Evaluation of a Community Health Practitioner Self-care Program for Rural Korean Patients with Osteoarthritis

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate a self-care program for elders with osteoarthritis managed by primary health care workers, Community Health Practitioners (CHPs), in rural Korea. Methods: The self-care program, consisting of 7 areas, was evaluated with a randomized experimental study for patients over age 60 with osteoarthritis in which 150 participants in the experimental group and 140 in the control group were compared. The self-care program was implemented for six weeks, 2 hours per week, at community health posts by CHPs. Data were collected using an interview questionnaire given by the CHPs and laboratory tests before and after the intervention for both groups. Propensity score matching analysis was done to test effectiveness after controlling for confounding variables. Results: The intervention group showed a significant decrease in the number of painful joints (p<.001) and a significant increase in self-care ability (p<.05) compared to the control group. Conclusion: Study results indicate that training and utilizing primary health care workers in rural areas is valuable in increasing the generalization and continuity of intervention programs. As arthritis should be managed life-long, CHP directed self-care programs are useful interventions for rural elders with arthritis to learn self-care management.

Development and validation of Korean employment hope scale(K-EHS) as a evaluation tool for self-sufficiency programs (정서적 자활 성과 지표 도입 연구 : 한국형 고용 희망 척도(Korean Employment Hope Scale: K-EHS) 개발과 타당도 검증)

  • The current study aims to validate Employment Hope Scale (EHS), a dimension of Psychological Self-Sufficiency (PSS) scale, among self-sufficiency program participants in South Korea. Self-sufficiency has been understood primarily from an economic perspective in both policies and studies, with which the process participants changes has been ignored and neglected. This study suggests psychological approach to self-sufficiency programs for the paradigm shift to 'client-centered' practice. In this regard, this study tests the validity of EHS using exploratory factor analsysi (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) in South Korea, developed from a bottom-up client-centered approach and found a 4-factor 17-item structure as Korean EHS(K-EHS). The study results indicate that the K-EHS can be used as a valid supplementary process evaluation tool for self-sufficiency programs.

The Effect of Appearance Satisfaction and University Adaptability on the Self-Esteem among University Students (대학생의 외모만족도와 대학생활적응능력이 자아존중감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Appearance Satisfaction and University Adaptability on Self-Esteem among university students and presents basic data for helping healthy adaption of university life. A survey was held to the university students in Chungcheong cities from September 9 to 20, 2018. of 250 copies of the questionnaire distributed, a total of 228 copies were in the final analysis. For data analysis, SPSS 23.0 for Windows was used. As a result, there were correlations between variables, the Self-Esteem of university students were affected by the Appearance Satisfaction, University Adaptability. Self-evaluation about one's appearance and Benefits from Appearance. And the largest effect was the Self-evaluation about one's appearance. As for the verification statistics of the regression model, its explanatory coefficient($R^2$) was 0.30, which weans that the explanatory power of independent variables was 30% for the dependent ones. In conclusion, it is need to development program and counseling with considering Self-evaluation about one's appearance for improving Self-Esteem.

  • The aim of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness of bibliotherapy program for university students. Bibliotherapy program was designed and apply to crash course of 'Library Science' at Graduate School of Library, Archive & Information Studies in Pusan National University for fall semester 2006. A evaluation way of bibliotherapy program was a self-evaluation method for 5 cases of 39 university students participated in bibliotherapy program with examining of self-identity. The results have two obtains. 1) This program has a effectiveness in change of inner world. 2) Bibliotherapy program has a effectiveness in establishing ego-identity of university students.

An Exploratory Study on Apparel Design Evaluation Criteria with Consumers' Perspectives -Focusing on Female College Students Majoring in Apparel-Fashion Design in their 20s- (소비자 관점의 의복 디자인 평가 요소에 대한 탐색적 연구 -20대 의류-패션 디자인 전공 여대생을 중심으로-)

  • This study investigates the multidimensional structure of apparel design evaluation criteria and the details of each criterion by exploring how female college students majoring in apparel design in their 20s evaluate apparel design based on an exploratory approach. Data were analyzed through a categorization method of qualitative data after collecting from a literature review and three focus group interviews. The results identified the six evaluation criteria of apparel design (functional usefulness, convenience, aesthetics, psychological self suitability, social activity usefulness, and fashion trend). Functional usefulness and convenience assessed the extent to which primary features of apparel are reflected in apparel design, and aesthetics evaluated the aesthetic beauty of apparel design. Psychological self suitability estimated the extent to which apparel design expressed psychological self properly, and social activity usefulness appraised the extent to which apparel design contributed to the social activities of wearers. Last, fashion trend assessed the extent to which apparel design reflected fashion trend. The study results provide meaningful implications towards an apparel industry that wants to develop apparel design that appeals to consumers, educational institutions that aim to cultivate well-trained professionals in the apparel industry, and consumers who want to purchase clothes of satisfactory design.

