  • Two-phase self-organizing neuro-modeling (SONM). the global SONM and local SONM, is designed for tracking non-stationary manufacturing processes. Radial basis function (RBF) neural network is employed, and self-tuning estimator is also developed for the determination of RBF network parameters on-line. A pattern recognition approach is presented for identifying a correct RBF neural network, which is used for identifying current manufacturing processes. Experimental results showed that the proposed approach is suitable for tracking non-stationary processes.

  • By using the neural networks(NN) as system identifier, the on-line self tuning method for fuzzy controller(FC) is proposed. In theis method, the learning of NN is carried out during control operation of FC and the cinsequent parameters of FC is tuned on-line automatically by means of system output errors backpropagated through NN. The Sugeno fuzzy model with constants as consequent parameters is selected for simplifying computation. In procedures of parameter tuning, the gradient descent method is used and the gradient vectors for adjusting the weight of NN are transferred as controller output errors. To evaluate the performance, the proposed method is applied to the inverted pendulum system.

  • This paper represents that auto tunings of membership functions and weights in the fuzzy neural networks are effectively performed by immune algorithm. A number of hybrid methods in fuzzy-neural networks are considered in the context of tuning of learning method, a general view is provided that they are the special cases of either the membership functions or the gain modification in the neural networks by genetic algorithms. On the other hand, since the immune network system possesses a self organizing and distributed memory, it is thus adaptive to its external environment and allows a PDP (parallel distributed processing) network to complete patterns against the environmental situation. Also, it can provide optimal solution. Simulation results reveal that immune algorithms are effective approaches to search for optimal or near optimal fuzzy rules and weights.

  • Since the nonlinearity and uncertainties which inherently exist in vehicle system need to be considered in active suspension control law design, this paper proposes a new control strategy for active vehicle suspension systems by using a combined control scheme, i.e., respectively using a genetic algorithm (GA) based self-tuning PID controller and a fuzzy logic controller in two loops. In the control scheme, the PID controller is used to minimize vehicle body vertical acceleration, the fuzzy logic controller is to minimize pitch acceleration and meanwhile to attenuate vehicle body vertical acceleration further by tuning weighting factors. In order to improve the adaptability to the changes of plant parameters, based on the defined objectives, a genetic algorithm is introduced to tune the parameters of PID controller, the scaling factors, the gain values and the membership functions of fuzzy logic controller on-line. Taking a four degree-of-freedom nonlinear vehicle model as example, the proposed control scheme is applied and the simulations are carried out in different road disturbance input conditions. Simulation results show that the present control scheme is very effective in reducing peak values of vehicle body accelerations, especially within the most sensitive frequency range of human response, and in attenuating the excessive dynamic tire load to enhance road holding performance. The stability and adaptability are also showed even when the system is subject to severe road conditions, such as a pothole, an obstacle or a step input. Compared with conventional passive suspensions and the active vehicle suspension systems by using, e.g., linear fuzzy logic control, the combined PID and fuzzy control without parameters self-tuning, the new proposed control system with GA-based self-learning ability can improve vehicle ride comfort performance significantly and offer better system robustness.

  • Since it is well-established that even high quality data tend to contain outliers, one would expect fat? greater reliance on robust regression techniques than is actually observed. But most of all robust regression estimators suffers from the computational difficulties and the lower efficiency than the least squares under the normal error model. The weighted self-tuning estimator (WSTE) recently suggested by Lee (2004) has no more computational difficulty and it has the asymptotic normality and the high break-down point simultaneously. Although it has better properties than the other robust estimators, WSTE does not have full efficiency under the normal error model through the weighted least squares which is widely used. This paper introduces a new approach as called the reweighted WSTE (RWSTE), whose scale estimator is adaptively estimated by the self-tuning constant. A Monte Carlo study shows that new approach has better behavior than the general weighted least squares method under the normal model and the large data.

  • This paper concerned about a study on the direct pole placement PID self-tuning controller design for DC servo motor control system. The method of a direct pole placement self-tuning PID control for a DC servo motor of Robot manipulator tracks a reference velocity in spite of the parameters uncertainties in nonminimum phase system. In this scheme, the parameters of classical controller are estimated by the recursive least square (RLS)identification algorithm, the pole placement method and diophantine equation. A series of simulation in which minimum phase system and nonminimum phase system are subjected to a pattern of system parameter changes is presented to show some of the features of the proposed control algorithm. The proposed control algorithm which shown are effective for the practical application, and experiments of DC servo motor speed control for Robot manipulator by a microcomputer IBM-PC/AT are performed and the results are well suited.

  • Sliding mode controller(SMC) is a simple but powerful nonlinear controller, because it guarantees the stability and the robustness. However, it leads to the high frequency chattering of the control input. Although the phenomenon can be avoided by introducing a thin boundary layer to the sliding surface, the method results in a steady state: error proportional to the boundary layer thickness. In this paper, we proposed a new sliding mode controller with self-tuning the thickness of a boundary layer. It uses a fuzzy rule base for tuning the thickness of a boundary layer. That is, the thickness is increased to some degree to reject a discontinuous control input at the initial state and then it is decreased as the states approaches to the steady states for improving the tracking performance. In order to assure the control performance, we perf'ormed the computer simulation using an inverted pendulum system as a controlled plant.

  • This study proposes a method for improvement of PD type fuzzy controller. The method includes self tuner using gradient algorithm that is one of the optimization algorithms. The proposed controller improves simple Takagi-Sugeno type FLC (Fuzzy Logic Control) system. The simple Takagi-Sugeno type FLC system changes nonlinear characteristic to linear parameters of consequent membership function. The simple FLC system could control the system by calibrating parameter of consequent membership function that changes the system response. While the determination on parameter of the simple FLC system works well only partially, the proposed method is needed to determine parameters that work for overall response. The simple FLC system doesn't predict the response characteristics. While the simple FLC system works just like proportional part of PID, our system includes derivative part to predict the next response. The proposed controller is constructed with P part and D part FLC system that characteristic parameter on system response is changed by self tuner for effective response. Since the proposed controller doesn't include integral part, it can't eliminate steady state error. So we include a gain to eliminate the steady state error.

  • This paper presents self tuning PI controller of IPMSM drive using neural network. Self tuning PI controller is developed to minimize overshoot, rise time and settling time following sudden parameter changes such as speed, load torque and inertia. Also, this paper is proposed speed control of IPMSM using neural network and estimation of speed using artificial neural network(ANN) controller. The results on a speed controller of IPMSM are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed gain tuner. And this controller is better than the fixed gains one in terms of robustness, even under great variations of operating conditions and load disturbance.
