We developed a self-operated paper pump that can maintain a nearly constant flow rate of an aqueous solution along a paper strip channel in paper-based analytical devices (PADs). The quasi-stationary flow rate was controlled by increasing the crosssectional channel area (capillary force) using a fan-shaped absorption pad coupled with a paper strip channel. The flow rate is regulated by varying the fan angle of the circular absorbing pad. Furthermore, the flow rate can be increased by furnishing a hollow cavity at the center of a conventional paper strip channel. The rate was regulated by varying the length of the hollow paper channel in the flow rate range of 5.1-26.4 mm/min. As a preliminary work, a paper-pump-coupled PAD was fabricated, and its CV detection capability was evaluated for the redox reaction of Fe(CN)6+4/+3. The combination of a paper pump with a PAD resulted in an ideal CV curve with a higher limiting current and faster response time. These results are interpreted well by the Levich equation, which suggests that the paper pump is a very useful component in paper-based sensors.
The purpose of this study were to investigate the current problems of family in adolescents' college entrance examination and to propose the practical alternatives about effective overcoming strategies. To study these objectives two kinds of sample and questionnaire were selected and the data were obtained through 360 parent-child pairs and 802 college preparatory institute students living in Seoul Taejon and kwangju. The major findings were as follow: 1. Educational achievements were affected by adolescents' personal traits as achievement need self-regulation emotional stability and self-concept but parents ' over-aspirations were negative agent for stress coping. 2. Parent-adolescent intimate and self-regulated relationships were positive factors for achievement and educational self-concept. Also adolecsents' educational aspirations were more significantly affected by parents' emotional supports. 3. Family stress were mediated by parent-child conflict so satisfied parent-child relationships can protect serious stressors as examination problems. Especially father-related factors were importantly revealed. In conclusion adolescent family and society must develop coping methods individually and cooperatively through family life education systematic policy and educational reformation.
Cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) is a maternally inherited trait leading to loss of the ability to produce fertile pollen and is extensively used in hybrid crop breeding. Ogura-CMS was originally generated by insertion of orf138 upstream of atp8 in the radish mitochondrial genome and transferred to Brassica crops for hybrid breeding. Gene expression changes by dysfunctional mitochondria in Ogura-CMS result in pollen developmental defects, but little is known about gene expression patterns in vegetative tissue. To examine the interaction between nuclear and organellar regulation of gene expression, microarray and subsequent gene expression experiments were conducted with leaves of $F_1$ hybrid Chinese cabbage derived from self-incompatible (SI) or Ogura-CMS parents (Brassica rapa ssp. pekinensis). Out of 24,000 genes deposited on a KBGP24K microarray, 66 genes were up-regulated and 26 genes were down-regulated by over 2.5 fold in the CMS leaves. Up-regulated genes included stress-response genes and mitochondrial protein genes, while genes for ascorbic acid biosynthesis and thylakoid proteins were down-regulated. Most of the major component genes for light reactions of photosynthesis were highly expressed in leaves of both SI and CMS plants, but most of the corresponding proteins were found to be greatly reduced in leaves of CMS plants, indicating posttranscriptional regulation. Reduction in thylakoid proteins and chlorophylls led to reduction in photosynthetic efficiency and chlorosis of Ogura-CMS at low temperatures. This research provides a foundation for studying chloroplast function regulated by mitochondrial signal and for using organelle genome introgression in molecular breeding.

The purpose of this study is to categorize learning style groups and to analyze students' learning interest and self-regulated learning abilities, according to their learning style and giftedness. One hundred and twenty-three (123) science-gifted student and 296 regular students participated in this study, responding to learning style, self-regulated learning, and learning interest questionnaires. Data were analyzed, using 2-stage cluster analysis, $x^2$ test, two way-MANOVA test, and $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test. The results are as follows: First, by 2-stage cluster analysis, four groups were categorized: 'high-score thinking style,' 'external-liberal,' 'executive-conservative,' and 'low-score thinking style.' In the gifted group, high-score thinking style (51.2%) was the most popular, then executive-conservative (30.2%), external-liberal (17.1%), and low-score thinking style (1.6%); in the regular student group, the executive-conservative group was the biggest, then high-score thinking style (20.6%), external-liberal (11.6%), and then the low-score thinking style (8.7%). Second, in terms of learning interest, the analysis by thinking style showed that the high-score thinking style group had higher learning interest compared to the executive-conservative and the low-thinking style group. The high-thinking style group's thoughtful interest also scored the highest compared with the others. The gifted students' thoughtful interest and investigative interest also were higher than regular students '. Third, in terms of the self-regulated learning, the analysis by thinking style showed that the high-score thinking style group showed higher scores on all sub-variances than other groups, especially having highest control-belief scores. Also, gifted students had higher scores on control-belief and searching information. Based on these results, the ways for effective education and support were discussed.

