  • PID control has been widely used for real control system Further, there are muchreasearches on control schemes of tuning PID gains. However, there is no results for discrete-time systems with unknown time-dealy and unknown system parameters. On the other hand, Generalized predictive control has been reported as a useful self-tuning control technique for systems with unknown time-delay. So, in this study, based on minimization of a GPC criterion, we present a self-tuning PID control algorithm for unknown parameters and unknown tiem-delay system. A numerical simulation was presented to illuatrate the effectiveness of this method.

  • The oater level control system of the steam generator in a pressurized water reactor and its control Problems are analysed. In this work a stable control strategy Particularly during low Power operation based on the fuzzy control method is studied. The control strategy employs substitutional information using the bypass valve opening instead of incorrectly measured signal at the low How rate as the fuzzy variable of the flow rate during low power operation, and includes the flexible scale adjusting method for fast response at a large transient. A self-tuning algorithm based on the control performance and the descent method is also suggested for tuning the membership function scale. It gives a practical way to tune the controller under real operation. Simulation was carried out on the Compact Nuclear Simulator set up at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and its result showed the good performance of the controller and effectiveness of its tuning.

  • The self-tuning control theory which has so far been studied has the type of a moving average noise mode. In this paper we propose a self-tuning munimum varinace control of the plant with an autoregressive noise model. New identities are introduced to find a munimum variance control input, and the stability and convergence properties in a closed loop system are studied using the BIBO concepts and ODE method. Also the proposed algorithm is compared withe that of the original self-tuning control by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, the hybrid state space self-tuning control technique Is studied within the framework of fuzzy systems and dual-rate sampling control theory. We show that fuzzy modeling techniques can be used to formulate chaotic dynamical systems. Then, we develop the hybrid state space self-tuning fuzzy control techniques with dual-rate sampling for digital control of chaotic systems. An equivalent fast-rate discrete-time state-space model of the continuous-time system is constructed by using fuzzy inference systems. To obtain the continuous-time optimal state feedback gains, the constructed discrete-time fuzzy system is converted into a continuous-time system. The developed optimal continuous-time control law is then convened into an equivalent slow-rate digital control law using the proposed digital redesign method. The proposed technique enables us to systematically and effective]y carry out framework for modeling and control of chaotic systems. The proposed method has been successfully applied for controlling the chaotic trajectories of Chua's circuit.

  • In this paper, using the direct drive arm for plant, the controller is developed to track the desired trajectory in high speed and precision. For the purpose of this, through extending self-tuning pole-placement algorithm, we developed self-tuning pole-shift algorithm which is fast in response and good tracking for the reference tracking change. Developed controller is applied a three-link direct drive arm with the varing payload to track the desired tracking. And, through the computer simulation, the performance of developed controller is compared with the performance of the computed torque method and the self-tuning pole placement algorith.

  • In general, a remotely operated vehicle(ROV) operates at deep sea. The control system of ROV is composed of two local loops; the first loop placed on the surface vessel monitors and manipulates the attitude of the ROV using joystick, and the second part on the ROV automatically controls thrusters and acquires positional data. This paper presents a position control simulation of a ROV using an adaptive controller and discusses the control effects of two different conditions. The design of an adaptive control system is obtained by the application of a self-tuning controller with the minimization of an appropriate cost function. The parameters of the control system are estimated by a recursive least square method(RLS). In the simulation, a Runge-Kutta method is used for the numerical integration and the generated outputs are obtained by adding measurement errors. Additionally, this paper discusses the mathematical modelling of a ROV and make a survey of control systems.

  • The PID controllers which is widely used in the process industry are poorly damped when the dynamic process contains significant dead time or when there are random disturbances acting on the plant. GPC is known to be more superior than conventional self-tuning algorithm in overcoming above problem and prior choice of model order. In this paper, we propose the method which determine the parameter of PID controller from minimization of GPC criterion. The controller has emplicit scheme which is comprised of parameter estimation and PID control design. Simulation results show the performance of the proposed self-tuning PID controller.

  • This paper presents a new approach to the design of self-tuning adaptive control system that is robust to the changing dynamic configuration as well as to the load variation factors using Digital signal processors for robot manipulators. TMS32OC50 is used in implementing real-time adaptive control algorithms to provide advanced performance for robot manipulator. In this paper, an adaptive control scheme is proposed in order to design the pole-placement self-tuning controller which can reject the offset due to any load disturbance without a detailed description of robot dynamics. Parameters of discrete-time difference model are estimated by the recursive least-square identification algorithm, and controller parameters are determined by the pole-placement method. Performance of self-tuning adaptive controller is illustrated by the simulation and experiment for a SCARA robot.

  • This paper concerned about a study on the direct pole placement PID self-tuning controller design for Robot manipulator control system. The method of a direct pole placement self-tuning PID control for a DC motor of robot manipulator tracks a reference velocity in spite of the parameters uncertainties in nonminimum phase system. In this scheme, the parameters of controller are estimated by the recursive least square(RLS) identification algorithm, the pole placement method and diophantine equation. A series of simulation in which minimum phase system and nonminimum phase system are subjected to a pattern of system parameter changes is presented to show some of the features of the proposed control algorithm. The proposed control algorithm which shown are effective for the practical application, and experiments of DC motor speed control for Robot manipulator by a microcomputer IRH-PC/AT are performed and the results are well suited.
