  • Synthesis of the NiTi shape memory alloy using the thermal explosion mode of the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis has been investigated. The significant fractions of intermetallics phases were found to form at the Ti/Ni powder interface during the heating to the ignition temperature and seemed to influence the relative fraction of phases in the final products. As the heating rate to the ignition temperature was increased, the combustion temperature and the fraction of NiTi in the final reaction products were increased. The synthesis reaction under 70 MPa compressive pressure yielded a reaction product with 98% theoretical density.

  • Numerical simulations and experiments are performed to investigate the flame development inside tubes with different diameters at the same burst pressure. It is shown that generation of a stable flame play a role in self-ignition. In the smaller tube, multi-dimensional shock interaction is occurred near the diaphragm. After flame of a cross-section is developed, stable flame remains for a moment then it grows having enough energy to overcome the sudden release at the exit. Whereas shock interaction generate complex flow further downstream for a larger tube, it results in stretched flame. This dispersed flame has lower average temperature which makes it easily extinguished.

  • A propellant mainly consisting of nitric ester including nitrocellulose, nitroglycerine and nitroguanidine is characteristic of being decomposed naturally. And this phenomenon is known as being affected mostly by its storing temperature. In this research, the effect of storing temperature on self life has been studied by measuring the contained quantity of residual stabilizer of propellant KM30A1, ignition powder and combustible cartridge case, which are parts of 155MM propelling charge K676 and K677; the method for the measurement is acceleration aging test, and decomposition reaction equation and Berthlot Equation were used for the calculation. The result of this research shows that propellant KM30A1, ignition powder, combustible cartridge case in order of decreasing self life, and the self life decreases to 1/3 as the temperature increases by $10^{\circ}C$.

  • Numerical simulations are conducted to investigate the mechanism of spontaneous ignition of hydrogen within a certain length of downstream pipe released by the failure of pressure boundaries of various geometric assumption. The results show that local ignition is developed in limited area such as boundary layer and the mixing of hydrogen and air is weak at the planar pressure boundary conditions, whereas the flame fronts at the contact region are developed at the pressure boundaries of the spherical shape.

  • In this paper, the ignition trans used in the gas boiler was produced to measure current, power factor, and power consumption. As a result of measuring the power factor, the self-made ignition trans was higher than that of foreign products and the power consumption was lower. The ignition gap was fixed to 2 m, and when the ignition rod length was 30cm, 500cm, and 1000cm, it was measured as 3.45A, 14.5A, and 16.2A. When the ignition gap was fixed to 4mm and the ignition rod length was 30cm, 500cm, and 1000cm, it was measured as 2.8A, 10.1A, and 13.2A. When the ignition gap was fixed at 6mm and the ignition rod length was 30cm, 500cm, and 1000cm, it was measured as 2.73A, 10.2A, and 32.6A. When the ignition gap was fixed at 8 mm and the ignition rod length was 30 cm, 500cm, and 1000cm, it was measured as 3.13A, 9.37A, and 21.4. The ignition gap was fixed at 10 mm, and when the ignition rod length was 30cm, it was measured as 3.4A, 14.4 A, and 25.6A. In conclusion, as the length of the ignition rod increased, the current also increased.

  • Hydrogen engine with homogeneous charged compression ignition can achieve high efficiency by high compression ratio and rapid chemical reaction rates spatially. However, it needs to expansion of the operation range with over-all load conditions which is very narrow due to extremely high pressure rise rate. The adoption of the lean boosting in a HCCI $H_2$ engine is expected to be effective in expansion of operation range since minimum compression ratio for spontaneous ignition is decreased by low temperature combustion and increased surround in-cylinder pressure. In order to grasp its possibility by using lean boosting in the HCCI $H_2$ engine, compression ratio required for spontaneous ignition, expansion degree of the operation range and over-all engine performance are experimentally analyzed with the boosting pressure and supply energy. As the results, it is found that minimum compression ratio for spontaneous ignition is down to the compression ratio(${\varepsilon}$=19) of conventional diesel engine due to decreased self-ignition temperature, and operation range is extended to 170% in term of the equivalence ratio and 12 times in term of the supply energy than that of naturally aspirated type. Though indicated thermal efficiency is decreased by reduced compression ratio, it is over at least 46%.

  • Gasoline engine have proved its utility in light, medium and heavy duty vehicle in every sector of the world community. The concern about long term availability of petroleum and the increasing threat for the environment by the increasing load of vehicular emission, compel the technology to upgrade itself for meeting the challenges. CNG is environmentally clean alternative to the existing SI Engines with out much change in the hardware. Many researchers have found this as a potential substitute to meet the energy requirement. Higher octane number and higher self ignition temperature make it a good gaseous fuel. Although power output is slightly lesser than the gasoline it's thermal efficiency is better than the gasoline for the same SI Engine. Results showed that reduced CO, hydrocarbon emissions is a favorable outcome, with slight increase in $NO_x$ emission when compared with gasoline fuel to dual fuel mode in the existing SI Engines.

  • Gasoline engines have proven their utility in light, medium and heavy duty vehicles. Concern about long term availability of petroleum and the environment norms by the increased vehicular emission have mandated the search for safe fuel. CNG is an environmentally clean alternative to the existing spark ignition engines with the advantages of minimum change. A higher octane number and a higher self ignition temperature make it an attractive gaseous fuel. The thermal efficiency is better than gasoline for the same engine. The reduced carbon mono oxide, carbon di-oxide, hydrocarbon emissions is a favorable outcome along with a slight increase in $NO_x$ emission when compared with gasoline fuel to a dual fuel mode in the existing spark ignition engines. The result from the experiment shows that CNG could be a potential substitute fuel that maintains performance and emissions characteristics in gasoline engines.

  • Bi-fuel system in a spark ignition engine (SIE) is a rising phenomena in today's automobile technology. In a gasoline driven vehicle, alternatively adoption of compressed natural gas (CNG) could be used as a potential substitute to meet the energy requirement and this is possible by some minor changes in the hardware of the existing engine. Gasoline engine is widely used in the passenger cars, light, medium and heavy duty vehicles but the consumption status of the petroleum is decreasing worldwide and at the same time environmental pollution from automobiles is seriously establishes as a threat for every nation in respect to global warming and climate changes. Now-a-days most vehicles operate using CNG for its popularity stems, clean burning properties and cost effective solution compared to other alternative fuels. It refers as a good gaseous fuel because of its high octane number and self ignition temperature. Though the power output is slightly lesser than the gasoline fuel; its thermal efficiency is better than the gasoline for the same SIE. The research paper highlights the reduction of CO, reasonable outcomes of HC emissions with minor increase in $NO_x$ emissions compared with the gasoline fuel to bi-fuel mode in the SIE that meets the emission challenges.
