The purpose of this study was to introduce PBL to dental hygienist education in an effort to raise a question about the inauthentic and inappropriate curriculum. PBL is one of learning methods to enhance the problem-solving ability of learners, and it's attempted to develop a PBL package focusing on dental hygienist roles to lay the foundation for producing competent and expert dental hygienists with a good problem- solving ability. The literature concerned was reviewed from November 2002 through January 2003 to determine whether or not PBL was applicable to dental-hygienist course, and that turned out to be effective for dental hygienist education. And then a PBL package was developed to train students to be knowledgeable and have a knowhow and excellent problem-solving skills. The characteristics of the PBL package could be described as follows: First, that focused on dental hygienist roles to serve the purpose of this study to remedy the current unrealistic and improper curriculum and improve the problem-solving skills of learners. Second, time factor was taken into account. In this four-week course for two credits, there are four classes a week, and it's required to take six or eight weeks to apply the PBL package, which is expected to demotivate students. Therefore, it's planned to conduct more weekly classes to make a proper progress. Third, a wide variety of teaching aids were put to use, and learner would be encouraged to be more interactive and utilize teaching aids properly, and eventually, they could have an opportunity to better express themselves. Fourth, online real-time learner discussion would be attended by this researcher. Learners would have a discussion in real time in the Internet cafe chat room, and different discussion time would be allocated to each team. This researcher would take part in each team's discussion once or more. Fifth, learners would prepare one or more journal(s) about four-hour Internet cafe learning. They have to make it twice a week at least, and it would be a good opportunity for learners to look back on themselves and their teams, and their learning effect would be greater. Specific rules were presented to help them make a successful self-examination. Sixth, there are some spaces in the lower part of objective test sheets to have students describe why they make a particular answer choice. They would be asked to depict the reason of their prior evaluation and lecture assessment especially because their responses would be important for more successful discussion and feedback. Seventh, problem-solving approach was designed to attain learning objectives, stimulate the creative thinking of learners and help them share a more systematic discussion. That would serve as a secondhand guide not to make them digress when they discuss by using information they acquire from a scenario presented in class.

Background : This study was done to assess the relationship among multiple patient outcomes of cataract surgery perioperatively, 3-4 months and 12 months after surgery. The patient outcomes include changes in visual acuity(operated eye, better eye), visual function(VF-14), patient satisfaction, subjective satisfaction with vision, and subjective overall health status. Methods : For the assessment of relationship, prospective study was performed with 92 patients who had undergone either one or both eye cataract surgery by 3 ophthalmologists practicing at a university hospital. Patients were interviewed. and clinical data were obtained. Doctors were questioned with self-entered questionnaire forms. Medical record was examined to understand surgery process. The survey was conducted at 4 stages : preoperatively, perioperatively, postoperative 3-4 months, and postoperative 12 months. Results : The correlations within patient outcomes at 4 stages - the visual acuity of operated eye and that of better eye, patient satisfaction and VF-14, subjective overall health status and relative health status as against others - were found to be positively correlated. The change in the visual acuity of operated eye and better eye was correlated with VF-14 as well as with patient satisfaction. The change was also correlated with overall health status. However, the correlations between variables were decreased as the postoperative period got longer. Conclusion : As for the postoperative clinical patient outcomes, VF-14 is acted to linker between visual acuity - clinical outcomes and overall health status - endpoint outcomes. Therefore. VF-14 is the index of patient-sided and disease-specific outcome for cataract surgery.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the exposure levels of door-to-door deliverers to fine particulate matter (PM2.5). Another objective was to confirm the general working patterns of door-to-door deliverers via survey. Methods: In the city of Daegu, ten door-to-door deliverers who wished to join the study were recruited. The general working characteristics of door-to-door deliverers were surveyed using self-reported questionnaires. In the cabin of each car driven by a deliverer, a real-time PM2.5 sampler (Sidepak, Model AM510, TSI Inc., MN, USA) and a GPS device (GPS 741, Ascen, Korea) were installed. Each deliverer was monitored for four days per week so that each day could be monitored at least four times. Results: A total of 40 measurements of PM2.5 concentrations were taken during delivery of parcels. The average exposure levels of door-to-door deliverers to PM2.5 was $44.62{\mu}g/m^3$ ($7-9443{\mu}g/m^3$. Exposure levels to PM2.5 according to the day of the week and coverage areas were not significantly different (p>0.05). Door-to-door deliverers using trucks with older diesel engines manufactured before 2006 had significantly higher exposure levels to PM2.5 than in the case of trucks with diesel engines manufactured after 2006 (p<0.05). Many of the door-to-door deliverers reported the status of having windows open during the delivery task. During delivery services, the working hours spent in residential areas were higher than on roadsides, but exposure levels to PM2.5 in residential areas and on roadsides were $46.17{\mu}g/m^3$ and $49.90{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. Real-time PM2.5 exposure levels were significantly different between roadways and residential areas (p<0.001). Conclusions: PM2.5 exposure levels of door-to-door deliverers were found to be affected by higher vehicle emissions from the roadsides near their vehicle during deliveries and while driving to other locations compared to by PM2.5 from the diesel engines of their own trucks. Particle concentrations from roadsides and emissions from nearby vehicles through open windows were the main source of PM2.5.
