This study examined the influences of current education programs for preservice chemistry teachers upon preservice science teachers' self-images as science teachers by using Draw-A-Science-Teacher-Test Checklist (DASTT-C). Seventy-two juniors and fifty-three seniors were selected from the department of chemistry education or department of science education (chemistry major) in three colleges of education. DASTT-C was administered to the juniors before having science education courses, and to the seniors before and after teaching practices. The results revealed that preservice science teachers' self-images as science teachers were more ‘teacher-centered' than ‘student-centered'. Only a few preservice science teachers exhibited ‘student-centered' images after having science education courses including the contents on constructivism. The self-images of some preservice science teachers even changed from ‘student-centered' to ‘teacher-centered' after having teaching practices. Many preservice science teachers answered that the main factors affected to their self-images as science teachers were prior teaching-learning experiences and/or the lim itations in the real situations. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of a self-evaluation method using video recording on competency in nursing skills, self-directed learning ability, and academic self-efficacy in nursing students. Methods: The study design was a non-equivalent pre-post quasi-experimental design. The experimental and control groups were randomly assigned with 35 participants in each group. Interventions for the experimental group were video recording and students' self-evaluation of what they did. Nursing skills included in the study were tube feeding, intradermal injection, subcutaneous injection, and intramuscular injection. Competency in nursing skills was measured one time at the end of the study using a checklist. Self-directed learning ability and academic self-efficacy were measured 3 times (pre-, mid-, and post-intervention) over the 8 weeks. Independent t-test, chi-square test, and repeated measures ANOVA were used for data analyses. Results: There was no statistically significant difference for competency in nursing skills and self-directed learning ability over the 8 weeks of the practice session. There was a significant difference in academic self-efficacy by groups over time. Conclusion: Results indicate that self-evaluation method using video recording is an effective learning way to improve academic achievement in nursing students.
Objectives: Although vaccination rates have increased, problems still remain in the storage and handling of vaccines. This study focused on inspecting actual vaccine storage status and awareness, and comparing them before and after education was provided. Methods: In the primary inspection, a status survey checklist was completed by visual inspection. A questionnaire on the awareness of proper vaccine storage and handling was also administered to vaccine administrators in private medical institutions in 4 regions in Gyeongsangbuk-province. One-on-one education was then carried out, and our self-produced manual on safe vaccine storage and management methods was provided. In the secondary inspection, the investigators visited the same medical institutions and used the same questionnaire and checklist used during the primary inspection. The results before and after education were compared, by treating each appropriate answer as 1 point. Results: The average checklists score was 9.74 (out of 15 points), which increased significantly after education was provided (by 0.84, p<0.001). The participants demonstrated improved practices in recording storage temperatures(p=0.016), storing vaccines in the center of the refrigerator (p=0.004), storing vaccines with other medication and nonmedical items (p=0.031) after education. The average score calculated from the questionnaires was 10.48 (out of 14points), which increased after education (by 1.03, p<0.001). Conclusions: This study suggests that vaccine storage practices and awareness are inadequate, but can be partially improved by providing relevant education. Repetitive education and policy-making are required to store vaccines safely because one-off education and unenforced guidelines offer limited efficacy.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)-After School Checklist (ASK) by comparing the results of the Comprehensive Attention Test (CAT) and Clinical Global Impression-Severity (CGI-S) Scale and then by calculating the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Methods: We performed correlation analyses on the ASK and CAT results and then the ASK and CGI-S results. We created a ROC curve and evaluated performance on the ASK as a diagnostic tool. We then analyzed the test results of 1348 subjects (male 56.8%), including 1201 subjects in the general population and 147 ADHD subjects, aged 6-15 years, from kindergarten to middle school in Seoul and Gyeonggi province, South Korea. Results: According to the correlation analyses, ASK scores and the Attention Quotient (AQ) of CAT scores showed a significant correlation of -0.20--0.29 (p<0.05). The t-test between ADHD scores and CGI-S also showed a significant correlation (t=-2.55, p<0.05). The area under the ROC curve was calculated as 0.81, indicating good efficacy of the ASK, and the cut-off score was calculated as 15.5. Conclusion: The ASK can be used as a valid tool not only to evaluate functional impairment of ADHD children and adolescents but also to screen ADHD.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a heart health diary to promote self-care ability among patients with heart failure (HF), and to identify the diary's effect on self-care adherence, self-efficacy, and physical activity. Methods: A randomized control-group pretest-posttest design was adopted using block randomization. A calender-typed health diary was developed and it included a self-care checklist and education information on HF management. The experimental group were given guided counseling and education for 8 weeks and wrote a daily health diary during that period. Data were collected from the outpatient department of a tertiary medical center from February to April 2016. To verify the hypotheses, data for the experimental group (n=28) and control group (n=33) were analysed using the independent t-test with SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: At the end of 8 weeks the experimental group had significantly higher scores for self-care adherence (t=-2.48, p =.016) and exercise related self-efficacy (t=-3.44, p =.001) compared to the control group. Conclusion: The findings show that the application of a patient-directed heart health diary is an effective nursing intervention for improving HF patients' self-care adherence and exercise self-efficacy. Strategies to promote dietary self-efficacy are necessary along with further studies including repeated research with an increasing intervention period. Healthcare providers need to encourage the utilization of a health diary for HF patients as a tool for evaluation and for implementation that leads to self-care.

