  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a predictive model for quality of life of elderly residents in long-term care facilities (LTCF). The study was based on Brofenbrenner's ecological system theory and a literature review. Methods: Data were collected using a convenience sample of 205 elderly residents in 2 nursing homes located in D city and 1 nursing home located in K province. The exogenous variables were individual factors, family support, and facility environmental factors. The endogenous variables were self-esteem, accommodation adaptation and quality of life of elderly residents in LTCF. Collected data were analyzed through structural equation modeling using AMOS 20.0. Results: Eleven of the twelve hypotheses were supported, but the hypothesis that facility environment factors effect self-esteem was not supported. Quality of life of elderly residents in LTCF was explained first by facility environmental factors, followed by self-esteem, individual factors, accommodation adaptation, and family support with an explanatory power of 83.0%. Conclusion: To improve the quality of life of elderly residents in LTCF, the service and environment preparation provided by facilities is important, and it is necessary to provide emotional counseling to improve the self-esteem of these elders.

  • The first purpose of this study was to examine a relationship between coping strategies and adaptation in mothers of handicapped children. The second purpose was to assess the relative contribution of coping strategies to maternal adaptation, controlling other variables that previously have been found to be important in determining maternal adaptation. Finally, the unique effect of coping strategies as predictors of maternal adaptation was examined. The subjects consisted of 92 mothers of handicapped children. They were asked to complete several self-report measures that were used to assess the variables of interest. The results indicated that coping was significantly related to maternal adaptation. Specifically, the use of confrontive coping, accepting responsibility, and escape-avoidance coping strategy were related to poorer maternal adaptation. On the other hand, painful problem solving and positive reappraisal strategy were related to better maternal adaptation. The step-wise regression results further indicated that coping strategies were significantly predict maternal adaptation. Specifical1y confrontive coping, accepting responsibility, and positive reappraisal coping strategy contributed significantly to the prediction of maternal adaptation compared to the other variables. Finally, the confrontive coping, accepting responsibility, positive reappraisal strategies turned out to contribute substantially to maternal adaptation even after several other variables were statistically controlled in conservative way. Implications of the findings for social work interventions was discussed.

  • Purpose: This study was to explore association of maternal role adjustments, parenting stresses, and demographic factors to breastfeeding adaptation. Methods: A correlational survey design was used to recruit 183 mothers who breastfeed or breastfed their babies. Participants' visited outpatient departments and were admitted to pediatric ward at 2 hospitals in metropolitan city of Korea. Inclusion criteria for subjects were mothers whose babies were from 1 month to 24 months old. Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire for mothers' and babies' demographic variables, maternal role adjustments, parenting stresses, and maternal breastfeeding adaptations. Results: Higher levels of maternal adaptations and low levels of parenting stresses were associated with greater maternal breastfeeding adaptations. Types of feeding during hospital stays and baby's health status at birth were also associated with maternal breastfeeding adaptation. Conclusion: Results showed that a higher level of mothers' adjustment to breastfeeding; indicated lesser parenting stresses with higher levels of maternal adaptation. Nursing interventions for breastfeeding should be applied for appropriate breastfeeding adaptation during mothers' hospital stay. As baby's poor health status at birth medical team should provide a proper breastfeeding education.

  • As the number of foreign workers increases in Korea, people's interest in their adaptation to this society has also increased. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a forest-healing program on foreign workers' cultural adaptation stress and psychological wellbeing. The experiment was conducted in a recreation forest located in Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do. The subjects who participated in this study included 40 foreign workers (16 males, 24 females). The experiment was conducted for three days and two nights from June 26 to 28, 2019. The forest healing program was composed of activities that can enhance immunity and restore physical and mental health by utilizing various healing environmental factors such as landscapes, sunlight, anion and oxygen in forest. The independent sample t-test was conducted to examine changes in cultural adaptation stress and psychological well-being before and after the program. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program. As a result, cultural adaptation stress was statistically significantly reduced in sub-factors including discrimination experience, language conflict and legal status. Psychological wellbeing improved in all the surveyed sub-factors such as self-confidence, ego, immersion, and joy. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data for reducing the stress foreign workers experience from cultural adaptation and restoring their psychological wellbeing in the future.

