Results: The findings were classified into seven themes: 'Starting feeling hope and delight', 'putting sustained energy into lecturing and training', 'struggling in the tense atmosphere where assessments are often conducted', 'gaining courage in an associated relationship network', 'experiencing confusion of the identity as a professor', 'seeking compromise, handling their work and housework', and 'shedding new light on reality with self-awareness'. Conclusion: This study is significant in that it offered the foundation for the creation of human resources networks and mentoring programs that help newly appointed professors to effectively adjust to university society on the basis of the sympathetic understanding of and support for their life.

  • Asynchronous Learning Networks (ALN) has become a kind of prevalent information systems to supplement or even substitute a traditional classroom face-to-face teaching method. In this paper, we investigate the impacts of types of courses, lecturers' instruction models and computer self-efficacy on the ALN effectiveness in teaching from lecturers' perspective. We conducted survey to professors in various faculties such as School of Computing, Faculty of Arts, Science, Business, Law and Engineering in the National University of Singapore. According to the responses from ninety-eight professors, instruction modes positively influence the usage of ALN; types of course and lecturers' computer-efficacy influence lectures' satisfaction of ALN in teaching. Both the usage of ALN and satisfaction of ALN positively influence the effectiveness of ALN. The results of this study fill the gap of ALN researches in education by examining it from lecturers' perspective and enable schools to improve their implementation of ALN systems based on our findings.

  • Through the development of the Internet and multimedia systems, usage of cyber education with multimedia contents is increasing. On-line education differs from face-to-face education in that it overcomes the limits of the time and space, and supports a repeated self study at the student's study level while using several media and educational contents. In this paper, we will design and implement e-commerce educational content which is effective for students and useful for the process of cyber education. In addition, we will produce statistics from a questionnaire which questioned students on the effectiveness of the content.

  • Learners show lower cooperation and responsibility at e-Learning(Electronic Learning) than face-to-face learners in class. Accordingly the LMS(Learning Management System) focus on collaborative learning design in order to promote the learner's interaction. In this paper, the Experience Learning Support System with JXTA-based P2P(Peer-to-Peer) architecture is proposed for an effective collaborative learning and a blended learning. It intends learners to develop a self-leading learning ability and a creative problem-solving ability through experience learning object's sharing. The experimental results described that the proposed system was more effective in an enhancing learner's learning ability and a cooperative learning than existing system.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the degree of senile macular degeneration in elders aged 65 or older and identify factors associated with senile macular degeneration in elders within communities. Methods: Participants in this cross-sectional descriptive study were 388 elders without cataract, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. Data were collected through face to face interviews using a questionnaire in an urban area from June 2010 to December 2011. To detect senile macular degeneration, the participants' self-tests were carried out with Amsler grid testing. Stepwise multivariate logistic regression was performed to evaluate the effects of health behavior and knowledge about eye health on senile macular degeneration. Results: The proportion of participants with senile macular degeneration was 11.6%. Factors that significantly increased the risk of senile macular degeneration included eye discomfort and history of ophthalmic examination (p<.05). Factors that significantly decreased the risk of senile macular degeneration included regular change of magnifiers, non-use of magnifiers, and knowledge about preventive effects of non-smoking and antioxidant vitamin intake on senile macular degeneration (p<.05). Conclusion: This study showed that programs for preventing senile macular degeneration were necessary for elders within communities and the results of this study can be used for developing those programs.

Of the participants. 155 women who obtained a mammogram during the data collection period were classified as the mammography group and the other 155 who had never had a mammogram were classified as the non-mammography group. The researcher developed instrument used in the study. which included demographic variables and questions measuring the concepts of the HBM components. Trained data collectors administered the questionnaire employing a face-to-face survey method in the waiting areas of hospitals and health promotion centers. The study results indicated that age. knowledge. perceived susceptibility. and self-efficacy were identified as the significant variables in explaining Korean women's mammography screening behavior, whereas, perceived severity, perceived benefits, and perceived barriers were not significantly related to mammography screening behavior of the participants. • Although the Internet has been a important communication tool in modem societies, researchers did not pay attention to its' positive impacts on individual's psychological process. The Internet provides users with a unique environment such as visual isolation, non face-to-face communication, and easiness to escape from social influences. This environment enables people to take free action according to their personality and disclose themselves. From the uses and gratification perspective, the current research reveals that individuals with high extraversion are inclined to maintain social networking sites and those with high openness participate in web communities. The findings indicate that individuals' social use of the internet may reflect their personality. This study, also, reveals that controlling the big five personality dimensions, the amount of self-disclosure through ones' social networking site is positively related with subjective happiness. This finding suggests that like confession behaviors in religious or curing facilities, people can use the Internet as a therapeutic or a preventative method for promoting their well-being. Theoretical contributions and practical implications are discussed.
