In this paper, the adaptive neural network technique is proposed to control the speed of wind power generation system. For maximizing generated power effectively, adaptive neural algorithm based on SRWMM(Self Recurrent Wavelet Neural Network) is derived to on-line adjust the excitation winding voltage of the generator. Through computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed method can achieve smooth and asymptotic rotor speed tracking.

This paper concerns a three-phase self-excited induction generator used for autonomous power generation. It presents a robust control strategy which makes it possible to maintain the frequency quasi constant during the voltage regulation without any control loop on this variable. This strategy, which also prevents the machine disengagement, uses as power converter a simple dimmer. The obtained theoretical and/or numerical results are validated on a laboratory test bench that allows the analysis of this control law effectiveness.

The possibility of a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) submodule was evaluated as an independent power source that can drive a smart liquid crystal window (SLW) that selectively blocks sunlight when electricity is applied. In order to save energy and increase the functionality of buildings, SLW operation was supplied directly from DSSC submodule, rather than connecting to the existing power system and external power sources. It was confirmed that the SLW can control light transmittance through self-generation using the DSSC submodule composed of 6 cells at low light of 2,500 lux. These results imply that there is a high possibility of combining smart windows and DSSCs suitable for window-type building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems. DSSCs, which can self-generate power in low light, are expected to increase their usability in urban BIPV systems through combination with smart window technology.

The growth in global population and industrialization has led to an increasing demand for electricity. Accordingly, the electricity providers need to increase the electricity generation. Due to the economical and environmental concerns associated with the generation of electricity from fossil fuels. Alternative power recourses that can potentially mitigate the economical and environmental are of interest. Renewable energy resources are promising recourses that can participate in producing power. Among renewable power resources, solar energy is an abundant resource and is currently a field of research interest. Photovoltaic solar power is a promising renewable energy resource. The power output of PV systems is mainly affected by the solar irradiation and ambient temperature. this paper investigates the utilization of machine learning unsupervised neural network techniques that potentially improves the reliability of PV solar power systems during integration into the electrical grid.
With the advent of the international standard IEC 61850 for communication networks and systems in substations, utilities are beginning to implement substation automation systems (SAS) that can give support to interoperability, interchangeability and self-description features. This paper describes with the SAS design accordance with this new standard. After a brief introduction of IEC 61850 SCL, this paper addresses some issues related to the specification of an IEC 61850 based SAS, and describes the Substation Configuration Language (SCL) based on Extensible Markup Language (XML). The SAS design process is explored with examples including the Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) selection, Logical Nodes (LN) allocation and the related services and the SAS communication architecture.
Self-heating induced device degradation and its width/length (W/L) dimension dependence were studied in p-type polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin film transistors (TFTs). Negative channel conductance was observed under high power region of output curve, which was mainly caused by hole trapping into gate oxide and also by trap state generation by self-heating effect. Self-heating effect became aggravated as W/L ratio was increased, which was understood by the differences in heat dissipation capability. By reducing applied power density normalized to TFT area, self-heating induced degradation could be reduced.

We investigate the effect of rise time of a pulse bias voltage on atmospheric plasma generation. With the faster rise time of the pulse bias, the glow discharge appears to be more uniformly generated along the electrodes. I-V measurement confirms that higher loading power can be obtained using the faster rise time. A new understanding for atmospheric plasma generation at a micro-gap electrode is suggested.

In recent years, renewable energy sources have been mentioned as solution to environmental regulation and energy supply-demand. Energy storage systems are needed to mitigate the intermittent output characteristics of renewable energy sources and to operate micro grid efficiently using renewable energy generation systems. However, despite the necessity of energy storage system, this cannot secure the economical efficiency of the energy storage system by high initial cost. In this paper, a micro grid is constructed to supply electric power to industrial customers by using solar power generation system and energy storage system among renewable energy generation power sources and operated to improve energy independence. In the case study, we use photovoltaic system which is representative renewable energy generation system. Unlike conventional photovoltaic system, this system uses floating photovoltaic system with the advantage of having high output and no land area limitations. It is operated for the purpose of improving energy independence in the micro grid. In order to secure economical efficiency, the energy storage system operates a micro grid with a minimum capacity. Finally, this paper calculates the appropriate subsidy for the energy storage capacity.

Due to advances such as photovoltaic power generation and energy storage system, energy self-consumption smart home system in which energy management system is built and energy is generated in house has been actively researched. In particular, due to the instability of the grid after the Fukushima nuclear accident, home system in which generating electricity from photovoltaic, storing and using it in energy storage system was commercialized in Japan. While subsidizing renewable energy projects through a combination of solar and energy storage systems in North America and Europe has expanded home installation. In this paper, we describe development of self-consumption smart home system which is connecting photovoltaic system and energy storage system in home area network and operating it based on real-time price. We implemented automated self-consumption home in which optimizing the use of energy from the power grid with minimal user's intervention.

While member sections of concrete structures of nuclear power plant are big, water-cement ratio is small. Consequently, the huge amount of heat generation and high viscosity could be occurred. These might reduce constructibility of nuclear power plant. In order to obtain improved concrete mix proportion on nuclear power plant structures, the properties of normal concrete is compared with self-compacting concrete. In addition, various mixes of self-compacting concrete utilizing polycarboxylic acid based admixture is mutually compared and estimated.