This case study examined mathematics anxiety of a public high school sophomore who was unable to perform well in mathematics but later overcame his fear of mathematics. In this study, he showed high levels of mathematics anxiety in the assessment tools that evaluate mathematical anxiety factors. Cognitive and behavior treatments were carried out to alleviate his anxiety. First, cognitive treatments that were implemented include: understanding his own problems, writing down his thoughts on a record sheet, and changing intermediate and core beliefs. This paper explored cognitive and affective changes and reactions during the treatment process. Second, behavioral treatments that were conducted include: the divided-page method and peer tutoring. The divided-page technique involves the test subject to write down and solve his problems on a note to see what kind of cognitive and affective changes occur during the process. This paper also explored how Su-chul, an overly competitive student, changed and reacted cognitively and affectively through peer tutoring. The results revealed that Su-chul's exam anxiety, as well as other factors, has decreased. Moreover, he regained his self-confidence by solving math problems that he had felt difficult. His competitive attitude also has turned into a cooperative and thoughtful one.
Purpose: Pain is the most common and influential symptom in cancer patients. Few studies concerning pain intensity in the terminally ill cancer patients have been done. This study aimed to identify factors related with more than moderate pain. Methods: This study used secondary data of 162 terminal cancer inpatients at the palliative ward of six training hospitals in Korea. Physician-assessed pain assessment was by 10 point numeric rating scale. Substantial pain was defined more than moderate intensity by the Korean National Guideline for cancer pain. The Korean version of the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory was self-administered to assess symptoms. Survival prediction was estimated by the attending physicians at the time of admission. Results: Less than six weeks of predicted survival and more than numeric rating of six for worst drowsiness in the previous 24 h were significantly related to substantial pain (P=0.012 and P=0.046, respectively). The dose of opioid analgesics was positively related to substantial pain (P=0.004). Conclusion: Factors positively related to substantial pain were less than six weeks of predicted survival and considerable drowsiness. Careful monitoring and active preparation for pain are required in terminal cancer patients having those factors.
The purpose of this study is to survey and compare of the science gifted and the mathematics gifted students at elementary school's 171 students who live in the Seoul city, using Attitude Assessment Tool and Learning Motivation in Science. The analytical results of the collected data are presented as follow; Firstly, there was no difference between science gifted and mathematics gifted in the attitude, value, social meaning, and attitude toward science subject and learners mostly have a positive attitude toward science but, there was difference in the preference of the science gifted and mathematics gifted. Science gifted's preference toward science subject is higher than mathematics gifted students. Secondly, there was no difference in the attention, self-efficacy, and contentment in learning motivation in the science but, there was difference between science gifted and mathematics gifted in the relevance.

This study examined the multicultural awareness, cultural sensitivity, and characteristics of multicultural experiences affecting the intercultural communication skills among Korean nursing students. The study participants were a total of 353 nursing students who had completed one or more clinical practice courses and were in 1 University and 2 Colleges. A self-assessment instrument was used. The descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and simple and multiple regression were used to analyze the data. Statistically significant differences in the intercultural communication skill were observed in multicultural education, foreign friends, proficiency in English, stay in foreign countries, and length of stay in foreign countries. The intercultural communication skills was correlated with both multicultural awareness and cultural sensitivity. Multiple regression analysis showed that the multi-cultural awareness, multi-cultural education, and proficiency in English could explain 41.3% of the variances for the intercultural communication skill. Simple regression analysis also showed that the length of stay in foreign countries explained 2.5% of the intercultural communication skill among nursing students, who had stayed in foreign countries. Therefore, nursing educators should improve their multi-cultural awareness and develop various multi-cultural education programs, consider living abroad, and improve their language proficiency to strengthen nursing students' intercultural communication skill.