  • Purpose : This study aimed to explore and describe intensive care unit (ICU) nurses' experience of clinical adaptation. Methods : The participants were 14 ICU nurses with more than two years of working experience in the ICU. Data were collected through in-depth individual interviews conducted between July and October 2021. Theoretical sampling was used to the point of theoretical saturation. Data were analyzed using the Strauss and Corbin method. Results : A total of 79 concepts, 37 subcategories, and 16 categories were identified through open coding. Axial coding based on the paradigm model revealed that the central phenomenon was "The harsh adversity faced in the nursing field where life and death are determined" and the core category was "Enduring the adversity of caring for critically ill patients and achieving self-realization." ICU nurses' clinical adaptation process was explained in five phases: "confrontation period," "turbulent period," "seeking period," "struggling period," and "stabilized period." The five phases that affect interventional conditions were "Support from reliable people," "Recognition of administrative and financial support." Conclusion : This study provided novel insights for a comprehensive understanding of ICU nurses' clinical adaptation processes. Furthermore, the findings are expected to be used as basic data to develop multifaceted strategies to help ICU nurses' adaptation to critical care.

  • As a countermeasure to reach self-sufficiency for wood supply and demand, we have to develop wood substitutes. Rice hull is the cheapest fiber material we can get in Korea, What is better the yield of rice hull amounts to 1 million tons per year. Before carrying out this study, new ecomaterial rice hull board for housing materials was developed successfully. In order to evaluate whether the rice hull board with or without bioceramic treatment is suitable for housing materials, we studied the environmental effect of the above materials in comparison with the polycarbonate, stainless, or concrete on the adaptation (body weight, water/feed consumption, general signs, urinalysis, autopsy, etc) and the reproduction(litter size, newborn adaptation, etc)of mice. In conclusion, the concrete cage was the worst in the adaptation and so was the stainless steel cage in the reproduction. The rice hull board cage with or without bioceramic treatment was superior or equivalent to other material cages from the standpoints of the adaptation and reproduction.

  • This study analyzed the relationships between positive attitude, leisure attitude, and leisure satisfaction among university students participating in a leisure activity support education program using the metaverse. The results are as follows. First, positive attitude was found to have a significant impact on leisure attitude. Perspective diversification influenced the cognitive and emotional factors of leisure attitude, self-acceptance influenced the emotional factor, and social adaptation influenced both the cognitive and emotional factors. Second, leisure attitude was found to have a significant impact on leisure satisfaction. Cognitive and emotional attitudes influenced all factors of leisure satisfaction, while behavioral attitude primarily influenced the relaxation factor. Third, positive attitude was found to have a significant impact on psychological, social, relaxation, and physiological factors of leisure satisfaction. Perspective diversification and self-acceptance played important roles, while social adaptation influenced all factors of leisure satisfaction. These findings provide important implications for the curriculum design of leisure activity support education programs using the metaverse for university students, focusing on enhancing positive attitude. The metaverse environment offers experiences similar to real-life interactions, which can contribute to enhancing participants' positive attitude and improving their leisure satisfaction. Program design should include elements that enhance participants' self-acceptance and social adaptation abilities, as well as focus on improving self-regulation skills. Through this, university students can enrich their leisure experiences, ultimately contributing to improving their overall quality of life.

  • This paper has a control method proposed for the effective self-tuning fuzzy speed control based on neural network of the induction motor indirect vector control. The vector control of an induction motor provides the decoupled control of the rotor flux magnitude and the torque producing current to performance is desirable. But, the drive performance often degrades for the machine parameter variations and its condition give rise to coupling of flux and torque current. The fuzzy speed control of an induction motor has the robustness about machine parameter variations compared with conventional PID speed control in a way. That proved to be some waf from the true. The purpose of this paper is to improve the adaptation by offering self-turning function to fuzzy speed controller. In this paper, the adaptive mechanism of fuzzy speed control in used ANN(Artificial Neural Network) technique is applied in an IFO induction machine drive, such that the machine can follow a reference model (an ideal field oriented machine) to achieve desired speed. In this paper proved the self-turning method of fuzzy controller has the robustness about parameter variation and the wide range of adaptation by simulation.