Purpose: Postpartum fatigue can impact maternal well-being and has been associated with levels of perceived self-care. This study aimed to examine the relationship among fatigue, depressive mood, self-care agency, and self-care action among postpartum women in Bangladesh. Methods: A descriptive cross sectional survey was done with 124 first-time mothers from two tertiary hospitals in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Modified Fatigue Symptoms checklist, Denyes' Self Care Instrument, the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, and items on sociodemographic and delivery-related characteristics, were used in Bengali via translation and back-translation process. Results: High fatigue levels were found in 18.5% (n=23) and 73.4% had possible depression (n=91). There was a significant negative relationship between fatigue and self-care agency (r=-.31, p<.001), and self-care action (r=-.21, p<.05). Fatigue differed by level of self-care agency (t=4.06, p<.001), self-care action (t=2.36, p=.023), newborn's APGAR score (t=-2.93, p=.004), parental preparation class participation (F=15.53, p<.001), and postpartum depressive mood (t=-4.64, p<.001). Conclusion: Findings suggest that high level of self-care efficacy and behaviors can contribute to fatigue management, and highlight the need for practical interventions to better prepare mothers for postpartum self-care, which may, in turn, alleviate postpartum fatigue.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to validate the Moral Intelligence Checklist(MIC) of Borba (2001) modified by Kim et al. (2010) for college students majoring in health. Methods: The MIC survey was performed with 348 college students in Gongju, Chungnam. Initial MIC modified by Kim et al. (2010) consists of 7 factors (empathy, self-control, conscience, kindness, fairness, respect and tolerance) and 42 items. Data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis. Results: We finally analyzed with 37 items, because 5 items with estimates level below 0.5 were deleted. The Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ of 7 factors were ranged from .780 to .851. Finally, the model fit of GFI(.805), CFI(.864), RMSEA(.033) was satisfied with confirmatory factor analysis using structural equation model. Conclusion: This MIC model is suggested to be used in development of moral intelligence educational programs.
Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the relationships among job stress, job satisfaction, and mental health in marine officers. Methods: The researchers gathered data on marine officers working at a harbor in Chungcheong Province, South Korea, using a self-reported questionnaire. Mental health was measured by the Symptom Checklist-90-Revision (SCL-90-R), and general characteristics including socioeconomic factors, job stress, and job satisfaction were measured by structured questionnaires. Multiple regression analysis was performed to investigate the relationships among job stress, job satisfaction, and mental health status according to the symptom dimensions of the SCL-90-R. Results: Among the marine officers, obsessive-compulsive behavior, depression, and somatization were the most problematic symptoms. Those who reported poor health, low job satisfaction, and high job stress had a higher prevalence of psychoticism, somatization, depression, anxiety, and phobic anxiety. Conclusions: An occupational health system should be introduced that would regularly check the mental health of marine officers in charge of ships and sailors, in order to help reduce their stress levels, enhance their job satisfaction, and thereby improve their mental health.
The purpose of this study was to conduct a family impact analysis to examine the effects of policies to lower fertility in families in Korea. Data were collected from a purposive sample of three groups of government officials, family scholars, and staff at family-related organizations and associations. 105 family policy professionals responded to the self-report questionnaire. The family impact analysis scale was formulated by the researcher based on Ooms'(1995)'A checklist for assessing the impact of policies on families' and Lawson & Lawson's(2001)'An example on family impact analysis checklist or inventory.' The results showed there were eight factors in the family impact analysis on the policies to low fertility in Korea; strengthening family membership and stability; providing various convenient public services; recognizing family interdependence; recognizing the efficiency of implementing policies and support of vulnerable families; strengthening the family function of childbirth; recognizing family relationships; preventing family problems and empowering families; and recognizing family diversity. The conclusions and implications of these findings were also discussed.

Objective : The purpose of the study was to investigate the characteristics and psychometric properties of assessments which were developed to measure sensory processing functions of preschool-aged children. Method : Comprehensive search for assessments measuring sensory processing functions was administered by using multiple electronic databases, including PubMed, Cochrane, CINAHL and PsycINFO. The titles and abstracts from the retrieved papers were screened. Then assessment tools that met all of the inclusion criteria were selected. Results : Thirty-eight assessments were identified. There were eight assessment tools that met the pre-defined inclusion criteria. Sensory Processing Measure-Preschool (SPM-P) was verified to be the most reliable and valid assessment tool, whereas Sensory Experiences Questionnaire (SEQ), Sense & Self-Regulation Checklist (SSRC), and Sensory Processing Scale Assessment (SPSA) showed inadequate reliability and validity. Conclusion : Based on the results from this systematic review, it would be useful for clinicians and researchers to select assessment tools of sensory processing for preschool-aged children.