The purpose of this study was to investigate consumption of health functional food (HFF) and dietary habits, nutrient intake, and dietary quality by HFF consumption in college students. The subjects of this study included 283 college students (179 males and 104 females) in Incheon metropolitan city. The cross-sectional study was conducted using self-reported questionnaires, including kinds of HFF consumed, motivation for purchase, reason for consumption, effect after consumption, reason for no consumption, and dietary habits. A three-day recall method was used for dietary assessment. Dietary qualities were assessed using nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR), mean adequacy ratio (MAR), and nutrient density (ND) values. The percentage of HFF consumption was 40.2% in males and 50.0% in females. The main kinds of HFF consumed by males were vitamins and minerals, red ginseng, protein, and omega-3 fatty acid, in that order. HFF consumed by females were vitamins and minerals, red ginseng, omega-3 fatty acid, and individually approved functional ingredients, in that order. The main motivation for purchase of HFF was recommendation of family and relatives (males 76.4% and females 78.8%). The main reason for consumption of HFF was health promotion (males 67.7% and females 63.5%) and the main reason for no consumption of HFF was not having a health problem (males 49.5% and females 46.2%). The dietary habit score for 'eat the milk or dairy product everyday' (p < 0.05) in females was significantly higher in HFF consumers, compared to HFF non-consumers. In males, the ND of vitamin B1 (p < 0.05) in HFF consumers was significantly higher compared to HFF non-consumers. In females, HFF consumers showed a significantly higher ND of vitamin B2 (p < 0.05) and Ca (p < 0.01), compared to HFF non-consumers. Regardless of HFF consumption, the NAR of vitamin C, folic acid, and Ca was less than 0.7. These results suggest the need for nutrition education for college students in order to improve dietary habits and for balanced nutritional status, and to provide correct information on HFF.

The purpose of this study is to strengthen the capability of rapid mapping for disaster through improving the positioning accuracy of mapping and fusion of multi-sensing point cloud data derived from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and disaster investigation vehicle. The positioning accuracy was evaluated for two procedures of drone mapping with Agisoft PhotoScan: 1) general geo-referencing by self-calibration, 2) proposed geo-referencing with optimized camera model by using fixed accurate Interior Orientation Parameters (IOPs) derived from indoor camera calibration test and bundle adjustment. The analysis result of positioning accuracy showed that positioning RMS error was improved 2~3 m to 0.11~0.28 m in horizontal and 2.85 m to 0.45 m in vertical accuracy, respectively. In addition, proposed data fusion approach of multi-sensing point cloud with the constraints of the height showed that the point matching error was greatly reduced under about 0.07 m. Accordingly, our proposed data fusion approach will enable us to generate effectively and timelinessly ortho-imagery and high-resolution three dimensional geographic data for national disaster management in the future.

Purpose: This study was conducted to develop and evaluate an oral care protocol for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Methods: The participants in this study were cancer patients in Severance hospital in Seoul. A total of 31 patients were assigned to the experimental group, and 29 patients to the control group. Data were collected from August 1 to October 5, 2010. The protocol included definition and symptom of oral mucositis, self-check method of oral status, prophylactic method of oral mucositis (oral care, eating habits, and gargling) and management of oral mucositis. Oral Assessment Guide (OAG) was used as the measurement tool of oral mucositis in this study, Oral Care Performance Scale was used as the measurement tool of oral care performance status. Data were analyzed with a $x^2-test$ and t-test, and repeated measures ANOVA, using SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: Patients in the experimental group receiving the oral care protocol had a significant difference (t=-2.938, p=.005) in the oral care performance compared to the control group. However, there was no significant difference (F=1.255, p=.274) in the oral mucositis status between two groups. Conclusion: This study showed that the oral care protocol could improve oral care performance status for the patients under chemotherapy.
