Purpose: This study aims to find the factors that affect the degree of self-care performance in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. Method: This study used a descriptive correlational design. The data were collected using a sample of 80 PD patients, from the university affiliated Parkinson Center in Busan. Pearson's correlations and multiple regression analyses were conducted using the SPSS 18.0. Results: The mean score of the self-care performance was 3.61 (${\pm}0.40$). The highest score observed of self-care performance subscale was medication subscale ($4.55{\pm}0.50$) and the lowest score was observed in the exercise subscale ($3.03{\pm}0.64$). The self-care performance had significant correlations with depression (r=-.32, p<.01), self-care knowledge (r=.28, p<.05), function of motion (r=.25, p<.05), ability of daily activity (r=.22, p<.05), self-efficacy (r=.24, p<.05), and support from medical staff (r=.24, p<.05). The significant predictors of self-care performance included depression (${\beta}=-.28$), status of employment (${\beta}=-.27$), self-care knowledge (${\beta}=-.21$), support from medical staff (${\beta}=-.28$), and educational level (${\beta}=-.28$), accounting for 34% of the variance in the self-care performance. Conclusion: Depression, self-care knowledge, medical support are significant predictors which affect the self-care performance with PD patients.
Purpose: This study was done to describe the correlation among the blue color worker's health-promoting behavior, occupational life-satisfaction and self-esteem. Method: The subjects consisted of 190 industrial workers employed in one electronics manufacturing plant in Gumi and were obtained by a convenience sample. Data were collected from October 6th to 17th, 2002 by structured questionnaires. The instruments for this study were Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile(47 items), Occupational Life-satisfaction Scale(20 items) and Self-esteem Scale(10 items). Frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test and Pearson's correlation coefficient with SAS program were used to analyze the data. Result: 1) The average item score for the health-promoting behavior was 3.01; the highest score on the subscale was self-actualization(M=3.39) with the lowest being exercise(M=2.37). 2) The average item score for the occupational life-satisfaction was 2.96. 3) The average item score for the self-esteem was 2.83. 4) Health-promoting behavior was significantly different according to educational level and age. 5) Occupational life satisfaction was significantly different according to age and religion. 6) Self-esteem was significantly different according to age. 7) Health-promoting behavior was positively related to occupational life-satisfaction and self-esteem. The occupational life-satisfaction was positively related to self-esteem. Conclusion : It follows from this study that there is a very correlation among the blue color worker's health-promoting behavior, occupational life-satisfaction and self-esteem. Therefore health promoting programs that increase occupational life- satisfaction and self-esteem should be developed to promote a healthy lifestyle of the blue color workers.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of participation of sports activities on job duties by analyzing job satisfaction of workers in rehabilitation hospital. From April to May 2015, 400 nurses, nursing assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and administrative staffs were selected from eight rehabilitation hospitals in Busan Metropolitan City. Analysis was performed by t-test, frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha analysis, one-way ANOVA and Duncan tests. correlation analysis and regression analysis were conducted to obtain the following conclusions. For the self-directed rehabilitation of upper extremity hemiplegia patients, in this paper we propose an interface method capable of doing bilateral exercises in rehabilitation robotics. This is a method for estimating information of movements from the unaffected-side, and projects it to the affected-side in order. That the affected-side is followed the movements of the unaffected-side. For estimation of the unaffected-side movements information, gyro sensor data and acceleration sensor data were fused. In order to improve the measurement error in data fusion, a HDR filter and a complementary filter were applied. Estimated motion information is derived the one side of the drive input of rehabilitation robot. In order to validate the proposed method, experimental equipment is designed to be similar to the body's joints. The verification was performed by comparing the estimation angle data from inertial sensors and the encoder data which were attached to the mechanism.

This study evaluated the effect of self thoracic mobilization exercise (STME) on shoulder pain, disability and shoulder function in patients with shoulder dysfunction. Thirty-two patients with shoulder dysfunction were randomly assigned to the STME group and the control group. The visual analog scale, shoulder dysfunction, and shoulder range of motion were evaluated before and after intervention. Sixteen STME intervention patients used a foam roller and quadripedal position flexion and extension. Sixteen controls received placebo effects using electrotherapy pads. The two groups performed 20 minutes for three times per week for four weeks. The STME group showed significant improvement in pain and dysfunction compared to that of the control group (p <0.05), and their range of motion of the shoulder was significantly improved in flextion, abduction, and external rotation compared to that of the placebo group (p <0.05). Therefore, STME is effective in resolving shoulder pain and dysfunction, and will be able to educate patients with shoulder pain in an easier approach and mediate social treatment costs.