The Fault Tolerant Evaluation Model due to the Periodic Automatic Fault Detection Function of the Safety-critical I&C Systems in the Nuclear Power Plants (원전 안전필수 계측제어시스템의 주기적 자동고장검출기능에 따른 고장허용 평가모델)

  • This study suggests a generalized availability and safety evaluation model to evaluate the influences to the system's fault tolerant capabilities depending on automatic fault detection function such as the automatic periodic testings. The conventional evaluation model of automatic fault detection function deals only with the self diagnostics, and supposes that the fault detection coverage of self diagnostics is always constant. But all of the fault detection methods could be degraded. For example, the periodic surveillance test has the potential human errors or test equipment errors, the self diagnostics has the potential degradation of built-in logics, and the automatic periodic testing has the potential degradation of automatic test facilities. The suggested evaluation models have incorporated the loss or erroneous behaviors of the automatic fault detection methods. The availability and the safety of each module of the safety grade platform have been evaluated as they were applied the automatic periodic test methodology and the fault tolerant evaluation models. The availability and safety of the safety grade platform were improved when applied the automatic periodic testing. Especially the fault tolerant capability of the processor module with a weak self-diagnostics and the process parameter input modules were dramatically improved compared to the conventional cases. In addition, as a result of the safety evaluation of the digital reactor protection system, the system safety of the digital parts was improved about 4 times compared to the conventional cases.

A Case Study on Student Self-Evaluation of Wrong Answers in School Mathematics (수학 교과에서의 학생의 오답원인 자기평가에 관한 사례 연구)

  • This study is to investigate the change of intelligent and affective domains through the student self-evaluation to identify causes of wrong answers. Through this evaluation, students could have opportunities to solve the given mathematical problems basically and to reflect their problem-solving process, and further to recognize which mathematical content(concepts or expressions, symbols, etc.) led them to solve the problems incorrectly or wrong. Through this process, they would correct their wrong process and answers and to reinforce the prerequisite knowledges relevant to the problems, and furthermore, to enhance problem-solving abilities. To accomplish this, this study was executed as a case study on the subject of four tenth graders. The subject consisted of two boys and two girls. In this study, three essay types of mathematical problems in tenth grade level were chosen from several domestic tests in Korea. Based on the original three essay type of problems, three types of similar problems, namely equivalent problem, similar problem, and isomorphic problems were reconstructed, respectively by the researchers. The subjects were guided to solve the original three problems, and they corrected their wrong parts of the first problem of the three problems. They solved an equivalent problem of the first problem and executed self evaluation and also corrected wrong parts. Next, they dealt with a similar problem of the first problem and executed self evaluation and also corrected wrong parts. Next, while dealing with an isomorphic problem of the first problem, the subjects did the same things. Thus, for the second and third original problems, the study was implemented in the same way. To explore their intelligent and affective domains through student self-evaluation in-depth, the subjects were interviewed formally before and after conducting the experiment and interviewed informally two times, and the recordings were audio-typed.

The Stern Hull Form Design using the Flow Analysis around Stern Skeg (선미 스케그 주위의 유동 분석에 의한 선미 형상 설계)

  • The optimized distance between skegs and angle of the skeg for a standard twin-skeg type LNG carrier were presented using the CFD and model tests. The evaluation method of self-propulsion performance was derived based on the results of CFD and confirmed the validity through model tests. The analyses to assess self-propulsion performance using CFD were shown by flow line patterns on the skeg surface, nominal wake distribution in the propeller plane and the evaluation for flow balance around stern skegs. The optimized ship that was applied to the optimized two design parameters in stern skeg arrangement for target ship was derived in this work. Finally speed performance of mother ship which is existing ship and optimized ship were compared through CFD and model tests. And the usefulness about the evaluation method of self-propulsion performance was reconfirmed.

Self-Directed Learning Evaluation Using Fuzzy Grade Sheets

  • This paper is about the use of existing evaluation methods, which evaluate learning determined by the score of an exam, which is either a multiple-choice type or single choice type question. These scores don't show the objective evaluations that cause some negative opinions about the scores. In this paper, we propose that the evaluation of the methods of self-directed learning use the triangle-type function of the fuzzy theory so that the learner can objectively evaluate their own learning ability. The proposed method classifies the result of learning into three fuzzy grades to calculate membership, and evaluate the result of an exam according to the final fuzzy grade degree as applied to the fuzzy grade sheets.

  • Korea has enacted the Performance Evaluation law on the R&D Programs since 2006. This study categorizes program size, program history, sustainability, self-evaluation result as antecedents, and analyze the relationship between the antecedents and Meta-evaluation result, the change rate of appropriations. The result shows that program size, program history, self-evaluation result have significant effect to the Meta-evaluation result. And Meta-evaluation result has significant effect to the change rate of appropriations. This study has implication that the performance evaluation system shows significant effect to the appropriations.