This study analyzed the effects of social support on entrepreneurial opportunity competence for Baby boomer (born in 1955-1963), focusing on mediating effect of entrepreneurial self-efficacy. The governmental start-up policy and entrepreneurship education are mostly conducted for the college students and young generation mainly through such programs as the youth start-up school. In addition, studies on the effects of social support and institutional support on the entrepreneurial intention of young generation entrepreneurs are being actively pursued. Meanwhile, the study for baby boomers is on the welfare side mainly. Although they are starting to make their living-based business without prior careful preparation for their livelihood after retirement, while there is little study on the effect of social support for this baby boomer on entrepreneurial opportunity competence needed for opportunistic entrepreneurship. Therefore, in this study, in order to investigate the effect of social support on Baby boomer's entrepreneurial opportunity competence, an empirical analysis of the 387 questionnaires collected by the baby boomers living in Seoul and Gyeonggi provinces were conducted. As a result of analysis, First, Social support has a significant effect on both Opportunity recognition and Opportunity assessment of entrepreneurial opportunity competence. Second, In the effects of social support on self-efficacy were found to be significant in Emotional and Instrument support only on Self-confidence, In Emotional support and Feedback support only on Self-regulated efficacy & Emotional support and Instrument support only on Goal challenge were found to be a significant effect. Third, Self-regulated efficacy and Goal challenge in the Entrepreneurial self-efficacy on Entrepreneurial opportunity recognition were found to be a significant effect. All Self-confidence, Self-regulated efficacy & Goal challenge in the Entrepreneurial self-efficacy on Entrepreneurial opportunity assessment were found to be a significant effect. Fourth, Indirect effect of social support on entrepreneurial opportunity competence mediated by Entrepreneurial self-efficacy was found to be partially significant.
The purpose of this study is to qualitatively investigate how career women form their self-identity in relationship to their parents from the viewpoint of life-span development, and to provide practical information helpful for understanding the change of relationship between parents and adult children and forming desirable parents-daughter relationships by developing the substance theory which suits the socio-cultural context of Korea. In this study, 24 unmarried women who have parents and engage in professional jobs were selected for an in-depth interview. From the findings of this study, 67 concepts, 29 subordinate categories and 13 categories were extracted during the process of open-coding; a research model was then constructed according to the paradigm of the grounded theory. It was found that there are three types: the reality-convinced type, the conflict-compromising type and the self-regulated type who "persistently worry about themselves and try to develop". These results verify the process of career women "worrying about themselves and developing constantly" and its structure by forming their self-identities, adjusting the effects of several contextual factors and using mediatory strategies in the developmental process of self-identity.
According to changing the society rapidly in the 21s1 century, the self-regulated learning ability is considered as an ability of which people should carry on their lives. The purpose of this study was to investigate prospective elementary school teachers in mathematics teaching method class in terms of the following areas: (1) the degree of their abilities shown the lower level factors of motivated strategies for learning such as self-efficacy, intrinsic value, anxiety, cognitive strategy use, and self-regulation (2) relations between factors of motivated strategies for loaming and performance of prospective elementary school teachers The results show that the prospective elementary school teachers showed above the mean value of the motivated strategies for learning and there are positive relations among lower level factors of motivated strategies fur learning except anxiety, positive relation between motivated strategies for learning and achievement. In order to help the prospective elementary school teacher to improve their motivated strategies fur learning in their elementary mathematics teaching method lecture, several methods such as mathematical connections to real world problem, history of mathematics and interview with mathematicians and application of feller's ARCS model to elementary mathematics education are suggested.
The aim of this study is to understand the effects of a self-leadership program on career recognition and self-efficacy in adolescents under probation. As a result, it was discovered that the self-leadership program had statistically significant differences in self-understanding, the understanding of work and the job world, setting a career goal and strategies in the sub-area of career recognition in adolescents under probation while there was no significant difference in the area of attitudes and values of work. The self-leadership program had statistically significant differences in confidence, self-regulated efficacy among the sub-area of self-efficacy of the subjects while there were no significant differences in the difficulty of the challenge. These results suggest that the self-leadership program had significant effects on career recognition and self-efficacy in adolescents under probation. In order to improve the career recognition and self-efficacy in adolescents under probation, further studies on the self-leadership program are needed and care should be paid to its usability.
The Self-reported Evaluation tool developed in this study allows the learners to check and evaluate their own learning by determining the details that are self-assessed. Also this tool allows learners to receive feedback on their self - evaluation results. In this study pre - post test was performed to investigate the effect of self - assessment on the learners' tendency of studying math. The result showed that Self-reported evaluation improved self - confidence, self - strategy on learning mathematics, and meta-cognitive ability. Also by conducting a qualitative analysis of the Self-reported evaluation, students practiced the cognitive activities such as summarizing the contents they have learned that day. They also tried to understand and improve the learning habit, attitude, and learning state. Teachers were also able to communicate with students by providing individual questions and feedback through student's individual Self-reported Evaluation.

The purpose of this study is to investigate relationships among scientific self-efficacy, achievement in science and cognitive self-regulation learning strategy. The subjects were composed of 158 elementary school students. Data of students' self-efficacy related to science and cognitive self-regulation learning strategy measured by questionnaire were analyzed. Science achievement scores were also collected. The results indicated that self-efficacy and cognitive self-regulation learning strategy predicted science scores. The findings showed that cognitive selfregulation learning strategy mediated the relation between self-efficacy and achievement in science. Memory learning strategy, considered a cognitive self-regulation learning strategy, did not mediate the relation between self-efficacy and science scores. The implications of science education to develop students' science achievement in the classroom and the suggestions for future researchers are discussed.