Taegeuk is the source and union of the two primary aspects of the cosmos, Eum(陰, Yin) and Yang(陽). The Neo-Confucian philosophers of Chinese Song(宋) dynasty associated Taegeuk with the supreme rational principle of the universe. Taegeuk is a powerful blend of self-discipline, self-defense and healing. It is an art which has grown over the millennia to include hundreds of forms and variations, and can easily take a lifetime to master. Taegeukgwon based on the Taoist philosophies of Eum(陰, Yin) and Yang(陽) is an ancient Eastern form of exercises, characterized by slow reversing movements. There is strong research evidence validating Taegeuk as a safe form of exercise having potential for health promotion and rehabilitation. Today, Taegeukgwon has spread worldwide. The Internal Training of Taegeuk is one of the exercises for regiment. As exercise, Taegeukgwon is designed to provide relaxation in the process of body-conditioning exercise and is drawn from the principles of Taegeuk, notably including the harmonizing of the Eum-yang(陰陽, Yin-yang), respectively the passive and the active principles. It employs flowing, rhythmic, deliberate movements, with carefully individually prescribed stances and positions. In practice, two masters teach the system exactly alike. As a mode of attack and defense, Taegeukgwon resembles Kungfu and is properly considered a martial art. It may be used with or without weapons. Freehand exercise to promote health was practiced in Korea. This training proved to have effect on hypertension, enervation, impotence, premature ejaculation, seminal emission, chronic gastrointestinal diseases, and arteriosclerosis. There have been many schools of Taegeukgwon. Depending on school and master, the number of prescribed exercise forms varies from 24 to 108 or more. The objective of this paper is to reconsider Taegeukgwon and its effect on the body and mind-conditioning in Hwangjenaegyeong(黃帝內經).
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between heart rate (HR), self-awareness of exercise intensity (rating of perceived exertion, RPE), and 5-meter walk test (5MWT) of persons affected by stroke during backward walking according to the preferred stride frequency (PSF), PSF+3 and PSF+6 conditions. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: A total of 11 persons with stroke (9 males, 2 females) participated voluntarily. All patients underwent backward walking under the PSF, PSF+3, and PSF+6 conditions in underwater and ground environments, and each condition was performed for 5 minutes. The HR, RPE, and walking speeds were measured during walking, and the measured values from underwater and ground environments were compared. Results: The HR and RPE in the ground environment were significantly increased (p<0.05), and although the 5MWT showed an increase in speed, it was not significant. The HR and RPE in the underwater environment were also significantly increased (p<0.05), however, although the 5MWT results was increased, it was not significant. The HR and RPE were significantly increased in the PSF+6 condition (p<0.05). Conclusions: The results of this study showed that backward gait training underwater can provide an appropriate exercise intensity for stroke survivors and suggests that exercises performed in an underwater environment is more effective compared to the ground environment.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of combined cervical stabilization exercise (CSE) and stretching exercise (SE) on office workers with forward head posture (FHP). Methods : A total of 32 office workers with forward head posture were randomly assigned to experimental (n=16) and control (n=16) groups. The experimental group underwent combined CSE and SE, and the control group underwent cervical self-myofascial release and SE. Both groups performed exercises for 40 min per day, thrice per week for a total of 6 weeks. Craniovertebral angle (CVA), respiration, disability, and joint range of motion (ROM) before and 6 weeks after intervention were measured and compared. Results : There was no significant between-group difference in the general characteristics (p>.05). The intra-group comparison showed significant differences in the visual analog scale (VAS) and neck disability index (NDI) of both groups post-intervention (p<.05). CVA and forced expiratory volume in 1 seconds (FEV1) were significantly improved post-intervention in the experimental group only (p<.05). In the experimental group, all ROM variables were significantly improved post-intervention. In contrast, in the control group, all ROM variables improved significantly post-intervention, except for extension (p<.05). The inter-group comparison showed significant differences in NDI, left lateral flexion, right lateral flexion, and left rotation between the two groups (p<.05). Conclusion : The combination of CSE and SE, which stabilizes the cervical spine, had positive effects on cranial rotation angle, respiration, disability, and joint ROM in office workers with forward head posture. Therefore, the combination of the two exercises may be an effective option to reduce symptoms and prevent postural problems in office workers with FHP.
Stroke is one of the leading causes of death in Korea. Because of their sequelae, strokes are categorized as a sudden-onset, constant course chronic illness which needs continuous efforts for rehabilitation. Unfortunately, there are few community based rehabilitation program for post-stroke patients who stay at home. The authors developed a community based selp-help management program for post-stroke patients to enhance their rehabilitation process. The program consists of five sessions and each session contains health education. ROM exercise, ADL training, and stress management like foot reflexology. A professor and two graduate students of nursing college coordinated the program. To test the effects of the program we conducted a 5 week program to the 10 conveniently selected post-stroke patients who were living in Kang-buk district of Seoul. The Questionnaires about ADLs, IADLs, depression and life satisfaction were asked to the all subjects before and after program. The hand grisp power and muscle strength of four limbs were measured at the end of each sessions. The analysis of data revealed that the program was effective to increase the ADLs, IADLs, and muscle strength and to decrease the depression levels of subjects. However, there was no significant difference between pre and post hand grisp power and life satisfaction. Because the program was effective to Improve the physical and psycholocial function of subjects, we suggest continual development and Implementation of community based self-help management programs.
