  • Microelectromechanical system switches are becoming more and more popular in the electronics industry; there is a need for careful selection of the materials in the design and fabrication of switches for reliability and performance issues. The membrane used for actuation to change the state of an RF switch is made mostly using gold or aluminum. Various designs of membranes have been proposed. Due to the flexure-type structures, the design complexity increases, which makes stress analysis mandatory to validate the reliability and performance of a switch. In this paper, the effective stress and actuation voltage required for different types of fixed-fixed membranes is analyzed using finite element modeling. Effective measures are presented to reduce the stress and voltage.

  • In this paper, an NxN input-buffered crosspoint packet switch which selects a Head of the Line, HOL, packet in contention randomly is analyzed with a new approach. The approach is based on both a Markov chain representation of the input buffer and the probability that a HOL packet is successfully served. The probability as a function of N is derived, and it makes it possible to express the average packet delay and the average number of packets in the buffer as a function of N. The contention resolution policy based on the occupancy of the input buffer is also presented and analyzed with this same approach and the relationship between two selection policies is analyzed in terms of the occupancy of the input buffer.

  • In this paper, we present a technique for obtaining conflict-free schedules for real-time automation protocol for industrial Ethernet (RAPIEnet) switches. Mathematical model of the switch is obtained using graph theory. Initially network traffic entry and exit parts in a single RAPIEnet switch are identified, so that a bipartite conflict graph can be constructed. The obtained conflict graph is transformed to three kinds of matrices to be used as inputs for our simulation model, and selection of any of the matrix forms is application-specific. A greedy edge-coloring algorithm is used to schedule the network traffic and to solve the minimum coloring problem. After scheduling, empty slots are identified for forwarding the non real-time traffic of asynchronous devices. Finally, an algorithm for synchronizing the schedules of adjacent switches is proposed using edge-contraction and minors. All simulations were carried out using Matlab.

  • Autonomous driving of unmanned aerial vehicles may have to pay expensive cost to create and switch new routes if unexpected obstacles exist or local map updates occured by the control system due to incorrect route information. Integrating digital twins into the path-following process requires more computing resources to quickly switch the wrong path to an alternative path, but it can quickly update the path during flight. In this study, we design a DEVS-based simulation environment which can modify optimized paths through short-term simulation of multi-virtual UAVs for applying digital twin concepts to path follow. Through simulation, we confirmed the possibility of increasing the mission stability of UAV.

  • This paper presents an output arbitrator for input buffering ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) switches using neural networks. To avoid blocking in ATM switches with blocking characteristics, it is required to buffer ATM cells in input buffer and to schedule them. The N$\times$N request matrix is divided into N/16 submatrices in order to get rid of internal blocking systematically in scheduling phase. The submatrices are grouped into N/4 groups, and the cells in each group are switched alternatively. As the window size of input buffer is increases, the number of input cells switched in a time slot approaches to N. The selection of nonblocking cells to be switched is done by neural network modules. N/4 neural network modules are operated simultaneously. Fast selection can be achieved by massive parallelism of neural networks. The neural networks have 4N neurons and 14N connection. The proposed method is implemented in C language, and the simulation result confirms the feasibility of this method.

  • The switching-mode power converter has been widely used because of its features of high efficiency and small weight and size. In the switching-mode power converter, the output voltage is generally controlled by varying the duty ratio of main switch. When a converter operates in steady state, duty ratio of the converter is kept constant. So the power of switching noise is concentrated in specific frequencies. The more white noise is injected, the more conducted EMI is reduced. But output-voltage is not sufficiently regulated. This is the reason why carrier frequency selection topology is proposed. In the case of carrier frequency selection, output-voltage of steady state and transient state is fully regulated. Spectrum analysis is performed on the Phase current and the CM noise voltage. The former is measured with Current Probe and the latter is achieved with LISN, which are connected to the spectrum analyzer respectively.

  • Recently, ultra-low latency flash storage devices such as Z-SSD and Optane SSD were introduced with the significant technological improvement in the storage devices which provide much faster response time than today's other NVMe SSDs. With such ultra-low latency, $10{\mu}s$, storage devices the cost of context switch could be an overhead during interrupt-driven I/O completion process. As an interrupt-driven I/O completion process could bring an interrupt handling overhead, polling or hybrid-polling for the I/O completion is known to perform better. In this paper, we analyze tail latency problem in a polling process caused by process scheduling in data center environment where multiple applications run simultaneously under one system and we introduce our adaptive polling selection technique which dynamically selects efficient processing method between two techniques according to the system's conditions.

  • Internet of Things (IoT) connects several objects with embedded sensors and they are capable of exchanging information between devices to create a smart environment. IoT smart devices have limited resources, such as batteries, computing power, and bandwidth, but comprehensive sensing causes severe energy restrictions, lowering data quality. The main objective of the proposal is to build a hybrid protocol which provides high data quality and reduced energy consumption in IoT sensor network. The hybrid protocol gives a flexible and complete solution for sensor selection problem. It selects a subset of active sensor nodes in the network which will increase the data quality and optimize the energy consumption. Since the unused sensor nodes switch off during the sensing phase, the energy consumption is greatly reduced. The hybrid protocol uses Dijkstra's algorithm for determining the shortest path for sensing data and Ant colony inspired variable path selection algorithm for selecting active nodes in the network. The missing data due to inactive sensor nodes is reconstructed using enhanced belief propagation algorithm. The proposed hybrid method is evaluated using real sensor data and the demonstrated results show significant improvement in energy consumption, data utility and data reconstruction rate compared to other existing methods.

  • The switching-mode power converter has been widely used because of its features of high efficiency and small weight and size. These features are brought by the ON-OFF operation of semiconductor switching devices. However, this switching operation causes the surge and EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) which deteriorate the reliability of the converter themselves and entire electronic systems. This problem on the surge and noise is one of the most serious difficulties in AC-to-DC converter. In the switching-mode power converter, the output voltage is generally controlled by varying the duty ratio of main switch. When a converter operates in steady state, duty ratio of the converter is kept constant. So the power of switching noise is concentrated in specific frequencies. Generally, to reduce the EMI and improve the immunity of converter system, the switching frequency of converter needs to be properly modulated during a rectified line period instead of being kept constant. Random Pulse Width Modulation (RPWM) is performed by adding a random perturbation to switching instant while output-voltage regulation of converter is performed. RPWM method for reducing conducted EMI in single switch three phase discontinuous conduction mode boost converter is presented. The more white noise is injected, the more conducted EMI is reduced. But output-voltage is not sufficiently regulated. This is the reason why carrier frequency selection topology is proposed. In the case of carrier frequency selection, output-voltage of steady state and transient state is fully regulated. A RPWM control method was proposed in order to smooth the switching noise spectrum and reduce it's level. Experimental results are verified by converter operating at 300V/1kW with 5%~30% white noise input. Spectrum analysis is performed on the Phase current and the CM noise voltage. The former is measured with Current Probe and the latter is achieved with LISN, which are connected to the spectrum analyzer respectively.
