfaction was measured by a combination of the perceived satisfaction with search results and the perceived satisfaction with the overall system. A total of 23 hypotheses have been formulated around the model, and a questionnaire survey has been conducted using a functional semantic search website created by KT and Hakia, so as to collect data to validate the model. Copies of a questionnaire form were handed out in person to 160 research associates and employees working in the area of designing and developing semantic search engines. Those who received the form, 148 respondents returned valid responses. The survey form asked respondents to use the given website to answer questions concerning the system. The results of the empirical study have indicated that, of the three quality dimensions, information quality was found to have the strongest association with the effectiveness of a Web-based semantic search engine. This finding is consistent with the observation in the literature that the aspects of the information quality should serve as a basis for evaluating the search outcomes from a semantic search engine. Measures under the information quality dimension that have a positive effect on informational gratification and user satisfaction were found to be recall and currency. Under the system quality dimension, response time and interactivity, were positively related to informational gratification. On the other hand, only one measure under the service quality dimension, reliability was found to have a positive relationship with user satisfaction. The results were based on the seven hypotheses that have been accepted. One may wonder why 15 out of the 23 hypotheses have been rejected and question the theoretical soundness of the model. However, the correlations between independent variables and dependent variables came out to be fairly high. This suggests that the structural equation model yielded results inconsistent with those of coefficient analysis, because the structural equation model intends to examine the relationship among independent variables as well as the relationship between independent variables and dependent variables. The findings offer some useful implications for owners of a semantic search engine, as far as the design and maintenance of the website is concerned. First, the system should be designed to respond to the user's query as fast as possible. Also it should be designed to support the search process by recommending, revising, and choosing a search query, so as to maximize users' interactions with the system. Second, the system should present search results with maximum recall and currency to effectively meet the users' expectations. Third, it should be capable of providing online services in a reliable and trustworthy manner. Finally, effective increase in user satisfaction requires the improvement of quality factors associated with a semantic search engine, which would in turn help increase the informational gratification for users. The proposed model can serve as a useful framework for measuring the success of a Web-based semantic search engine. Applying the search engine success framework to the measurement of search engine effectiveness has the potential to provide an outline of what areas of a semantic search engine needs improvement, in order to better meet information needs of users. Further research will be needed to make this idea a reality.

  • This study aims to identify and compare contents and keywords used in articles related to blockchain applications to various industries. The text mining and Semantic Network Analysis, as methods of keyword network analysis, were used to analyze articles including terms of 'finance' 'energy' and 'logistics', which media and government frequently mentioned as areas that can apply blockchain technologies. For this study, data were collected from 43,093 articles from January, 2017 through July, 2018. Data crawling was carried out by using Python BeautifulSoup and data cleaning was performed in order to eliminate mutual redundancies of the three terms. After that, text mining and semantic network analysis were performed using Textom and UCInet for network analysis between keywords. The results showed that all the three terms were similar in terms of 'technology', but there were differences in the contents of 'government policy' or 'industry' issues. In addition, there were differences in frequencies and centralities of these terms.

  • This study analyzes the online issues of design innovation by a fashion creative director. The study selected fashion house Gucci as the main subject and analyzed social media posts. As for study methods, a social matrix program Textom 2.0 collected 13,014 nouns and adjectives using 'Gucci Collection' as a search keyword from Naver Blogs from March to August 2014 and from March to August 2016. Design related issues were derived through semantic network analysis using Ucinet6 and the NetDraw program. The results of the keyword frequency analysis showed that social media user interest for the Gucci collection increased based on the rapid increase in the number of posts from 1,064 to 2,126 after changing the fashion creative director. The results of visualization of semantic network analysis and content analysis also showed that the main issues related to the Gucci collection design changed after the replacement of the fashion creative director. The study found that issues formed around the product information worn by celebrities for promotion purposes during the 2014 period; however, during the 2016 period, issues were formed around 'vintage' and 'retro' runway concepts with design styles related to Alessandro Michele, the new creative director.

  • In this paper, we examined the research trends and characteristics related to the metaverse in global journals published between 2000 and 2022 from the Web of Science database. The analysis included descriptive statistics, multidimensional scaling, keyword network analysis, and visualization. In addition, semantic network models were constructed, and centrality (betweenness and degree) analysis was performed using R and KH coder in two separate categories based on the trends and aspects of the publication: analysis period 1 (Jan 2000 to Dec 2020) and period 2 (Jan 2021 to Jun 2022). The results showed that the recent global research trends related to the metaverse could be quantitatively characterized using the semantic network analysis. Also, the results could be applied to suggest future research topics in the field of metaverse based on quantitative and empirical data.

  • This paper suggests a method to refine a massive collective intelligence data, and visualize with multilevel sentiment network, in order to understand information in an intuitive and semantic way. For this study, we first calculated a frequency of sentiment words from each movie review. Second, we designed a Heatmap visualization to effectively discover the main emotions on each online movie review. Third, we formed a Sentiment-Movie Network combining the MDS Map and Social Network in order to fix the movie network topology, while creating a network graph to enable the clustering of similar nodes. Finally, we evaluated our progress to verify if it is actually helpful to improve user cognition for multilevel analysis experience compared to the existing network system, thus concluded that our method provides improved user experience in terms of cognition, being appropriate as an alternative method for semantic understanding.

  • As the standard for the value of modern people's life increases, hotels make efforts for the users' qualitative and mental satisfaction. As an approach to hotel space design differentiated for new experiences for travelers, a design that reflects the placeness is needed so that people can experience the local culture and historical meaning of the place. Thus, this study divides the components of placeness into physical factors, socio-cultural factors, and semantic factors. As for methods for the design expression of placeness formation, physical factors are classified as the connection to surrounding environments, center, passage, and area. Socio-cultural factors are classified as cultural experiences in the place. Semantic factors are classified as symbolism and historicity. For a case analysis in this study, overseas four-star hotels or higher, where placeness stood out are analyzed, based on the above-extracted components of placeness. As a result of the analysis, the hotels in the cases showed an aspect of expression that emphasized semantic factors despite there were differences in the detailed expression method, depending on the designers. The expression of the place that reflected locality and temporality showed the connection of time, connecting the past with the present. In the future, only the design expression based on the historical and symbolic meanings of the place will be the experience that remains in the users' memories, very precisely.
